Abstract: A method for using a scroll bar in a multiple panel user interface. The method includes determining that two or more panels are displayed on a user interface, the two or more panels operated by a same scroll bar. The method includes detecting a cursor movement over the same scroll bar and responsive to the cursor movement over the scroll bar, displaying an icon. The method includes receiving an active panel selection via the icon and indicating the selected panel is active. The method further includes detecting movement of the same scroll bar on the selected panel and scrolling a displayed content of the selected panel corresponding to the movement of the same scroll bar.

Abstract: A tool panel docking application is described that manages the docking of tool panels and palettes on an edge of an IDE workspace. As the user selects to dock various tool panels, the IDE monitors the positioning of each panel so as not to overlap the content of any of the individual panels making up the combined docked palettes and that allow the user to select how much of the underlying workspace is obscured by the combined docked palettes.

Abstract: In a cloud computing system having a plurality of computational resources that are connected via a network, a table display section displays, on a terminal used by a user using the cloud computing system, a table showing a list of thumbnail movies of execution screens of applications that can be provided on arbitrary dates and times to the user, the table assigning the thumbnail movies to specified dates and times. A movie selection acceptance section acquires the user's selection from the thumbnail movies shown in the table. An application provision part provides an application, associated with the thumbnail movie selected by the user, to the user.

Abstract: User interface changes related to moving items in a user interface are disclosed. An operation (e.g., a drag operation) can be initiated on selected items by moving a cursor or pointing device in the user interface, and an animation can be presented illustrating representations of the selected items moving from their respective original locations toward a current location of the cursor or pointing device and forming a cluster in proximity to the current location of the cursor or pointing device. As the cluster of items is moved over a container object in the user interface, the representations of the items can adopt the appearance style defined by that container object. The representations of the items can also be shown to depart from the cluster and move toward anticipated locations of the items in the container object as a preview of a drop operation into the container object.

Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a communication device having a tablet with a touch-sensitive display. The tablet can be adapted to present a user interface (UI), receive a UI policy from a service provider of a communication system communicatively couplable to the tablet to manage operations of the UI, detect a request from a user of the tablet to adapt the UI, and manage the adaptation of the UI according to the UI policy. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: A device and method for filtering messages is provided. The device comprises: a processor; a memory storing messages, at least a subset of the messages designated as unread messages; and a touchscreen including a display. A sliding touch input is detected at the touchscreen, the sliding touch input including a change in direction, the sliding touch input terminating in a static touch input proximal an edge of the touchscreen. In response to detecting the static touch input, a list of the unread messages is provided at the display.

A determination is made that the position of the first finger has changed. A determination is made that the distance by which the first finger has changed position exceeds a tolerance. The content is ceased to be displayed in response to the determination that the tolerance has been exceed.

Abstract: Presentation descriptions are provided to an operating system of a computing device to present outputs associated with the applications in an organized and intuitive manner to the user. The presentation descriptions provide the operating system with information about the structure and meaning of the output element. The task of organizing at least part of the output elements associated with applications is delegated to the operating system. The operating system analyzes the presentation descriptions, and organizes the output elements associated with the applications at least partly based on the presentation descriptions.

Abstract: A system for displaying at least one notification from at least one source includes a processor configured to access the at least one notification from the at least one source, the at least one notification comprising content and geographical information. The processor is further configured to display the notification on a map based on the geographical information of the notification. A method for displaying at least one notification from at least one source is also provided.

Abstract: A system and method for content creation based on a mixed-initiative approach includes an interface configured to allow a user to access and interact with a generation module to assist in the creation of a media project based on media from a media database. The generation module is configured to receive user-selected media and retrieve a set of related media and populate and organize the media project with the user-selected media and related media. For example, in the case of a photo book project, the generation module is configured to automatically identify a set of images associated with a user-selected image and populate a corresponding page of the photo book with the user-selected image and set of associated images in a corresponding layout, having the user-selected image most prominently depicted. The generation module provides the user with a preview of a generated page for evaluation and manual user editing.

Abstract: Example systems and methods of performing a snapping operation in a graphical user interface are presented. In one example, a first user input indicating an initiation of a dragging operation in the graphical user interface is received, wherein the first user input indicates a first location. A source feature corresponding to a source object is determined based on the first location. Also received is a second user input during the dragging operation in the graphical user interface, in which the second user input indicates a current location. A current target feature corresponding to a current target object is determined based on the current location. The source feature corresponding to the source object is snapped to the current target feature corresponding to the current target object.

Abstract: The invention provides a method, system, and program product for reducing use of one or more computer resources. In one embodiment, the invention includes monitoring a user's interaction with a virtual universe, determining whether the user's interaction with the virtual universe is consistent with the user's attention being diverted from the virtual universe, determining whether a computer resource allocated to the user should be reduced, and in the case that the computer resource should be reduced, reducing the computer resource.

Abstract: A method for providing a mechanism by which different user interface effects may be performed for different classifications of gestures may include receiving an indication of a touch event at a touch screen display, determining a gesture classification and an implementation characteristic classification for the touch event, and enabling provision of substantively different user interface effects for respective different implementation characteristic classifications of the gesture classification. A corresponding apparatus and computer program product are also provided.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to systems, methods, and computer-storage media for organizing presentation of browser toolbars. In one embodiment, a toolbar of a web browser is presented. The toolbar has a search input box. Additionally, one or more application icons are presented on each of at least two sides of the search input box. An indication that a user has engaged an application icon of the toolbar is received. Further, an application window is presented beneath the search input box of the toolbar. The application window comprises content associated with the application icon.

Abstract: A map display system including a unit that stores map information including information about a facility icon, a display unit, a position detecting unit that detects a touch position on the screen of the display unit when the screen is touched, and a scroll control unit that performs follow scrolling in which a map image on the display unit is scrolled following movement of the touch position detected by the position detecting unit, and that performs inertial scrolling in which the map image is scrolled on the basis of a moving direction and speed of the touch position when touching the screen is released.

In an implementation, a method is implemented by a computing device that includes displaying content in conjunction with a first level of a hierarchical menu in a user interface on a display device of the computing device. Responsive to receipt of an input to navigate to a second level of the hierarchical menu that is a sublevel of the first level, the second level in displayed conjunction with the content on the display device, the content having a reduced display richness when displayed in conjunction with the second level than when displayed in conjunction with the first level.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for associating objects in a database. An exemplary method involves identifying one or more objects in the database that are likely to be related to a first object in the database that is based on data obtained from a local application associated with a user and displaying the identified objects on a client device associated with the user. In exemplary embodiments, the identified objects are displayed in response to selection of a graphical user interface element enabling indication of a second object from among the one or more objects, wherein the first object is associated with the second object in the database after receiving indication of the second object. In one or more exemplary embodiments, the database is a multi-tenant database in a multi-tenant system providing instances of a virtual application to multiple tenants.

Abstract: To provide a method, a program and a system for supporting the input of one or more execution parameters of predetermined software in an input field. The method includes: receiving input of a text character string including one or more execution parameters in the input field displayed on a display device; displaying one the display device one or more execution options of the predetermined software in such a manner that a user can select the options in response to selection of a part of the text character string by the user; and transforming the text character string so as to include at least one of the one or more execution options selected and displaying the transformed text character string on the display device. The one or more execution options displayed can vary with the type of selection of the part of the text character string.
