Patent number: 4969695Abstract: In an apparatus for detecting the abnormality of a rotational speed sensor adapted for, for example, an anti-skid control system, a time period within which a subsequent pulse will be generated by the rotational speed sensor in response to the rotation of a body of revolution such as wheel is estimated on the basis of the latest pulse interval of the pulses previously generated therefrom and a value corresponding to the force of inertia of the wheel developed on the braking operation thereof. The determination of abnormality of the rotational speed sensor is made when the subsequent pulse is not produced within the estimated time period. This is arranged based on the fact that the pulse interval depends upon the inertial force of the wheel. With the above arrangement, the abnormality detection of the speed sensor can be quickly made, so that a fail-safe control in a braking system can be speedily performed in response to the occurrence of abnormality of the speed sensor.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1988Date of Patent: November 13, 1990Assignees: Nippondenso Co., Ltd., Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Hiromi Maehata, Yutaka Okuda, Syouichi Masaki, Satoshi Hirano, Ken Asami, Kazunori Sakai

Patent number: 4965558Abstract: An image retrieval system and method are provided for retrieving and displaying images of the plurality of images stored in the system. Images are grouped into collections of images, or documents. Representative images indicative of the representative images include representations of third, orthogonal or depth dimensions indicative of the number of images in the image groups. With a position indicating device, the user selects for display an image from an image group by indicating a position along the depth dimension of the representative image at a location corresponding to the relative location of the image in the image group. The image then is retrieved and displayed. Once the image is displayed, means are provided for sequential retrieval and display of images, forwards or backwards, through the images in the selected image group.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1987Date of Patent: October 23, 1990Assignees: Interand Corporation, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp.Inventors: Yosinori Saki, Hiroshi Kotera, Kazuo Unemoto, Tomohiko Arikawa, Wayne Jung, Timothy Tutt, Mike Dunk

Patent number: 4963859Abstract: Where a signature is to be automatically verified, or data is to be entered into a computer, a special pen is usually employed but this pen is liable to be stolen or vandalized. In the present invention the tip of an ordinary pen presses lined paper on to a transparent plate and modifies internal reflection in the plate at the point of contact. A light source edge-illuminates the plate and light received by a receiver at another edge of the plate varies in intensity as the pen tip crosses the lines. By measuring the intervals between crossing line boundaries information is obtained which can be analyzed for use in signature verification and data entry.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1988Date of Patent: October 16, 1990Assignee: National Research Development CorporationInventor: John R. Patent number: 4957329Abstract: An anti-skid brake control system detects wheel acceleration greater than a predetermined value. The predetermined value is set greater than an acceleration threshold which is used for switching operational mode from braking pressure decreasing mode (RELEASE mode) to decreased pressure hold mode (HOLD mode). When the wheel acceleration greater than the predetermined value is detected, the control system provide a delay time for projecting an estimated vehicle speed which is derived on the basis of wheel speed at which a predetermined wheel deceleration is obtained, which estimated vehicle speed is used for deriving a target wheel speed and defines a switching criteria for switching operational mode from braking pressure holding mode for holding brake pressure at decreased level to braking pressure application mode (APPLICATION mode) to increase the braking pressure.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1988Date of Patent: September 18, 1990Assignee: Nissan Motor Company, LimitedInventor: Toshiro Matsuda
