  • Patent number: 3978780
Abstract: A cooking utensil comprising a receptacle for batter and a pumping member at least partially in the receptacle. The receptacle has a bottom wall and an open top and the pumping member is mounted for movement toward and away from the bottom wall. A heater having a cooking surface can be received in the receptacle through the open top. The heater is coupled to the pumping member so that the heater drives the pumping member toward the bottom wall as the heater is moved toward the bottom wall. This elevates the batter in the receptacle toward the heater.

  • Patent number: 3978779
Abstract: An apparatus for preparing edible products having a cylindrical shell of coagulated egg-white enclosing a central core. The apparatus has a plurality of cylindrical moulds moving cyclically in a closed path including stations in which raw materials are supplied and stations in which the finished products are withdrawn from the mould. Each mould is provided with a vertically displaceable bottom plug, which is pushed upwards to permit withdrawal of the finished product. It is subsequently pushed to the bottom of the mould by means of a rod carrying a pad for applying a metered amount of a lubricating agent onto the mould surface before a core member is inserted in the mould and the raw materials are supplied. Means are provided for cleaning the mould wall during the upward movement of the bottom plug.

  • Patent number: 3975997
Abstract: The invention is an improvement on the deep fat fryer disclosed in my U.S. Pat. No. 3,430,553, which shows a food basket movable between a cooking position in which the food is immersed in shortening and a tilted drain position, and an impervious tray moving with the basket for collecting particles so that when the basket and tray are tilted, the shortening and particles will be drained therefrom into a filter basket. The improvement comprises a perforated wall attached to the tray and extending thereabove so that when the tray and basket are lifted above the shortening, the particles will be prevented from going sideways over the edges of the tray into the pot or frying vessel.

  • Patent number: 3975998
Abstract: A pancake-making machine (for baking French-type pancakes or "crepes") has a drum rotatable by a drive motor via heat-resistant synthetic-resin gears on its ends. A transfer roller carried on a batter trough is displaceable toward and away from the drum by a handle which controls the drive motor to arrest both the drum and the transfer roller when the two are pulled apart. The transfer roller forms a layer of batter on the drum which is heated by an internal electric heating element supplied with current through axially extending copper sleeves at its ends. The handle is a bent wire pivoted at each end in a slot in the machine housing and latchingly engageable against the displaceable trough. A thermistor imbedded in the drum adjacent the surface thereof is connected via an electronic circuit to a triac in series with the heating element to control the drum heating. A wire stretched tight between two support arms serves to strip the baked pancake from the drum.

  • Patent number: 3974758
Abstract: A "pot life" of a quantity of coffee is substantially extended by materially reducing surface area exposure to atmosphere. In the case of a conventional pour type coffee maker this is effected by isolating the main body of reservoir contained coffee from atmosphere by sealingly engaging a movable follower with respect to the reservoir to isolate the same from atmosphere while permitting pour dispensing of the coffee from a conventional pour spout of small cross-sectional area as compared to the cross-sectional area of the reservoir. The relatively small volume of coffee in the pour spout exhibits only a small surface area exposure to atmosphere and acts, in effect, as a liquid seal which, in cooperation with the movable follower, isolates the reservoir contained coffee from atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 3972275
Abstract: Method for roasting meat in a cooking chamber includes the steps of precooking the meat at an ambient temperature within the range of 230.degree. to 270.degree.C, and then finish-cooking the meat at a temperature within the range of 75.degree. to 90.degree.C, the precooking and the finish cooking being effected, independently of the weight and type of meat and independently of whether the meat be frozen, fresh or defrosted, during respective time intervals of which the total constitutes a constant minimum preparation time within the range of 21/2 to 5 hours.A corresponding accessory apparatus for an oven includes a timing member for determining the time for switching the oven from the precooking condition to the finish cooking condition. An indicator having respective weight scales corresponding to different kinds of meat is coupled with a selector and the timing member for setting the latter to correspond to the weight and type of meat to be cooked.

  • Patent number: 3972273
Abstract: A valve assembly with a water dispersing and spreading system preferrable for use in drip-type beverage maker comprising a housing having a passage extending therethrough with the passage having an inlet, an outlet, and a valve seat therebetween. A thermostatic dish-shaped snap-acting bimetallic disk constitutes the valve member and is positioned in the passage in engagement with the valve seat thereby to block communication through the passage while in the first curvature position and while in the second curvature position to move clear of the valve seat to permit the flow of fluid therepast. The disk is movable from the first curvature position to the second and back again upon changes in temperature of the disk. A spring member biases the disk toward the valve seat in sealing engagement when the disk is in its first curvature position.
