  • Patent number: 4445394
Abstract: A control lever arrangement (10) for longitudinally moving an actuating member such as a Bowden cable (11) between first and second positions. The arrangement includes first (13) and second (14) mutually inclined cam slots and a control lever (15) which has a handle at one end and which is pivotally mounted (20) at the other end on a follower (16) for engagement with the first cam slot. The lever (15) carries guidance means (17) for engagement with the second cam slot and is connected (21) with the actuations member (11), so that, as the control lever is rotated (X1,X2) about its mounting (20) on the follower (16) to move the actuating member between its first and second positions, the follower moves along the first (13) cam slot as the guidance means (17) moves along the second cam slot (14) and the point of contact of the follower (16) with the first slot (13) moves across the line of action (33) of the actuating member (11) so that the lever goes over-center.

  • Patent number: 4445398
Abstract: An improved unbalance compensator control in which the distribution of balance mass fluid is controlled by selective activation of thermal devices creating thermal differentials and ensuing balance mass fluid re-distribution for balance correction, and in which electrical power for the thermal devices is transmitted across an air gap separating stationary and rotating portions by means of the selective energizing of primary coils each of which has a corresponding confronting secondary coil associated therewith. Different geometries of coils are disclosed. In another embodiment a composite waveform containing power and signal components is conducted to the rotating portion by electro-mechanical contact arrangements at opposite axial ends of the machine on which the unbalance compensator is mounted.

  • Patent number: 4441380
Abstract: A foot-operated device for controlling a parking brake wherein a parking brake pedal is locked in its operated position through engagement of a pawl member with ratchet teeth. The pawl member is connected to a bracket pivotally supporting the pedal, and the ratchet teeth are formed on the pedal. The parking brake is released only when a pedal pad pivotally connected to the pedal is pivoted on the pedal and the pedal is depressed. Near the pawl member is disposed a lever pivotally connected to the bracket. The pedal, pedal pad, pawl member and lever are pivoted about respective axes which are parallel to one another. The pedal pad and the lever are connected by a connecting device which transmit a pivotal movement of the pedal pad to the lever such that a movement of said pedal pad incident to a pivotal movement of the pedal is not transferred to the lever.

  • Patent number: 4441381
Abstract: A locking and positioning apparatus for reclining seats including a back member pivotally connected to a seat member for movement between an upright position and various inclined positions. The locking and positioning apparatus includes first and second telescoping members innerconnected by a pair of gripping elements which are normally biased into frictional gripping engagement with one of the members for preventing relative movement between the members in either direction of travel between the members. A manually actuatable pivotal lever having portions disposed between the pair of gripping elements is provided for releasing the pair of gripping elements from gripping engagement with the one member for preventing relative movement between the members in either direction of travel.

  • Patent number: 4438659
Abstract: A release mechanism is provided ensuring simultaneous opening of the two clamps of a traction apparatus for freeing the cable which passes therethrough. The release lever is mounted for longitudinal sliding by actuation of the handle while moving the intermediate pin carried by the warping out lever. A pivoting bolt, mounted in a widened end of a longitudinal oblong slit of said lever, prevents the release movement. The release can only be obtained when the user frees said bolt with one hand against the return action of a spring and, with the other hand, operates simultaneously said handle.

  • Patent number: 4433595
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing precisely controlled micro-indexing of rotational elements utilizes a bidirectionally controllable linear force actuator in combination with a self-locking linkage mechanism to frictionally grip and to impart a pure turning moment to the rotational element. The method and apparatus disclosed are especially advantageous for use with large rotational elements, such as the rotors of gas turbines. The indexing method inserts a minimal amount of stored energy into a system thereby virtually eliminating overshoot. In a preferred embodiment comprised of a pair of symmetrical indexing sections, the desired micro-indexing is accomplished while imposing no additional loading on the rotational element.

  • Patent number: 4432253
Abstract: A dynamic balancing system for rotary elements wherein balance is maintained by remote control of mass distribution during rotation. A fluid balancing mass partially fills three or more annular chambers. A change in mass distribution is achieved by heating the fluid in a chamber and conducting the vapor so produced to the opposite chamber(s) where the vapor condenses. A warmer chamber thereby loses mass to a cooler chamber. Electronic vibration measuring means and control are generally employed to determine which chambers and what degree of heating are required to improve the state of balance. The preferred control is electronic and comprises a stationarily mounted encoding portion and rotationally mounted decoding portion. Power and encoded control signals are transmitted via inductively coupled coils from the encoding portion to the decoding portion.

  • Patent number: 4429589
Abstract: A dual ratio accelerator arm assembly is disclosed. The assembly provides a slow first throttle opening rate through a first arc of movement of the arm assembly and then a discrete change to a higher throttle opening rate through a second arc of movement of the arm that noticeably signals a higher fuel consumption. The assembly comprises an accelerator arm, a bracket supporting the arm for operable movement, a pair of pivot pins carried by the arm, and means in the bracket for defining at least one pair of first and second pivot pin receptacles. Each receptacle is associated with one of the pins, has a fulcrum segment, and is effective to allow limited movement of the pin therein. The first segment, with its fulcrum segment engaged by its associated pin, defines a force applying lever arm which is shorter than the force applying lever arm defined by the second receptacle with its associated pin in engagement with its fulcrum segment.

  • Patent number: 4422352
Abstract: A rotatable turret for bringing any selected one of a plurality of tool holders into operative position relative to a workpiece, is characterized in that the turret can be rotated in either direction so that it need follow only the shortest path between the location of the old tool holder and the location of the new tool holder when changing from tool to tool. For this purpose, the turret has a rotatable hub with a plurality of blocks on its periphery slidable relative thereto in directions parallel to the axis of rotation, into and out of slots on a fixed member, the location of the slots corresponding to the operative locations of the tool holders. The blocks are all secured to the keeper ring of an annular electromagnet, whose strength is sufficient to retain the keeper ring attracted when the blocks are out of the slots, but whose strength is insufficient to retain the keeper ring when the blocks are in the slots.

  • Patent number: 4420989
Abstract: A handlebar structure particularly adapted for use on motorcycles employed in racing over rough and uneven terrain. The grips and the angulation of first and second oppositely disposed cross members structures are manually adjustable to suit the riding characteristics of a particular rider. A combination of resilient pads and a fluid containing shock absorber cooperate to minimize the shock transmitted to the arms of a rider in traveling over a rough and uneven course. In an alternate form of the invention resilient cross members serve to minimize the shock transmitted to a rider as his motorcycle traverses an uneven course.

  • Patent number: 4419907
Abstract: A multiple mode control lever assembly includes a lever fixed for rotation with a disk rotatable on a central pivot in a housing. The disk includes detent recesses and carries a brake segment. A detent element is pivotal about a second pivot and carries a roller engageable with the detent recesses. A brake element is also pivotal about the second pivot and carries a brake shoe engageable with the brake segment. An index cam is rotatable on the central pivot to couple and uncouple the detent and friction elements from the disk. The index cam is rotated by a ratchet with a pawl reciprocated by a solenoid fixed in the housing. A centering spring continuously coupled between the housing and the disk urges the lever to a neutral position.
