Abstract: Bookmark services are provided in which user-selected bookmarks to favorite web pages are stored. In response to receiving a request for a web page from a particular user, the website operator may make a call to the bookmark service to obtain bookmarks that were previously selected by that user. The bookmark service forwards the bookmarks for the user to the website operator, and the website operator includes these bookmarks within the web page that is rendered to the user. Since the bookmarks are stored remotely at a bookmark service, the bookmarks may be available to the user regardless of the electronic device or web browser that is used to request a web page. The bookmarks that are rendered on the web page may also include recommended bookmarks to web pages that are deemed as possibly being of interest to a particular user.

Abstract: Collaborative generation of digital content with interactive reports is enabled. An editor selects a layout and assigns story blocks to authors. Story blocks include a textual component and an interactive report component. In one embodiment, the interactive report includes static data captured at authorship time. In another embodiment, the interactive report includes live data updated at read time. After an author creates a story block, it is submitted to the editor for review and approval. The editor may send the story block back to the author for subsequent editing prior to approval. Once the editor approves all of the content from all of the authors, the editor can publish the content. The resulting content is published as an interactive report or magazine, enabling readers to see not just the story content of the publication, but to interact with the reports and underlying data.

Abstract: An apparatus includes a processing unit configured to determine, using a control application, a type of schema of a selected link. When the schema is of a first type, the control application causes processing associated with the selected link to be performed by a content display module. When the schema is of a second type, the control application causes processing associated with the selected link to be performed by a module different from the content display module. The processing unit can be configured to run an operating system, a control application, and a content display module, such that the control application is interposed between the operating system and the content display module. The control application can determine a type of schema of a selected link.

Abstract: There are provided methods and systems for providing viewers of a digital image with information about identifiable and scenes within the image. In an embodiment, digital images, uploaded to a host website, are customized through the incorporation of some number of selectable informational links and other text based information to provide viewers of the image real-time access to social and advertising related information regarding certain identifiable objects and scenes in the image. The selectable information links are incorporated within and around the digital image in a process referred to herein as image tagging.

Abstract: User-profile systems and methods that allow the users of imaging devices to create, store and retrieve user profiles that allow users to readily set operating parameters of the imaging devices. Such user profiles are useful, for example, in situations where a user encounters differing imaging scenarios having differing preferred operating-parameter settings. The user can change the operating parameter settings to the desired settings by selecting the user profile corresponding to the imaging scenario at hand. In one embodiment, the imaging device displays a user-profile-access list to the user from which the user can select a desired one of the user profiles.

Abstract: Method for transformation between a discussion document and an online discussion forum including: dividing the discussion document into several portions, according to original headings contained in the discussion document and for each of the plurality of portions, creating a sub-forum of the online discussion forum, in a forum database, the description of which being a text of a respective heading; creating a topic for each paragraph and sub-heading of lower hierarchy; inserting a text of each paragraph into a discussion database, formatted according to rules of the online discussion forum; modifying the online discussion forum via a discussion forum software; creating a new version of the discussion document including the original headings; parsing the adapted online discussion forum starting with a first sub-forum; inserting titles of lower level sub-forums in the new version of the discussion document as sub-headings; and outputs the new version of the discussion document.

Abstract: An electronic book system is configured to allow a user to read a primary portion of an electronic book, then switch to reading a secondary portion of the book, the secondary portion being presented based on a current reading position for the main portion. A reader can repeatedly switch back and forth between primary and secondary portions without losing track of the reader's progress through the book. As an example, a reader in a textbook can immediately switch to a problem set corresponding to the reader's current position in the textbook.

Abstract: A method of editing a document includes receiving data associated with the document, the data including mark-up language data. The received data is processed to render at least part of the document for display in a first display area, and the at least part of the document is displayed as rendered in the first display area. Editing data is received and is processed, thereby editing the at least part of the document displayed in the second display area, and the editing is applied to the at least part of the document displayed in the first display area.

Abstract: In one example embodiment, a system and method is shown that includes identifying a host setting related to a property of a document data structure and a property of a fragment data structure, the document data structure reflecting an organization of a document, and the fragment data structure reflecting an organization of a portion of the document. Additionally, the system and method may include overriding the property of the fragment data structure using the property of the document data structure, if the host setting includes a command that the property of the fragment data structure is to be overridden by the property of the document data structure.

Abstract: One or more techniques and/or systems are provided for displaying a first portion of a markup language document on a first device and displaying a second portion of the markup language document on a second device for interaction with the first portion (e.g., allowing a smart phone to control a video playing on a separate monitor). A markup language document can be created by a developer, where first and second portions of the document are delineated by a remote device tag. The remote device tag can be used to instruct a first device parsing the document to send the second portion to a second (e.g., remote) device. The first portion of the document can be rendered by the first device, and displayed on a display coupled with the first device; and a rendered version of the second portion can be displayed by a display coupled with second device.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a search tool that allows users to efficiently retrieve or locate a desired object on their computer. Users specify their search based on a time criteria. In addition, the search tool may provide its results in a temporal context to assist the user in browsing through the results.

Abstract: According to an embodiment, an application comprises a sharing mechanism that allows a user to 1) quickly generate an image of information from a document, such as a screenshot of information displayed in a graphical user interface; 2) concurrently generate a link to the document, and 3) simultaneously paste the image with the associated link in another application. The image and link are generated in response to a single user input, such as a click on a “one-click sharing button.” The image and link are placed in a buffer, such as a clipboard, in such a manner that both may be retrieved via a single paste operation. Once pasted in another document, the image with the associated link may be shared with other users via email or any other suitable means. Techniques for pre-cropping and pre-annotating generated screenshots are also described.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method and system for providing an HTML-based application capable of controlling web actions and clients. The system includes an HTML skin-generating module to generate an HTML skin that includes instructions corresponding to business logic, and a script to control a skin according to the business logic. The system also includes an application drive file-generating module to generate an application drive file to interoperate with the HTML skin to execute the business logic.

Abstract: Various embodiments of systems and methods for automatically generating a layout plan are described herein. The method involves invoking original layout information for digital report elements rendered on an original layout region. The optimized layout plan for rendering the digital report elements on a target layout region is generated by: classifying the digital report elements into multiple arrays of digital report elements, deriving origin values for the digital report elements as a quotient of original dimensions of the digital report elements in the corresponding array, determining dimension quotient for the digital report elements based on the derived origin values for the digital report elements in the corresponding array, and determining target layout values as a function of the derived origin values and dimension quotient. The digital report elements are rendered on the target layout region based on the optimized layout plan defined by the target layout values.
