  • Patent number: 5234192
Abstract: A rotational control device for the setting of angles in actuators, in particular of a restricting device used for determining the flow cross-section in a flow line for internal combustion engines, has an electrical setting motor with a two-pole status and a two-pole permanent magnet rotor. To obtain a robust setting motor, which is technically easy to manufacture in a compact construction, the stator poles are designed as claw poles and the stator winding is located as a toroidal coil in a ring space formed by the claw poles and a ring casing which is coaxial with these, for the magnetic return path. The stator winding is energized by a d.c. supply, with reversible current direction. The magnetic resistances in the magnetic return path and across the claw poles are calibrated such that in the event of a currentless stator winding, the permanent magnet rotor engages in the pole gaps between the claw poles.

  • Patent number: 5232198
Abstract: A rotary actuated valve choke or the like is remotely controlled by motor means fixedly mounted with respect to said valve to rotationally drive a stem thereof. Monitoring means measure the rotation of the motor and/or its associated drive train. • Patent number: 5232197
Abstract: A control device for the control of an opening cross-sectional area of a flow duct, in particular for internal combustion engines, comprising three sub-assemblies, an actuator housing with flow channel and setting window, a rotor with a rotary valve for controlling the window opening, and a drive housing with stator and stator winding. For setting a required air gap between the rotary valve and the setting window, a control section of the rotary valve covering the setting window is designed as a cone envelope segment, and is inclined at an acute angle to the rotor axis. The window lying in a cone envelope plane is located at the same angle of inclination. By means of a spacing disk between the rotor, with the rotary valve affixed thereon, and the actuator housing, the air gap is set and fixed as required.

  • Patent number: 5232196
Abstract: A proportional solenoid-controlled valve provides for precise control of fluid flow using a flat spring and a damper. The flat spring is three-lobed and is constrained on its outer diameter in one of six degrees of freedom. The damper has three outer lobes which are compressed between the armature assembly and the valve body. A spring-loaded seal configuration having an annular elastomer seal compensates for dimensional instability of the elastomeric seal material and the armature assembly.

  • Patent number: 5230367
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to fluid flow control valves and more particularly to orifice assemblies of the type which are continuously adjustable wherein a high pressure reduction is divided into multiple smaller pressure drops to reduce total audible noise generation, flow is divided into multiple paths of small dimensions to reduce total audible noise level, suppress the low frequency audible noise levels, disperse the audible noise over a wider spectrum to avoid intense peaks, cavitation and erosion damage to the valve are reduced without the need for expensive special materials, pressure reduction is achieved by adaptive reduction in area as well as friction resulting efficient use of energy, the actuator energy and force requirements are low due to force balancing design, yet the valve is energy efficient and fast.

  • Patent number: 5224650
Abstract: A fireplace furnace heating system for a structure having a firebox for combustion of fuel, preferably coal. A heating unit is disposed proximately to, and preferably surrounds the firebox. Conduits carry interior air from remote locations to the heating unit. The heating unit is preferably a multi-walled, chambered structure to define numerous air passageways. Air delivered from the conduits to the heating unit must travel through the air passageways. The proximate disposition of the heating unit to the firebox heats the heating unit and the air travelling therethrough. The heating unit has vents for returning the heated air to the interior of the structure. A blower is included for forcible moving the air through the heating unit and back to the interior. Conduits are also provided for supplying fresh air from the exterior to the firebox to fully combust fuel in the firebox. A motorized blower is included to forcibly move the combustion air. Also included is a tempering tank for storing water.

  • Patent number: 5222713
Abstract: A solid state apparatus for regulating the flow of fluids in general, and natural gas, in particular, is provided. The solid state apparatus includes an actuator made of electrostrictive, magnetostrictive or piezoelectric material. The actuator displaces upon application of an electric field to vary the compression on an elastomer having an orifice, thereby varying the amount of elastomeric material extruded into the orifice. Fluid flow through the regulator is thereby controlled. A system for regulating the flow of gas integrates the regulator with a sensor to detect a gas characteristic, such as gas partial pressure, and send control signals to control the operation of the regulator. The solid-state gas regulator is capable of low cost production and operation and suitable for electronic feedback control.

  • Patent number: 5218998
Abstract: A linearly adjustable fluid damper of the sliding plate adjustable orifice type damper system having a fixed flat plate with a plurality of specifically arranged trapezoidal shaped apertures therethrough, and a slideably adjustable flat plate also having a plurality of specifically arranged trapezoidal shaped apertures therethrough. The sliding plate is juxtaposed the fixed plate such that apertures of the sliding plate overlap apertures of the fixed plate, and aperture orientation of the sliding plate is reversed that of the orientation of the apertures on the fixed plate. The area of the resultant hexagonal composite orifice through both plates varies non-linearly from full open position to full closed position throughout movement of the sliding plate. The result is that fluid flow from zero fluid flow to maximum fluid flow through the resultant orifice is a straight line relationship with linear displacement of the sliding plate.

  • Patent number: 5219403
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system of adjustable preformed ductwork for the conveyance of a fluid. The system uses a distribution box which includes an upper portion having a plurality of walls and a bottom plate. The distribution box may act either as a diffuser boot or as a splitter box. The distribution box is joined to interconnecting duct lines by adaptor conduits. • Patent number: 5217043
Abstract: The valve has a casing with inlet and outlet ports, and a valve opening bordered by a valve seat communicating the ports. A flexible diaphragm defines a control chamber and a pressure chamber on opposite sides thereof and moves between an open position clear of the seat, and a closed position against the seat. The valve seat is within the pressure chamber, and the diaphragm is normally urged closed. A flexible bellows extends between and is sealed to the diaphragm and the casing on a side of the diaphragm remote from the seat. The bellows provides a bellows chamber isolated from the control chamber to enclose an effective area of the diaphragm generally equal to the valve opening of the valve seat. The diaphragm has an orifice providing limited communication between the control and pressure chambers and having a size sufficient to reduce fluid flow between the chambers to reduce diaphragm speed and thus chances of hydraulic hammer.
