The running surface includes a planing mode trailing edge and a pre-planing mode trailing edge. An aft running surface section of the hull includes port and starboard recesses that extend from a respective step at a forward end thereof aft to a respective aft edge thereof. The steps form the planing mode trailing edge where water disengages from the aft corners of the aft running surface section when the boat travels in planing mode and the aft edge of the recesses form the pre-planing mode trailing edge where water disengages from the aft corners of the aft running surface section when the boat travels in pre-planing mode.

A bump stop located between the swivel bracket and the drive unit limits deflection of the drive unit caused by loads that exceed the threshold. An outboard motor includes a transom bracket, a swivel bracket, a cradle, and a drive unit supported between first and second opposite arms of the cradle. First and second vibration isolation mounts connect the first and second cradle arms to the drive unit, respectively. An upper motion-limiting bump stop is located remotely from the vibration isolation mounts and between the swivel bracket and the drive unit.

The upstream side duct 42 includes an exhaust port 52 which is opened at its side face. The downstream side duct 43 includes a downstream side lower duct 59 and a downstream side upper duct 60. In the downstream side lower duct 59, a suction port 61 is provided at a position opposed to the exhaust port 52 and separately at a predetermined distance from the exhaust port 52. In the downstream side upper duct 60, an exhaust port formed toward a throttle body 36 of the engine 14 is provided above the downstream side lower duct 59. The upstream side duct 42 and the downstream side duct 43 are formed so as not to interfere with each other when the engine upper cover 27 is moved vertically.
