  • Patent number: 8063575
Abstract: The present invention is based on a regulation circuit (200a, 200b) for making available a constant current supply on the basis of a transformer principle, in which there flows through the luminescent diodes (D1, . . . ,DN) a triangular a.c. current (ID) varying periodically around a d.c. current value. With this method it is afforded by means of a circuitry provision that both the charging and also the discharging current (IL1) of an inductive reactance (XL1) connected in series to the luminescent diodes (D1, . . . ,DN), functioning as a storage choke (L1) for filtering of mains harmonics, flows as diode current (ID) through the luminescent diodes (D1, . . . ,DN). The advantage of this method consists in a significant reduction of the overall power loss (PV, ges) of the LED illumination module (100).

  • Patent number: 8065305
Abstract: There is provided a file server which is capable of suppressing power consumption of a storage apparatus. When a file sharing program receives a file access from a client, the program makes reference to a mapping table. Then, the program addresses the access to the target file in the volume of a RAID group in which the target file is stored. A coupling-request reception program memorizes a coupling time for each user into a coupling history table. A grouping program applies a grouping to users whose coupling time-zones are similar to each other. A data transfer program transfers, into the same RAID group, data of the files associated with the grouped users, thereby collecting the data of the files into the same RAID group. On account of this, the time-zone during which no access is made to the RAID group (i.e., non-coupling time-zone) can be made longer. Accordingly, a spin-up/down request program makes a spin-down request to the RAID group in the non-coupling time-zone.

  • Patent number: 8060478
Abstract: The management burden of a replication administrator is alleviated and the monitoring burden is reduced in a storage system. In a large-scale storage system configured across a plurality of sites, a management computer managing the storage system collects configuration information of a volume group such as the copy pair status information from a host computer of the respective sites including a primary site and a remote site, and analyzes the collected information. When a failure or a disaster occurs and the primary site and the remote site are switched and the management computer detects a change in the configuration of the volume group, and appropriate switches the monitoring configuration upon determining the configuration of the detected change.

  • Patent number: 8060496
Abstract: To generate appendices which uniquely reference an object geographically, a tree of possible paths is generated. The paths are evaluated in accordance with predefined criteria, which are suited for use as termination criteria, at the time the paths are formed. Of the remaining paths, at least that one is coded as an appendix which best fulfills at least one of the criteria.

  • Patent number: 8051048
Abstract: The invention relates to a system and a method for automated transfer and subsequent evaluation of the quality of mass data of a technical process or a technical project in a standardized environment (70) of one or more data processing devices with an assignment module (20) for allocating the mass data from one or more data sources (10) to structure elements in the standardized environment of the data processing device (70) and for generating a defined mapping of the mass data to be read in. The assignment module (20) interacts with a read-in module (30), into which the mass data can be read in an automated operation according to the selected assignment. The data read in can be fed to a checking module (40) for automated checking and/or for generation of a report for evaluation of the quality of the measured data read in.

  • Patent number: 8051038
Abstract: A computer-implemented system for maintaining a set of databases includes a first server that stores a master database of records that is updated on an intermittent basis, a second server that stores a computer-searchable, enhanced database of the same records as the master database, means for receiving intermittent updates from the master database and incorporating the updates into the enhanced database, means for electronically inputting information from sources other than the master database into the enhanced database, the information from other sources is more recent than information in the master database means and for revising the enhanced database to contain such more recent information and means for distributing information from the enhanced database to one or more subscriber servers.

  • Patent number: 8032545
Abstract: Certain embodiments of the present invention provide systems and methods for refining the identification of study candidates. In an embodiment, the method may include receiving a plurality of clinical conditions at a user interface. The conditions may generally be tied to codified terms in electronic medical patient records. The method may also include receiving parameters for tailoring a search of electronic medical data for the clinical conditions. For example, the parameters may weight the conditions and may include ranking the conditions, determining whether the conditions are mandatory for the pool, and determining a percentage deviation for numerical ranges. The method may also include executing an optimization function to create a pool according to the specified conditions and parameters. The method may also include displaying the pool in an order from the most optimal results to the least optimal results.

  • Patent number: 8032516
Abstract: A method for presenting a user with a unified bill of material from a plurality of bills of materials respectively stored in multiple databases is disclosed. The method includes receiving at least one keyword from the user, querying a taxonomy associated with the at least one keyword, utilizing a semantic based ontology model to generate queries for forwarding to the databases, the queries based on the taxonomy and the at least one keyword, receiving from the databases, a listing of the available information stored in the databases that includes the at least one keyword, presenting the listing to the user, receiving from the user, based on the listing, a selection of the information they wish to retrieve from the databases, generating a query requesting retrieval of the user selected information from the databases, receiving the retrieved information from the databases, and providing the retrieved information in an organized format.

  • Patent number: 8032514
Abstract: An apparatus and method optimize a query in a computer database system having a DISTINCT specifier. An SQL SELECT statement with a DISTINCT specifier is analyzed to determine if the expression can be optimized, and if so, the SELECT statement is reformulated to improve system performance. In preferred embodiments, the query optimizer eliminates the DISTINCT specifier in the outer select statement to reformulate the query. In other preferred embodiments, a query optimizer reformulates the query before being sent to the database manager to optimize the query to improve system performance.

  • Patent number: 8024309
Abstract: According to an embodiment of the invention, a filer or other storage server is coupled to a network to store files for users of the network. Agents are coupled to the filer, and performs a scan or file walk for a Multi-Appliance Management Application (MMA) which is coupled to the filer and can monitor and manage the filer. A directory structure of the filer may be divided into two or more paths, each of which may be scanned by an independent agent. The results of the scan, or file walk, are saved to a database server. In this way, multiple agents may be used to scan a single storage server, and the amount of time required for the scan is reduced.

  • Patent number: 7987152
Abstract: The present invention provides a federation of clusters for uniform and consistent enterprise-wide data management. The federation is an affiliation of clusters, dispersed over different locations that provide a comprehensive solution to the management of all types of data stored in different devices. Each cluster owns data sources connected to the same network it is attached to. Devices connected to the network, and the cluster for managing data accessible through the network constitute an autonomous area. Results from different locations are consolidated to produce unified results and reports. The enterprise-wide data management allows enterprises to validate compliance with federal regulations and insures that data management objectives are being met in all departments within an organization. In addition to enterprise-wide data management, a member cluster of a federation can perform data management local to its autonomous area and execute policies formulated for that area.
