  • Patent number: 7780425
Abstract: A piston compressor contains at least one cylinder (2), inside of which a reciprocating piston (4) forms two working chambers (10, 12) disposed on opposing sides of the piston, which each have at least one inlet and one outlet opening, in which a respective inlet valve (20, 22) or an outlet valve (24, 26) operates. A housing (32) surrounds the cylinder, and has a suction port (34) and an exhaust port (36). A space between the cylinder and the housing is divided by a separating wall (28, 30) in such a way as to connect the suction port with the inlet openings and the exhaust port with the outlet openings. A driving arrangement (42, 44) reciprocally moves the piston. The inlet valve of one working chamber opens and the inlet valve of the other working chamber closes for each stroke of the piston, and the outlet valve of the one working chamber closes, while the outlet valve of the other working chamber opens.

  • Patent number: 7690900
Abstract: A fluid pressurization unit compresses a fluid in response to natural wave action on a body of water such as an ocean. The unit comprises a floating component and a piston assembly. The floating component has sufficient buoyancy to float on water waves and has a compression chamber with an inlet valve biased to receive a fluid at an intake pressure. The piston assembly is slidable within the compression chamber and has a piston shaft and a hollow piston head attached to the piston shaft, which defines a piston reservoir therein with an inlet valve in communication with the compression chamber and biased to receive the fluid at an output pressure, and an outlet for discharging fluid pressurized to at least the output pressure from the pressurization unit. The piston assembly is fixable in place relative to the floating component such that relative movement between the floating component and piston assembly compresses fluid from the intake pressure to at least the output pressure.

  • Patent number: 7645124
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for estimating and/or precluding stick-slip, or other oscillatory or resonant behavior, through use of a virtual transducer, which precludes the need for having sensors located adjacent to a driven element of the system, or adjacent contact surfaces at which the stick-slip relative motion may occur. Parameters measurable at a drive mechanism are utilized for controlling a system in a manner which precludes stick-slip, or other oscillatory or resonant behavior, of the driven element. Relative motion between contacting surfaces in the driven element, prone to stick-slip behavior, is controlled such that, after sufficient force is applied by the drive element to overcome static friction forces between the contacting surfaces and break them free from one another, relative motion between the surfaces is maintained at a high enough relative speed that the surfaces are precluded from statically contacting one another, so that stick-slip behavior is precluded.

  • Patent number: 7641453
Abstract: A pulsation reducing apparatus is used for an apparatus having a pump for circulating a liquid in a circulating line and a tank for storing the liquid circulating via the pump. The pulsation reducing apparatus includes a supplement tank for reserving the liquid such that a liquid surface height of the supplement tank is higher than that of the tank. The tank is connected to the supplement tank and the empty space portion of the tank is connected to the supplement tank via a gas exhaust line. When the empty space portion of the tank communicates with that of the supplement tank via the gas exhaust line due to a reduction of the liquid in the tank, the gas in the tank is exhausted to the empty space portion of the supplement tank via the gas exhaust line and the liquid in the supplement tank is supplemented into the tank.

  • Patent number: 7618243
Abstract: A free-piston linear compressor (1) controlled to achieve high volumetric efficiency by a controller including an algorithm (116) for ramping up input power until piston-cylinder head collisions are detected using a detection algorithm (117/118) which then decrements power input whereupon input power is again ramped up by algorithm (116). Non-damaging low energy collisions are achieved by the controller including a perturbation algorithm (119) which perturbates the input power ramp with periodic transient pulses of power to ensure piston collisions are provoked during the transient power pulses.

  • Patent number: 7559753
Abstract: A double disc pump includes a stationary main pump housing block that can remain fixed to its supporting frame while all other parts of the pump are removed for servicing. This permits disassembly of the pump without disconnecting the inlet or outlet plumbing and is provided by a pump housing which is vertically divided along parallel horizontal planes into housing segments. An intermediate housing segment is hingedly mounted to the main block segment. A bottom housing segment is hingedly mounted to the intermediate housing segment. These three segments capture all of the internal parts of the pump including the suction and discharge discs and the trunnion seals. The hinged design of the segments allows them to conveniently swing away from other parts of the housing so that access to the internal structures can be accomplished without completely removing each segment.

  • Patent number: 7527483
Abstract: An expansible chamber pneumatic system, for example a fluid pump system, includes two or more double-acting diaphragm pumps, each with symmetrical left and right pump housings, each housing including an air chamber and a fluid chamber separated by a movable diaphragm. The diaphragms are connected for reciprocating movement in unison to pump fluid through their respective fluid chambers. Each pump includes an air valve actuated by Control air to direct Process air into one of the air chambers, simultaneously releasing used Process air from the other air chamber to thereby move the diaphragms, thereby to pump fluid. A pilot valve directs Control air to the air valve to position the air valve. The pilot valve is responsive to diaphragms reaching their travel limit in one direction to direct Control air to reverse the directions of Process air flow through the air valve to thereby reverse the movement of the pump diaphragms. Control air exhausts through the pilot valve to atmosphere.
