  • Patent number: 8755403
Abstract: Systems and methods for reducing overhead by using block acknowledgment with an all polling technique while attempting to meet latency and QoS requirements. Each node transmits a number of packets upon receiving a polling message. The Access Point (AP) then replies with a Block Acknowledgement (BlockAck), which is combined with a subsequent polling message and contains a bitmap that indicates 1 for a successfully received packet and 0 for a failed reception.

  • Patent number: 8532025
Abstract: Certain embodiments of the present disclosure may allow WiMAX signaling overhead to be reduced by sending burst allocation information to MSs using messages that may be transmitted using more efficient modulation coding schemes (MCSs) than that allowed for DL-MAP and UL-MAP messages. For example, burst allocation information may be sent in SUB-DL-UL-MAP or HARQ-MAP messages that may be encoded with selectable MCSs that result in higher data rate than an MCS used for conventional DL-MAP and UL-MAP messages. For certain embodiments, MSs may be partitioned into groups based on CINR and the burst allocation information for each group may be transmitted using an MCS that is appropriate for that group based on the CINR for MSs in that group.

  • Patent number: 8462668
Abstract: The system, method, and article of manufacture of the present invention allows multiple customers connected to a common external network to each implement a layer 2 redundancy protocol, such as the spanning tree protocol, in order to prevent layer 2 loops. Accordingly, a method is presented for providing an independent loop free layer 2 topology between a external network and a customer network comprising tagging control packets originating on the customer network with a unique identifier and tunneling the control packets received from the customer network between a plurality of boundary interface devices at the external network such that the control packets are routed back to the customer network based on the presence of the unique identifier in the control packet. The layer 2 redundancy protocol on the customer network converges based at least in part on the presence of control packets appearing on more than one port on the customer network.

  • Patent number: 8411697
Abstract: In a method of improved media frame transmission in a communication network. Initially a plurality of “original” or regular media frames are provided for transmission. According to the invention, robust representations of the provided regular media frames are generated and stored locally. Subsequently, one or more of the regular media frames is/are transmitted. The invention detects an indication of a loss of a transmitted media frame, and the idea is to transmit, in response to a detected frame loss, a stored robust representation of the lost media frame and/or a stored robust representation of a subsequent, not yet transmitted, media frame to increase the media quality.

  • Patent number: 8233472
Abstract: A full services access multiplexer is described. A master DSL modem is coupled to a conductor pair. A POTS extender is coupled to the conductor pair and may sense the operation of a fallback or other signal on the conductor pair. A suppression signal may be transmitted to the master DSL modem upon occurrence of the fallback. The suppression signal may travel over a control circuit. Traffic over a backplane or other network segment may be uninterrupted to an Integrated Access Device by handling signals inbound and outbound to the backplane via packet assembler and disassembler (PAD). The PAD may transmit a data stream to vocoder and received a data stream from vocoder for injection onto the backplane. The vocoder connects duplexed traffic to the subscriber line interface circuit (SLIC), wherein traffic between the vocoder and the SLIC are in analog formats in or near the audible range of frequencies.

  • Patent number: 8111690
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for routing traffic through a virtual router-based network switch. According to one embodiment, a flow data structure is established that identifies current packet flows associated with multiple virtual routers in the virtual router-based network device. When an incoming packet is received by the virtual router-based network device, it is then determined whether the incoming packet is associated with a current packet flow by accessing the flow data structure based on a header associated with the incoming packet. If it is determined that the incoming packet is associated with the current packet flow, then the incoming packet is hardware forwarded via a network interface of the virtual router-based network device without intervention by a processor of the virtual router-based network device, otherwise the incoming packet is forwarded to software on the processor for flow learning.

  • Patent number: 8085791
Abstract: The invention is directed towards techniques for forwarding subscriber frames through a Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) aggregation network using MPLS labels. Layer two (L2) network devices, such as access nodes, of a service provider (SP) network implement MPLS functionality in the data plane, but do not implement an MPLS signaling protocol in the control plane. The L2 network devices include a pool of labels applied in the data plane of the L2 network device to output MPLS communications to the MPLS network, and a protocol that allows a layer three (L3) device to control provision of L2 functionality by the L2 device. The pool of labels is dynamically configured by the L3 device via the protocol. The access nodes distribute the subscriber labels and MPLS labels as upstream assigned labels.

  • Patent number: 8085784
Abstract: With time intervals and transmission times of packets of real time streams, transmission end times thereof are calculated. The transmission order of packets of the real time streams is decided in the order of the earlier transmission end times thereof. Transmission end times of packets of a non-real time stream are compared with the scheduling times of packets of the plurality of real time streams. When the transmission end times of packets of the non-real time stream are earlier than any one of the scheduling times of packets of the plurality of real time streams, the packets of the non-real time streams are transmitted.
