  • Patent number: 6070680
Abstract: A control system for a hybrid vehicle including a traction motor with a regenerative braking function. In order to increase the efficiency of regeneration, engine brake during regenerative braking is reduced by lowering the rotational speed of the engine below the lowest rotational speed value of the conventional control system. The control system can avoid engine stall during sudden, rapid deceleration which may occur during regenerative braking. Rapid deceleration of the vehicle is detected based on operating conditions of the vehicle. The traction motor has an assisting function where the traction motor drives the engine to help prevent a stall. The assisting function is carried out by controlling torque output from the traction motor to a predetermined positive value upon detection of the quick deceleration of the vehicle. The predetermined positive value is preset according to the operating characteristics of the vehicle's clutch.

  • Patent number: 6039347
Abstract: An airbag inflator includes a pair of telescoping pistons slidingly mounted within a housing. Pressurization of a combustion chamber by a pyrotechnic initiator acts on one piston to pressurize a hydraulic fluid chamber, which, in turn, acts on the other piston to pressurize a liquid propellant reservoir. Liquid propellant can then be regeneratively pumped from the reservoir into the combustion chamber for combustion to generate an airbag inflation gas. A hydraulic fluid damping chamber is utilized to exert a controllable retarding force on the one piston, such as to control the rate of airbag inflation gas generation.

  • Patent number: 6036226
Abstract: In an occupant restraint apparatus for installation in a vehicle, a smart airbag inflator is provided with a piston for regeneratively pumping liquid propellant from a reservoir into a combustion chamber for ignition and combustion to generate airbag inflation gases. To control the airbag inflation rate, the piston includes a piston head slidingly received in a damping chamber filled with a magneto-rheological fluid that is pumped through an orifice during the regenerative pumping stroke of the piston. An electromagnet is selectively energized to produce a varying magnetic field to adjust the viscosity of the magneto-rheological fluid flowing through the orifice and thus vary a damping force exerted on the piston stroke, thereby modulating the rate of liquid propellant combustion. Electromagnet current excitation is controlled in response to a particular accident scenario.

  • Patent number: 6035959
Abstract: A power assisted, vacuum actuated steering system with a rotary valve and vacuum actuators. The rotary valve has two identical discs which each include grooves and channels for communicating the vacuum pressure to the vacuum actuators. • Patent number: 6033043
Abstract: This invention is to suppress repeated striking noises as generated by a crawler belt (29) when taken up onto a drive sprocket (25) in a polygonally bent shape. A crawler belt support block (34) is fixedly mounted on top of an upper reinforcing plate (19) of a bracket (15) on the side of the drive sprocket. The crawler belt support block (34) includes a skid block (36) with a crawler belt sliding surface (36B) to be held in sliding contact with lower surfaces of respective links (30) of the crawler belt (29) to guide same in a direction tangential of the drive sprocket (25) when the crawler belt (29) is taken up onto the drive sprocket (25). The crawler belt support block suppresses vertical movements as would occur to the crawler belt (29) when taken up onto the drive sprocket (25) in a polygonally bent shape, to reduce the repeated striking noises generated by meshing engagement of bushes (32) of the crawler belt (29) and the drive sprocket (25).

  • Patent number: 6010154
Abstract: This is a device for use in operating a trailer landing gear drive mechanism. The device comprises: an elongated, rigid, cylindrical body having a closed end portion which is coupleable to a rotatable drive shaft of a drive means, and an open end portion which is adapted to releasably grip the end of a crank shaft of a mechanical landing gear drive mechanism. When the drive shaft of the drive means rotates, the device rotates, causing the crank shaft of the mechanical landing gear drive mechanism to rotate, thus effecting the raising or lowering of one or more landing gear legs of a vehicle trailer. The open end of the device comprises at least one slot, which is adapted to releasably grip the end of the crank shaft. There are preferably two identical "T" shaped slots on the open end portion so that the drive speed of the landing gear drive mechanism can be selected. The closed end of the device preferably has a threaded hole which is coupleable to the rotatable drive means.

  • Patent number: 5984353
Abstract: The quick-release arrangement includes a coupler adapted to slidably engage a braked upper drive shaft and to slidably engage a lower drive shaft. The lower drive shaft is coupled to an associated jack leg such that when the upper drive shaft, the coupler, and the lower drive shaft are coupled together, the jack leg is braked. A spring urges the coupler into engagement with the lower drive shaft. A cam member supports the downwardly-biased coupler and permits the coupler to be cammed upward against the spring bias force such that the coupler slides along the upper drive shaft and, thus, out of engagement with the lower drive shaft. When it is desired to release the jack leg from the braking control of the upper drive shaft to thereby permit rapid lowering of the jack leg to the ground, a cam lever is used to easily overcome the spring bias force and effect camming. Inadvertent camming is prevented because the spring bias force is not overcome by normal vibration, jolting or jarring.
