  • Patent number: 9397384
Abstract: A near field communications (NFC) device is disclosed that interacts with other NFC devices to exchange information and/or the data. An operator may touch, or be sufficiently proximate to, an antenna module of the NFC device to operate and/or control the NFC device. The antenna module includes antenna components that are characterized by a corresponding characteristic impedance. The touch, or sufficient proximity, of the operator changes the corresponding characteristic impedance of antenna components. The NFC device may determine a location of the touch, or proximity, of the operator based upon this change. The NFC device may interpret the location of the touch, or proximity, of the operator as information from the operator to operate and/or control the NFC device.

  • Patent number: 9337940
Abstract: A second-order intermodulation distortion calibration apparatus is provided. The calibration apparatus is applied to a radio-frequency (RF) transceiver, which includes a transmitter for providing an RF signal, and a receiver that is at the same time a target to be calibrated. The calibration apparatus includes a calibrator. The calibrator utilizes a logic circuit in the transmitter to generate two modulation signals having different frequencies, and utilizes two transmission paths to up-convert and combine the two modulation signals to an RF transmission signal. The calibrator further channels the RF transmission signal to the receiver to accordingly adjust second-order non-linear behaviors of the receiver and to detect a signal strength of a second-order crossover component caused by the receiver due to the second-order non-linearity. After the calibration process, the calibrator provides a control signal to minimize the signal strength of the second-order crossover component.

  • Patent number: 9294160
Abstract: Techniques for supporting distributed MIMO are described. For multi-user distributed MIMO, a cell directs its transmit power toward a UE while reducing interference to UE(s) in neighbor cell(s). For single-user distributed MIMO, multiple cells concurrently send transmissions to a UE. In an aspect, a UE sends channel estimates for serving and non-serving cells to support multi-user distributed MIMO. Each cell may use the channel estimates to select UEs for data transmission and determine precoding vectors to use for data transmission to the selected UEs. In another aspect, a UE sends CQI information for serving and non-serving cells to support single-user distributed MIMO. Each cell may use the CQI information to select UEs for data transmission and determine modulation and coding schemes to use for the selected UEs. In yet another aspect, a UE determines CQI information for a serving cell by taking into account interference nulling by non-serving cells.

  • Patent number: 9287915
Abstract: An antenna or set of antennae for a wireless device is provided by embedding the antennae into the battery case or generally the surface area of a wireless phone. The antenna connections are through the battery's connections to the wireless device. The antenna can be located at the back surface of the battery or the rear surface of a wireless phone, facing away from the user. An RF shielding device can be embedded into the battery and configured in relation to the antenna such that the RF field intensity and the consequent specific absorption rate for the user is lowered while the outgoing signals of the wireless device remain fully adequate for the function of the wireless device. This feature is preserved for a multi-band operation because a digital phase shifter is used between two radiating antennae. An external case is used as a complement to the wireless phone.
