Abstract: Systems and methods may be provided for retrieving non-on-demand media data and on-demand media data that is provided by separate data sources. On-demand media data may be cached to reduce system latencies and the burden on the distribution network.
Abstract: A method for receiving a multimedia service is provided. The method includes receiving service specific information for at least one multimedia service provided from different networks, selecting one service based on the service specific information, and receiving the selected service. The service specific information includes one of a first service map table including information about at least one service which is transmitted over a plurality of logical channels, and a second service map table including information about at least one service which is transmitted over a single logical channel. Each of the first and second service map tables includes asset-related information.

Abstract: A method for generating and updating video news edition. Abstract: A method is provided for managing over-the-top delivery of content through a plurality of content delivery networks (CDN). The method provided works transparently with standard HTTP servers supporting an initial request for content from a client to a first preferred CDN. If the first CDN does not have the content, the method includes provisions for the first CDN to acquire the content from a second CDN, or for the client to request the content from a second CDN directly. A system is also specified for implementing a client and server infrastructure in accordance with the provisions of the method.

Abstract: Systems and methods for incorporating social content items into a produced video are provided. The system presents a producer interface to a user that allows the user to query for social content items. The user may then select and arrange social content items in an on-air queue. In an on-air mode, the system generates a broadcast-ready on-air format of the social content items and provides a video stream including the broadcast-ready social content items in the on-air queue to a video production system. The broadcast-ready social content items are incorporated into a produced video by the video production system. The user may navigate through the social content items in the on-air queue while on camera as part of the produced video.

Abstract: Systems and methods for recommending a media asset relating to a character unknown to a user are provided herein. The systems and methods may receive a first media asset viewed by a user, determine a first character in the first media asset, and include the first character in the character viewing profile for the user. Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for distributing content are disclosed. In one aspect, a method includes storing, in a data structure, data specifying a future live event. An opportunity to provide the specified content to a user at a user device is identified. It is determined that (i) a time of the opportunity is between a start time and an end time for the live event, (ii) that a user device is located in a same geographic region as the live event based on geographical data provided by the user device, and (iii) the user is interested in the live event based on attributes of the user matching attributes of other users that were identified as interested in the live event (e.g., based on evaluation of online search data). Abstract: The present invention enables a receiving side to easily recognize a high-quality format corresponding to encoded image data included in an extended video stream. Abstract: An apparatus and method for using a server to generate per-user manifest files for providing unique viewing experiences and proxy modules local to video players receiving the manifest files for measuring video playback events with frame accuracy is disclosed. In one aspect, a server may be used to generate a manifest file for directing a video player to play requested video content in a video stream with advertising or other alternative content which may be desired. A proxy module local to the video player may parse the video stream to inject triggers at frame accurate locations which may be desired for measuring, such as at a precise frame in which the alternative content starts, stops, and/or reaches a midpoint with respect to the requested video content.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for managing video playback for users during video streaming is disclosed. In one aspect, a server may be used to generate manifest files and updates to video players requesting video content. As a result, instead of relying on each video player to enforce logic rules for distribution of the video content, the manifest files and updates may be used to enforce the logic rules on a wider variety of video player configurations. In addition, the manifest files and updates may be provided unique to each video player. Consequently, the manifest files and updates may further provide customized user experiences despite the same video content being requested.
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided to create a media consumer-personalized database table of selectable actions related to media content of interest to a media consumer that is being displayed on a media device. The media content of interest is identified by the media consumer by recording an indication of the media content of interest via a signal received from a user input device when the media content of interest is being displayed or presented. The database table of selectable actions is then presented to the media consumer who can initiate one of the actions.
