  • Patent number: 9485185
Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method for reducing the transmission of connection validating control signals when they are not needed. Network entities transmit connection validating control signals over network connections at regular intervals to validate that the network connections and the network entities remain functional. The method monitors data traffic fluctuations on the network connections to determine when connection validating control signals may not be needed. The method reduces unnecessary connection validating control signals in order to optimize the usage of network resources.

  • Patent number: 9467371
Abstract: A method includes operating a communication system (20) that includes a wireless access point (AP—24) and multiple wireless stations (STAs—28), including at least a first STA that is connected to a first endpoint (36) and a second STA that is connected to a second endpoint (36). A communication packet is transferred from the first endpoint to the second endpoint by transmitting the packet from the first STA to the second STA, not via the AP, using an addressing scheme that specifies in the packet respective layer-2 addresses of the first and second STAs but not of the first and second endpoints. In the second STA, the layer-2 address of the second endpoint is resolved, the resolved layer-2 address is inserted into the packet and the packet is forwarded to the second endpoint using the inserted layer-2 address.

  • Patent number: 9467933
Abstract: A device and method for active scanning are disclosed. The active scanning method in a wireless LAN can comprise the steps of: allowing an AP to receive a probe request frame containing an the AP identifier; determining whether the AP is a target AP or a non-target AP on the basis of the AP identifier; and performing back-off for the transmission of a probe response frame from a second interval after a first interval is terminated in a minimum channel interval when the AP is a non-target AP. Therefore, the present invention can prevent probe response frames from flooding a STA in a short period of time by distributing intervals in which probe response frames are received to the STA. In addition, the time used by the STA to perform active scanning can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 9413479
Abstract: In one embodiment, the locations of a plurality of network devices in a low power and lossy network (LLN) are determined along an intelligent wire. One or more neighboring devices for each network device in the plurality are identified based on the locations of the network devices along the intelligent wire. A communication schedule for the network devices is determined that prevents neighboring devices along the intelligent wire from transmitting on the same frequency. The network devices are assigned to communication time slots based on the communication schedule. The network devices are also assigned frequency offsets based on the communication schedule.

  • Patent number: 9392613
Abstract: A communications schedule routes data between relay nodes forming a wireless relay network and interconnects relay nodes by an ordered sequence of communications links established over a wireless resource comprising resource blocks. Candidate connectivity patterns for the ordered sequence of communications links and candidate resource allocations are provided. For each candidate connectivity pattern, a level of a performance characteristic is calculated for a selected combination of the candidate resource allocations. Based on a desired level of the performance characteristic, a candidate connectivity pattern and associated selected combination of candidate resource allocations whose calculated level of the performance characteristic meets the desired level, is selected as the communications schedule.

  • Patent number: 9363308
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and systems for improving utilization of a communications system (e.g., a satellite communications system) are provided through techniques referred to herein as “deltacasting.” Some embodiments use a server-side optimizer to intercept and create fingerprints of byte-level content data traversing links of the communications system. The content fingerprints are used to transparently identify communications patterns (e.g., repetitious downloads of the same content, correlations between users, etc.), which may then be used in exploiting multicasting and/or other opportunities for increased utilization of the communication links.

  • Patent number: 9350672
Abstract: An example method for performance enhancement in a heterogeneous network environment with multipath transport protocols is provided and includes receiving packets according to Transmission Control Protocol (TCP packets) and packets according to multipath TCP (MPTCP packets) in a network environment, determining that TCP packets are experiencing congestion in comparison to the MPTCP packets, and delaying acknowledgement packets (MPTCP ACK packets) corresponding to the MPTCP packets for a pre-determined time interval. In a specific embodiment, a local MPTCP proxy intercepts the TCP packets and forwards underlying data of the TCP packets according to MPTCP.

  • Patent number: 9344212
Abstract: To solve a problem that unless all of a plurality of AICH signature states are correctly decoded, the contents of reception results cannot be recognized and the error rate of signature decoding will be high. In this embodiment, a base station uses, out of a signature combination, the signature of at least one predetermined position to indicate information containing a preamble reception result and uses the signature of a position other than the predetermined position to indicate a transmission profile information number of an uplink channel for notification to a user equipment. Thus, the error rate related to reception results can be reduced as compared with the case where a single signature combination is used to notify all pieces of information.

  • Patent number: 9338023
Abstract: In one embodiment, a router gateway in a first Local Area Network (LAN) hosts both an Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) Rapid Deployment (6rd) Customer Edge (CE) as well as a 6rd Border Router (BR). In one specific example embodiment, upon registering the BR to a global computer network, the router gateway may then accept a 6rd tunnel from a device hosting a second 6rd CE of a second LAN, such that the 6rd tunnel joins the first and second LANs into a single LAN. The second CE may then communicate, via the router gateway, between the first and second LANs as a single LAN (e.g., site-to-site), accordingly.

  • Patent number: 9276879
Abstract: Mechanisms are provided, in a data processing system comprising a host system and a network adapter, for processing received frames of data over a network connection. The mechanisms receive, in the host system from the network adapter, a plurality of frames of data. The mechanisms record, by the host system, for each frame in the plurality of frames, a header size associated with the frame over a current predetermined interval. The mechanisms determine, by the host system, a receive buffer address offset for receive buffers in the host system for a next predetermined interval based on the recorded header sizes of the plurality of frames over the current predetermined interval. In addition, the mechanisms configure, by the host system, the network adapter to utilize the receive buffer address offset to perform data transfers with the host system.
