Abstract: A wireless communication apparatus is capable of improving communication efficiency by reducing the amount of control information transmitted. A channel quality information extraction section extracts CQI's from a received signal. An allocation control section allocates subcarriers for every communication terminal apparatus and selects a modulation scheme in such a manner that required transmission rate is satisfied for each communication terminal apparatus based on required transmission rate information, etc. and CQI's for communication terminal apparatus of each user. A required subcarrier number determining section decides the number of subcarriers allocated to every communication terminal apparatus so as to satisfy the required transmission rate for each communication terminal apparatus. A required subcarrier number information generating section generates information for the number of subcarriers allocated to every communication terminal apparatus.

  • Patent number: 9553709
Abstract: A method and an apparatus is provided for conducting wireless data communications using whitespace and non-whitespace channels. A short-range base station with an interface for whitespace channels and another interface for non-whitespace channels communicates with user equipment outfitted with equivalent interfaces. The short-range base station has a preference for using the interface for the whitespace channels, where the whitespace channels are whitespace spectrum bands that are available during periods when a primary user is not actively utilizing the whitespace. A spectrum server analyzes spectrum occupancy database information and whitespace spectrum sensing measurements to determine lists of available whitespace spectrum bands for use by the short-range base station.

  • Patent number: 9538452
Abstract: A method includes collecting physical layer and data layer connectivity information from a plurality of wide area networks using a plurality of mobile devices independently of the wide area networks. A server receives the physical layer and data layer connectivity information, relates the connectivity information to specific wide area networks and to a plurality of geographic locations to create a network statistics database. The server also receives mobile device state information including mobile device location information and predicts that connectivity for a specific mobile device will fall below acceptable criteria based on the network statistics database. The server generates a list of candidate donor mobile devices to serve as data connection sources for the specific mobile device based on the network connectivity information and the mobile device state information and selects a donor device from the list of candidate donor devices based on a weighting algorithm.

  • Patent number: 9479440
Abstract: Systems and methods can provide for specifying and enforcing IPv4 and IPv6 CPE limits in a modem device. In some implementations, such systems and methods can inspect a packet originating from CPEs behind a modem to determine whether the packet is an IPv4 or IPv6 packet. Such systems and methods can compare the packet source MAC address to determine whether the address exists in the IPv4 and/or IPv6 CPE tables. The modem can then perform varying actions based on IPv4 or IPv6 CPE limit enforcement mechanisms, thereby alleviating the problem of a single CPE limit enforcement policy for all CPEs.

  • Patent number: 9386548
Abstract: A base station apparatus includes a wireless communication unit, a wired communication unit, and a communication timing correction unit. If the wireless communication unit fails to receive a synchronization signal from another base station apparatus at given reception timing, the wired communication unit transmits a synchronization state confirmation signal for confirming a synchronization state between the base station and another base station apparatus, and receives a synchronization state response signal including a determination result of the synchronization state. The communication timing correction unit corrects a communication timing based on the synchronization state response signal.

  • Patent number: 9386571
Abstract: In accordance with some embodiments, a new discontinuous reception (DRX) parameter change may be received in user equipment while the user equipment is using an existing DRX parameter. The user equipment continues to use the existing parameter and determines when a new discontinuous reception cycle is starting. The change to the next discontinuous reception parameter is implemented in the new discontinuous reception cycle. In some embodiments by having an agreed upon time to implement the change to the new parameter, signaling between an enhanced node B and user equipment may be reduced. Signaling overhead is a serious impediment to achieving high efficiency in wireless communications.

  • Patent number: 9301295
Abstract: In a wireless communication network, a network control system receives a request for a media session with a wireless communication device. The control system responsively determines if the wireless device is idle and determines if a source base station serving the wireless device can support the media session. If the wireless device is idle and the source base station does not support the media session, then the control system identifies a target base station to support the media session. The control system transfers a first redirect message for delivery to the wireless device through the source base station and transfers a second redirect message for delivery to the target base station. The redirect messages have session information for the media session. The target base station receives an acceptance of the media session from the wireless device and exchanges media for the media session responsive to the acceptance.
