  • Patent number: 7620056
Abstract: A protocol is provided for backing up ATM network devices should they fail. The protocol is implemented in a system running ATMARP and supporting IP over ATM. In the protocol, multiple ATM network devices are combined in a “standby group” and share a common IP address. When an active member of the standby group fails, one of the other members of the standby group takes over ATM responsibility for the functions of the failed device. An ATMARP Server determines which member of a standby group should handle IP packets destined for that group.

  • Patent number: 7602734
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer-readable media are provided for dynamically recognizing and processing service order types in a network management system. Service type data for a new service order type is registered in a database table while the network management system is operating. Then, a service order is received in the network management system and the service order is parsed to determine if the received service order corresponds with the new service order type based on the service type data registered in the database table. If the service order corresponds with the new service order type, then the service order is processed by the network management system. If the service order does not correspond with the new service order type, then updated service type data may be registered in the database table.

  • Patent number: 7599290
Abstract: Methods and systems for providing necessary and sufficient quality-of-service (QoS), in a packet-based core transport network that utilizes dynamic setting of bandwidth management pipes or thresholds to obviate link congestion are disclosed. Congestion avoidance is a necessary and sufficient requirement in order to guarantee Quality of Service (QoS) in packet-based core networks. A typical network is composed of a plurality of backbone links connecting edge nodes where backhaul links are aggregated. The backhaul links connect the backbone links to the remote sites serving the subscribers. In order to enforce bandwidth management policies, Access Controllers, which perform traffic shaping, are situated on each remote site. In the event of a violation of certain link threshold settings, dynamic adjustment of the bandwidth management policies on affected Access Controllers is enforced.

  • Patent number: 7558214
Abstract: A technique enables an intermediate network node to efficiently process link-state packets using a single running context (i.e., process or thread). The intermediate network node floods received link-state packets (LSP) before performing shortest path first (SPF) calculations and routing information base (RIB) updates. In addition, the node limits the number of LSPs that are permitted to be flooded before the node performs its SPF calculations. More specifically, if the number of link-state packets that are flooded during a flooding cycle exceeds a first predetermined threshold value, the node performs the SPF calculations before additional packets may be flooded. The intermediate network node also limits how long its RIB update may be delayed in favor of flooding operations. When the number of LSPs flooded after the SPF calculations exceeds a second predetermined threshold value or there are no more packets to be flooded, the node updates the contents of its RIB based on the SPF calculations.

  • Patent number: 7554925
Abstract: A test program creates a variety of types of quality of service messages to allow a user to test the response of one or more network devices to the variety of messages. The test program displays a representation of a quality of service message on a user interface. The representation may be implemented as a tree having a branch for each section of the quality of service message. Each branch may be expanded to reveal one or more values of one or more parameters stored in the represented section. By entering a value on the user interface, the user can change the value of a parameter in represented message. The test program also allows a user to intentionally create an invalid quality of service message, such as by inserting an invalid value into one or more fields, deleting one or more required values, adding one or more invalid sections, or by deleting one or more required sections. The test program also automatically creates one or more invalid sections at the request of the user.

  • Patent number: 7539172
Abstract: A method is provided for minimizing the peak power level in a combination of orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) tones. The method is particularly effective when the information to be communicated is digital data consisting of long patterns of “1”s or “0”s. The digital data of the message is combined with a scrambling vector before the data is modulated. The randomization of data patterns, in turn, leads to a more random combination of OFDM tone amplitude being transmitted. The message is recovered at the receiver by removing the scrambling vector. A table of scrambling vectors is maintained at the transmitters and receivers. The table pointer to select the scrambling vector is selected in response to the position of the message in the communication structure. An OFDM communication system using the above-described method is also provided.
