Abstract: Systems and methods for presenting managed data from one or more applications are invented and disclosed. A data storage management system comprises a data store, a data storage manager, and a graphical user interface. The data storage manager is communicatively coupled to the data store and configured to allocate and use logical and physical storage elements of the data store via an application instance. The graphical user interface exposes data storage in application specific storage units. A method for managing data comprises coupling a data store to one or more applications, allocating storage on the data store in accordance with respective storage requirements expressed as an application instance associated with each of the one or more applications, and using a graphical user interface to expose the data store in application storage units associated with the one or more applications.

Abstract: A visual display interface is provided that comprises an associated display icon. The display icon is dragged across the visual display interface in a movement so as to cause the mixing of a plurality of media streams. The output is a new mix of the various media streams.

Abstract: A system for navigating among resources includes a target detection module detecting whether a first resource has been branched from to two other different resources and a backward navigation module operable to detect selection of a backward navigation button and cause navigation to the first resource. A method includes designating a target resource accessible via a backward navigation button in a first browser session, detecting selection of the backward navigation button in a second browser session, and navigating to the target resource in the second browser session. The method can involve detecting hovering of a pointer icon over the backward navigation button and responsively presenting a thumbnail of a resource associated with the backward navigation button.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for dynamically generating an HTML-based information help system. The information help system provides a user with a table of contents of the information that is currently available on the system. The table of contents is generated by scanning specific files for meta-tag information. The gathered information is merged with pre-defined HTML template files that control the formatting and presentation of the information. The resulting table of contents which is provided to the user accurately reflects the current content of the information system. By dynamically generating the table of contents for the information help system, the present invention allows authors to add, remove, and change individual components of the system while ensuring that users are presented with an accurate and complete list of the information available for use.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for helping a user to locate new information displayed in a window on a computer display after scrolling the window to a new portion of a document by providing temporary visual clues distinguishing “old” information, also displayed in the window before scrolling, from information not displayed in the window before scrolling. The visual clues are displayed only if the “old” information is displayed in the window before scrolling for more than a predetermined amount of time. According to preferred embodiments the temporary visual clues are implemented to avoid user distraction from his or her main task.

Abstract: A system for designing light and sound systems for use in stage productions. Virtual reality interfaces facilitate the selection and location of lighting and sound displays by providing a real-time simulation of the devices and the display produced thereby. The system also calculates parameters with respect to structural elements used for mounting the lighting and sound equipment. In addition, the virtual reality interface permits the simulation of the packing of the lighting and sound equipment and the automatic calculation of parameters relating to packing space, package weight, preferred location, and order of packing.

Abstract: A method and system is provided for testing and analyzing websites via a test-enabled web browser. In the representative embodiment a user controls a test-enabled web browser via a set of pull-down menus, thereby choosing between alternative testing and analysis functional capabilities, selecting files in which to store recordings (scripts), choosing files into which to place test results and messages, and setting various parameters that affect how the testing and analysis functions are performed.

Abstract: A technology enabling a developer to configure a graphical user interface (GUI) such that only a subset of the inputs contained in the GUI will be processed, depending on the user's interaction with the GUI. The configuration identifies one or more logical units known as virtual forms, with each virtual form identifying zero or more input components from the GUI that are said to participate in the virtual form, and one or more submission components from the GUI that are said to submit the virtual form, such that when a user interacts in some particular way with (e.g., clicks) a component that submits a virtual form, only the inputs that participate in that virtual form are processed while other inputs in the GUI are not processed.

Abstract: A system and method for controlling media through a user interface integrated within a taskbar is described. This system and method enable a user to control media while a user interface of another application remains in perspective. Further, this system includes a taskbar media player, which can play media and enable a user to control the play of that media from within a taskbar.

Abstract: A system and method for providing managed point-to-point services are disclosed. In one embodiment of a system incorporating teachings of the present disclosure, a services management center may be capable of receiving a request for connection to a video content source. A requesting user may be part of one managed network and the content source may be part of another network. The content source may be able output an information stream. In operation, the center may determine an address for the video content source and initiate the formation of at least a portion of a point-to-point communication link between the requesting user and the video content source. In some embodiments, the center may be able to track a metric associated with communication of the information stream and may generate a billing record at least partially based upon the metric.

Abstract: A method and system for providing an easily recognizable visual feedback to a user in a multi-parameter aircraft instrument display, such as a flat panel display, of manually induced variations in individually selected manually adjustable data associated with a selected one of a plurality of displayable parameters in a simultaneous display of these parameters. The method and system provides visual confirmation of the parameter being manually varied in response to such manual variations by enlarging the display of the selected parameter, such as by zooming out the displayed image of the selected parameter to between two and four times its normal size in response to the manual variation of this parameter, and returns the image size to its original size, such as by zooming in, in response to a cessation in the manual adjustments by the user of the associated dimensional data, such as within a predetermined interval after such cessation, such as two to four seconds thereafter.

Abstract: A system, method, computer program and system for suspending a result set and continuing from a suspended result set for a scrollable cursor is disclosed. The rows from a row source corresponding to the scrollable cursor result set are suspended into storage so that when a fetch is requested the data can be sent (continued) from the suspended storage and does not depend on the original scrollable cursor row source or session to be available.

Abstract: Input is provided to an application using a plurality of physical objects disposed adjacent to an interactive display surface. A primary location is determined where a primary physical object, e.g., a finger or thumb of the user, is positioned adjacent to the interactive display surface. An additional location is determined where an additional physical object is positioned adjacent to the interactive display surface. The attribute might be a size of an image or selected portion of the image that will be retained after cropping. A change in position of at least one of the objects is detected, and the attribute is adjusted based on the change in position of one or both objects. A range of selectable options of the application can also be display by touching the interactive display surface with one's fingers or other objects, and one of the options can be selected with another object.

Abstract: A musical keyboard is connected to a computer. The computer implements a graphical user interface for teaching users to play the musical instrument. A computer readable music file, such as a MIDI file, is used to drive the creation of game objects that travel from a point of origination along a path toward a key of a virtual keyboard. In one form, when a user presses a key of the musical keyboard within a certain time window of arrival of the game object at the corresponding key of the virtual keyboard, the user is awarded with an audio presentation, a visual presentation and/or with game points. In a more structured learning mode, the game can be played with selectable, progressively more difficult challenges that the user masters on the road to proficiency.

Abstract: A system for providing a user interface includes a first element tag and a second element tag. The first element tag specifies a first element that is associated with a class of connectable elements and includes a first order indicator that specifies an order of the first element. The second element tag specifies a second element that is associated with the class of connectable elements such that the first element and the second element can be connected. The second element tag includes a second order indicator that specifies an order of the second element. The order of the first element and the second element are related such that, when the first element and the second element are connected, the first element remains connected to the second element when the second element is moved, and the first element is separated from the second element when the first element is moved.

Abstract: In a service providing system, a live-distribution service for live-distributing contents supplied according to a reservation, and a chat service for providing the use of a chat space corresponding to the reservation for the live distribution are provided. When a personal computer and another personal computer use the live-distribution service and the chat service, they need to be authenticated by a streaming server and a communication server. For authentication, both the streaming server and the communication server use a shared password registered in a reservation data base when the live distribution is reserved.
