Abstract: The invention provides a system and a method of searching for information in a database using a query. In the method, it comprises the steps of: disambiguating the query to identify keyword senses associated with the query; disambiguating information in the database according to the keyword senses; indexing the information in the database according to the keyword senses; expanding the keyword senses to include relevant semantic synonyms for the keyword senses to create a list of expanded keyword senses; searching the database to find relevant information for the query using the expanded keyword senses; and providing search results of the included information containing the keyword senses and other semantically related words senses. The system comprises modules which disambiguate queries and information and indexes the information in a database of word senses.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a processing method of data stream using Border Monitoring Query, and more particularly a monitoring method and a system for data streams which are a large volume of data and continuously generated such as financial ticker, GPS data or a ubiquitous sensor network (USN). The objectives of the present invention are to process a large number of BMQs over data streams in high-performance and scalable manner. For this purpose, the invention presents BMQ-Index, a scalable and high performance data stream monitoring framework. The main idea of BMQ-Index is shared and incremental processing. For shared processing, BMQ-Index adopts a query indexing approach, thereby achieving a high level of scalability. Once BMQ-Index is built on registered queries, only relevant queries are quickly searched for upon an incoming data. For incremental processing, BMQ-Index employs an incremental access method, i.e.

Abstract: Outbound network traffic originating from a client is filtered, to check for files targeted for upload to remote sites. When a file targeted for upload to a remote site is detected, a remote storage location at which the client's backup data is stored is checked for a copy of the detected file. If a copy of the file is located at the remote backup site, that copy is substituted for the client copy in the network transmission to the target remote site. By uploading online copies of files when available, the client upload experience is much faster, and local bandwidth is preserved for other tasks.

Abstract: Content-based addressing is used to navigate forward, backward and in a circular fashion through documents in a content space. To enable backward navigation, a descriptor file is created for a new version that contains not only a message digest for the new version, but also a message digest of the older document. A message digest is created for the descriptor file. A user navigates backward starting with the message digest of the descriptor file. To enable forward navigation, a mapping table maps a message digest of an older document into the message digest of the new version. A high-level descriptor file contains the message digest of the original document and the message digest of the mapping table. The message digest of the high-level descriptor file is returned to the user. A user navigates forward starting with the high-level descriptor file message digest.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the usage of space in a database is provided. A first set of space usage data that reflects the amount of free space associated with one or more tablespaces of a database is stored at a first database server. A second set of space usage data is retrieved from one or more other database servers. The first set of space usage data and the second set of space usage data are both updated based on changes made to the database by the particular database server storing the space usage data. The first set of space usage data is updated at the first database server with the second set of space usage data. The first database server may evaluate the usage of space in the database based on the updated first set of space usage data.

Abstract: Methods, computer-readable media, and systems for providing a user with media item ratings based upon media item ratings of a community of related users. The user sends information about herself to the system. The system places the user in a community of users based upon the user information and provides media item ratings to members of the community based upon media item ratings by other community members.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for implementing searches using contextual information associated with a Web page (or other document) that a user is viewing when a query is entered. The page includes a contextual search interface that has an associated context vector representing content of the page. When the user submits a search query via the contextual search interface, the query and the context vector are both provided to the query processor and used in responding to the query. The context vector can be enhanced by the addition of terms related to one or more terms appearing in the context vector or the query.

Abstract: When image data is a stereo image, information indicating that an image file to be generated is a stereo file, information indicating a frame number, information indicating whether photographing is performed from a left visual point or a right visual point are generated as a file name, and a file name conforming to a predetermined format is generated. Then, the generated file name is written to a header information portion, generating a file.

Abstract: Seeding replication is disclosed. One or more but not all files stored on a deduplicated storage system are selected to be replicated. One or more segments referred to by the selected one or more but not all files are determined. A data structure is created that is used to indicate that at least the one or more segments are to be replicated. In the event that an indication based at least in part on the data structure indicates that a candidate segment stored on the deduplicating storage system is to be replicated, the candidate segment is replicated.

Abstract: Described is an efficient retrieval mechanism that quickly locates documents (e.g., corresponding to online advertisements) based on query term discrimination. A topmost subset (e.g., two) of search terms is selected according to their ranked importance, e.g., as ranked by inverted document frequency. The topmost terms are then used to narrow the number of rows of an inverted query index that are searched to find document identifiers and associated scores, such as computed offline by a BM25 algorithm. For example, for each document identifier of each important term, a fast search within each of the narrowed subset of rows (that also contain that document identifier) may be performed by comparing document identifiers to jump a pointer within each other row, followed by a binary search to locate a particular document. The scores of the set of particular documents may then be used to rank their relative importance for returning as results.

Abstract: A method and system are provided for managing requests to access data in a computer environment. In one aspect of the present invention, a request manager receives a request associated with meta data corresponding to data that is maintained separately from the meta data. In another aspect, the request manager informs a data object manager of an anticipated request that will be received by the data object manager to enable it to prepare for the anticipated request. The data object manager commences preparing for the anticipated request in response to being informed of the anticipated request to facilitate a reduction in data access time. In one example of a computing environment utilizing one or more aspects of the invention, a storage subsystem comprising a data object manager prepares for the anticipated request by pre-fetching data blocks from storage media into a cache.

Abstract: An electronic device having a file restore function and a method thereof are provided. The electronic device includes a formatting unit for performing a backup of data that is used for file management in a backup region of a recording medium, and formatting the recording medium by initializing a region in which the data is recorded; and an unformatting unit for unformatting the recording medium by restoring the backup data in the backup region. Accordingly, files recorded in the recording medium can be all restored by unformatting the formatted recording medium.

Abstract: In a business system, one or more methods can be used to reduce an amount of redundancy in the storage of data. One implementation includes a method of reducing a memory footprint of a database table having multiple rows and one or more columns, in which each of the one or more columns has a cardinality, and the cardinality is a total number of different values in the rows of each column. The method includes comparing the cardinality with a total number of possible values in the rows of at least one column based on a width of the column. The method also includes reducing the width of the column if the cardinality is less than a threshold based on the total number of possible values in the rows of the column.

Search engine links are generated based on the search terms. The search engine links are embedded into the content for matches within the content to the search terms. Selection of a search engine link by a user initiates a search for the search term associated with the search engine link.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for updating databases are disclosed. An update vector for an object is created for identifying updated attributes. A dependent object is identified and a dependency vector of the dependent object is compared with update vector to determine whether the dependent object depends on the updated attributes.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for using interpolation to associate timestamp values to data received in a data capture and analysis system. An analysis processor receives data representing data transferred in a communications link. The analysis processor also receives timestamp signals. The analysis processor performs an interpolation between at least two timestamp values received and associates results of the interpolation with the data. The analysis processor analyzes the data. A logic device can be coupled to the analysis processor to interleave timestamp signal values with the data and transmit the interleaved data and timestamp signals to the analysis processor.

Abstract: The invention provides a system and method of associating results from a query from a user directed to a search engine to advertisements associated with the search engine. In the method, there are the steps of: obtaining advertisement keyword senses associated with the advertisements; disambiguating the query to identify query keyword senses associated with the query; expanding the query keyword senses to include relevant semantic synonyms for the query keyword senses to create a list of expanded query keyword senses; using the expanded keyword senses to search the advertisement keyword senses to locate relevant advertisements correlating to the query; and providing the relevant advertisements to the user. Abstract: The present disclosure describes a technique for reducing east-west geometry mismatch between the top and bottom of a raster display. This is accomplished by generating a horizontal correction signal that does not have any discontinuities.
