  • Patent number: 6920643
Abstract: Pore-free rubber articles are prepared by dip-molding in a dipping medium that includes a vulcanizing agent, then by immersing the dip former in a heated liquid bath that is chemically inert. A particularly effective liquid bath is molten inorganic salt. In addition, the tensile properties of an article of vulcanized rubber can be improved to an unusually effective degree by immersing the already vulcanized article in a solution of a vulcanizing agent to cause the rubber of the article to absorb or imbibe the vulcanizing agent from the solution, and then immersing the rubber and the imbibed vulcanizing agent in a heated liquid bath to increase the degree of vulcanization.

  • Patent number: 6908581
Abstract: A method of co-extruding a plurality of plastic material flowing streams into a mold cavity produces a molded product. Inner and outer streams of covering plastic materials are combined with at least one interior stream that is to serve as an interior core of a resulting molded plastic product. The combined streams are forced to flow along annular flow paths, with the annular interior stream encased within the inner and outer annular covering plastic material stream layers. The flows of the interior stream and the inner and outer streams are controlled so that: the interior stream has a flow velocity that is greater than an average velocity of the combined stream, and the interior stream does not flow along or across a zero-velocity-gradient streamline of the combined streams.

  • Patent number: 6890464
Abstract: A coating position at which an water sealing agent in an unsolidified condition is coated on an outer periphery of each wire is provided. A first mold formed with a groove and a second mold configured to be inserted into the groove are provided. The second mold has a molding face which defines a space between a bottom portion of the groove. The space has a cross section which is identical with a cross sectional shape of a through hole of a grommet through which the wires are inserted. The wires are conveyed one by one so as to pass through the coating position while coating the outer periphery of each wire with the water sealing agent. The wires coated with the water sealing agent are thrown into the groove of the first mold. The second mold is inserted into the groove to press the wires in the groove such that the unsolidified water sealing agent fills interstices of adjacent wires while solidifying the water sealing agent.

  • Patent number: 6890468
Abstract: A mold is described for molding an elastomeric glazing profile in situ on a single major face of a sheet of glazing material, e.g. a glass sheet. The mold comprises a first mold segment and at least one further mold segment which are relatively movable into intimate contact, so that they define, together with the sheet, a mold cavity for molding the profile on the single major face. The profile has a show face, (i.e. one which is visible in use), and the portion of the mold cavity that molds the show face is entirely formed by a single mold segment to avoid mold lines on the show face. Also described are a corresponding molding method and the glazing product thereby obtained, which may be used as a vehicle window.

  • Patent number: 6881374
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming laminate composite structures. At least two laminae, each containing electrically conductive reinforcing fibers, are placed upon each other in contacting relationship to form a generally layered structure. The layered structure may be subjected to heat to conductively transfer heat through the layered structure and thereby improve the surface contact between two laminae. The layered structure is volumetrically heated by inductively transferring energy to the electrically conductive reinforcing fibers. The heated, layered structure is consolidated, such as by applying pressure and reducing the temperature of the layered structure. The consolidated structure is then quenched by rapidly cooling the consolidated structure in a directionally controlled manner about a midplane thereof.

  • Patent number: 6881371
Abstract: An intermediate product is formed by combining together plurality of constituent elements. The intermediate product is arranged in a mold an then molten resin is charged in the mold. An opening is formed so as to correspond to a plus terminal, a minus terminal, and a temperature detecting terminal in the intermediate product, and its periphery is covered with the resin. Whereupon, a thin enclosed outer packaging body is realized that is made compact and offers excellent dust-proof, drip-proof structure. Alternatively, the intermediate product is housed in an outer packaging case having an open end that allows insertion of the intermediate product, and resin is charged in the open end, thereby achieving sealing.

  • Patent number: 6878319
Abstract: In an apparatus and process for manufacturing a detergent bar, the bar comprises a first distinct zone comprising a first component and at least a second distinct zone comprising a second component. In an injection step, the first and second components are injected into the mold cavity via nozzle means having a first orifice through which the first component is injected. The second component is injected through a second orifice of the nozzle means. The first and second components solidify in the cavity to form the bar. The interface between the zones may be non-planar and/or such that the zones cannot be separated by a unidirectional cut. The first and second zones may respectively comprise detergent and a benefit agent. The first and second zones may differ in texture.

  • Patent number: 6878325
Abstract: A decorative cover for a post having a hollow body. The hollow body includes a continuous wall having a substantially uniform thickness, and a cavity having at least one undercut that would prevent a core from being pulled from the cavity. The decorative post can be manufactured by providing a mold, introducing a liquid thermosetting resin within the mold, rotating the mold about first and second axes, curing the liquid thermosetting resin as the mold is rotated to form a body with a substantially uniform wall thickness, and removing the cured liquid thermosetting resin from the mold.

  • Patent number: 6875389
Abstract: The present invention is a process for producing an injection-molded thermoplastic work piece having a thermoset coating bonded thereto, comprising the steps of introducing into a closed mold a thermoplastic material, such as a polyolefin, heated to a temperature above its melting point and molding said material to form a work piece; followed by introducing a thermoset coating composition capable of generating free radicals into the closed mold to contact at least a portion of a surface of the work piece, the temperature of which is at or above the temperature at which free radicals contained in the coating composition are generated. The mold is then opened and the work piece is removed after the coating composition has at least partially cured. The present invention is also directed to a molded article made by the described process.

  • Patent number: 6872346
Abstract: A problem in the manufacture of filters using tubular membrane bundles is keeping potting material from flowing into the openings at the ends of the tubes. A preferred embodiment of a method for manufacturing a tubular membrane filter employs a non-contact heat source such as radiant heating to melt the tips of the tubular membranes. This prevents the migration of potting material into the tubes when the potting material is flowed into the ends of tube bundles during the manufacturing process for a filter.
