Abstract: A device, system and method for real-time personalization of streaming video is provided. The device has access to a memory storing: nonpersonalized video segments; and data for rendering personalized video segments, the nonpersonalized video segments and the personalized video segments associated with a given order. When a request for a personalized video is received, the device causes rendering of at least a subset of the personalized video segments to be rendered using the data, incorporating personal data associated with the request into the personalized video segments. As the personalized video segments are rendered, the device updates and transmits a manifest, to the communication device, identifying available video segments according to the given order. The video segments identified in the manifest are provided to the communication device in response to receiving requests for the video segments.

Abstract: Introduced here are systems to manage and discover a processing offloader. A first multimedia device may identify a processing offloader in a networked environment. A first multimedia device may determine that a bandwidth of a second multimedia device in the networked environment falls below a threshold bandwidth, indicating that the second multimedia device may process instructions and render multimedia information with increased latency or delay. Based on this determination, the first multimedia device may forward instructions from the second multimedia device to the processing offloader for the processing offloader to process and render multimedia information on behalf of the second multimedia device based on the received instructions. The first multimedia device may forward rendered multimedia information from the processing offloader to the second multimedia device, and the second multimedia device may output the rendered multimedia information to an output device.

Abstract: An electronic device and method are provided for display of a programming guide for content associated with broadcaster and VOD applications. The electronic device receives a DTV signal that include programming content items associated with broadcaster applications on the electronic device and extracts a set of in-band metadata associated with programming content items. The electronic device selects a set of VOD assets offered by at least one VOD application on the electronic device and extracts a set of out-of-band metadata associated with the programming content items and the selected set of VOD assets from at least one metadata source. The electronic device parses the set of in-band metadata and the set of out-of-band metadata and combines such parsed sets of metadata into a unified metadata file based on a master template. Based on the unified metadata file, the electronic device controls a display device to render a programming guide.

Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, embodiments comprising obtaining a plurality of original frames for video content, receiving a first viewpoint from a mobile device, and processing the plurality of original frames according to the first viewpoint generating a plurality of first viewpoint frames. Further embodiments include providing the plurality of first viewpoint frames to the mobile device, generating a group of delta frames in response to receiving a change in viewpoint from the mobile device, and providing the group of delta frames to the mobile device. The mobile device processes a portion of the plurality of first viewpoint frames according to the group of delta frames to generate a group of second viewpoint frames and the mobile device presents the group of second viewpoint frames. A predetermined number of pieces of media access information associated for a set of media access control, are sequentially inserted into a layer of the media stream or a layer of the container. For example, the media access information includes identification information for making a distinction from different media access information and identification information for making an association with the different media access information. A set of media access control can thereby be favorably performed on a reception side.

Abstract: Aspects include systems, computer readable media and methods for remotely updating properties of Audio/Visual (A/V) performance nodes that can receive A/V content through a wireless network from a central content source. The central content source can maintain information about properties of such nodes, providing such information to a device configured with remote control software, upon request. The remote control device can accept user inputs relating to properties updates, indications of such being provided to the central content source for distribution to nodes whose properties were updated. Examples of updatable properties include on/off toggling, and volume controls. Updating such properties can be protected by passwords. The central content source can be configured as software executing on a personal computer operable to communicate over the Internet for obtaining access to streaming and/or downloadable A/V content.

For example, a system for communication of data streams to endpoints is provided that includes: encoders, each encoder configured to encode a data stream according to at least one encoding parameter; transmitting devices organized into groups based on at least one communication characteristic; each group of transmitting devices configured to receive encoded data from an associated one of the encoders; each transmitting device of the plurality of transmitting devices configured to transmit the encoded data to an associated one of the plurality of endpoints; and at least one controller configured to monitor communication characteristics of the plurality of transmitting devices and to adjust membership of the transmitting devices in the plurality of groups based on the monitored communication characteristics.

Abstract: Described herein are systems, methods and apparatus which allow users to remotely access content from other devices. One embodiment provides a method for presenting available content to a user via a television receiver. A first content selection menu is output for display that includes at least a first content selection item associated with locally accessible content and a second content selection item associated with an external device. Responsive to a request associated with the second content selection item, the method includes outputting for display a second content selection menu. The second content selection menu specifies at least one content item remotely available through the external device. A user provides a selection of the at least one content item and the television receiver receives the selected content item from the external device and outputs the selected content item for presentation by a presentation device.

Abstract: A distribution element for a self-calibrating RF network and system and method for use of the same are disclosed. In one embodiment of the distribution element, the distribution element is located between a headend layer and an endpoint layer. An upstream directional control circuit and a downstream directional control circuit are positioned in a spaced opposing relationship such that respective upstream line and the downstream line are separated into a forward line and reverse line therebetween while being combined at the respective upstream directional control circuit and the downstream directional control circuit. A pair of amplifier circuits positioned between the upstream and downstream control circuits are under the control of a controller to amplify and shape the signal of the forward line and the reverse line. The controller monitor and analyzes signals through the distribution element.

Abstract: Cache management techniques are described for a content distribution network (CDN), for example, a video on demand (VOD) system supporting user requests and delivery of video content. A preferred cache size may be calculated for one or more cache devices in the CDN, for example, based on a maximum cache memory size, a bandwidth availability associated with the CDN, and a title dispersion calculation determined by the user requests within the CDN. After establishing the cache with a set of assets (e.g., video content), an asset replacement algorithm may be executed at one or more cache devices in the CDN. When a determination is made that a new asset should be added to a full cache, a multi-factor comparative analysis may be performed on the assets currently residing in the cache, comparing the popularity and size of assets and combinations of assets, along with other factors to determine which assets should be replaced in the cache device.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to a content (e.g., media) transfer or fling platform system and method. In a media fling platform system, media items may be cached at a rendering device prior to any selection of media items to fling. The determination of which media to cache may be based on a variety of factors including a user fling history, a currently viewed media item, and a navigation point in the media files. A fling request may take priority over caching, and the fling request may interrupt any caching processes.

Abstract: A video application executing on a client device allows a user to modify video data captured by the client device. The video application allows the user to transmit the video data to a viewing client device for presentation to a viewing user. For example, the video application transmits the video data to an online system, which transmits the video data to the viewing client device. The viewing user provides a request to modify the video data to the viewing client device, which transmits the request to the online system. Based on the request from the viewing client device, the online system identifies a modification to the video data to the client device, which modifies the captured video data accordingly. The modified video data is provided from the client device to the viewing client device via the online system.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for a media guidance application that can cause a specific portion of a media asset to be stored based on a user command. For example, if the user requests the closing scene from a given movie, the media guidance application may detect the command, determine that it comprises an instruction to store a portion of a media asset, identify a source of the portion of the media asset, and cause the portion of the media asset to be stored. The media guidance application may also cause the entirety of the media asset to be stored and initiate playback at the start of the requested portion. This may allow users to store and watch portions of particular interest without requiring that the users seek through the entire media asset on their own.

Abstract: A recording device includes a tuner, a memory, and a controller. The tuner receives broadcast programs. The memory records the broadcast programs via a plurality of recording paths between the tuner and the memory. The controller uses at least two of the recording paths to record a plurality of consecutive broadcast programs on a predetermined channel in the memory. An output of the tuner is inputted to the at least two of the recording paths.
