  • Patent number: 4466741
Abstract: A mixing element for a motionless mixer comprises a passage tube through which fluids flow and a helical blade formed in the passage tube so as to be integral therewith. The interior of the passage tube is partitioned by the blade to form a plurality of fluid passages. The blade extends from one end of the passage tube to the other in the longitudinal direction of the passage tube to be twisted helically clockwise (right-handed) or counterclockwise (left-handed). The corner portions of the fluid passages are rounded. The end edges of the blade are curved in the direction of the thickness and rounded. The motionless mixer is formed by alternately and longitudinally coupling right- and left-handed rotation type mixing elements. The mixing elements are so arranged that the facing end edges of the blades of each two adjacent mixing elements cross at right angles.

  • Patent number: 4464981
Abstract: A beverage making appliance operable automatically or manually, and also providing a hot water faucet. The appliance has a cold water basin located over a hot water tank with a cold water tube extending down into the hot water tank from a basin drain opening whereby cold water discharges into the lower portion of the hot water tank and displaces hot water either through a faucet, or a spray head onto the contents of a brew funnel. When operated in its automatic mode, cold water is delivered to the basin through a conduit connected with a supply of cold water under pressure. The conduit has both flow control and solenoid valves whereby a predetermined volume of cold water is delivered on each actuation of a timer. A level control circuit, together with a water level sensing probe disposed within the hot water tank, also actuates the solenoid valve to maintain a predetermined water level in the tank as hot water is drawn through the faucet.

  • Patent number: 4465377
Abstract: A magnetic stirrer apparatus includes a vessel for liquid and a floating stirrer. The floating stirrer is rotated by a magnet driven by a magnetic field generator laterally of the vessel, and a guide rod through the floating stirrer restricts its movement to rotary movement and substantially vertical movement with change in the liquid level. The magnetic field generator is operative at any level of the liquid in the vessel.

  • Patent number: 4464056
Abstract: A mixing head for two reactive components forms a mixture in a mixing chamber when a control plunger is retracted, the mixture passing into a channel at right angles to the mixing chamber. A second plunger in the channel is partially retracted so that its free end is positioned in line with the opening to form a partial obstruction around which the mixture is formed. Then the second plunger is retracted to allow clearing of residues, and advanced to drive residues from the channel.

  • Patent number: 4464162
Abstract: A centrifugal separator having a rotary bowl for receiving feed which forms a pool within the bowl a skimmer movably mounted to fixed structure within the bowl for removing liquid from the pool to a discharge system with an outlet external to the bowl, and adjustment means operable from outside the bowl for adjustably moving the skimmer oppositely toward and away from the bowl axis to vary the pool depth. However, in accordance with the invention, the skimmer adjustment means includes skimmer mounting means movably connecting the skimmer to the fixed structure within the bowl so as to enable adjustment movements thereof by the adjustment means and so that the hydraulic thrust of the pool liquid against the skimmer is applied by the mounting means substantially entirely to the fixed structure. Preferably, the adjustment movement of the skimmer enabled by the mounting means are essentially radial only to the axis of the bowl, thus greatly reducing the amount of adjustment movement required.

  • Patent number: 4462691
Abstract: An extruder, including a rotor and a barrel, having mixing or working zones therein in which the material being mixed or worked is transferred layer by layer from upstream grooves in the rotor to input grooves in the barrel, and from output grooves in the barrel, which grooves are interleaved with the input grooves, layer by layer back to downstream grooves in the rotor. The input and output grooves of the barrel are intercommunicated by means of corresponding channels each of which has a selectively radially movable throttling member positioned therein for varying the cross-sectional opening of the channel in which it is positioned and, thus, the amount of shearing action and work performed on the material passing through such channel.

  • Patent number: 4460279
Abstract: A liquid pitcher has an integral mixer system/stirrer assembly for mixing liquids directly in the pitcher without shaking or spilling. The pitcher includes a pitcher container and a cover. The mixer itself includes one or more mixing elements mounted on a shaft that extends through an opening in the cover, on the one hand, to position and to permit positioning of the mixing element in the pitcher and, on the other hand, to help fix the shaft at a location relative to the cover and pitcher when the cover is properly placed on the pitcher. Importantly, a handle attached to the shaft outside the pitcher, when the cover is installed thereon, cooperates with the opening that secures the shaft in position and with a mating rim about the cover to guide the handle during such rotation to assure proper positioning of the shaft and mixing element and to avoid excessive wearing of various portions of the assembly during mixing operation.
