  • Patent number: 9363518
Abstract: Systems and methods for multimedia encoding and decoding are disclosed. The systems and methods include multimedia format detection systems, decoder functionality generation systems, decoder instantiation systems, and multimedia processing engines which are capable of selecting a decoder or playback mechanism for each input encoded multimedia stream. The functionality of the decoder or playback mechanism is represented as syntax elements which may be further encoded. The functionality for decoding or playback is then stored or transmitted with the multimedia bitstream. Alternatively, the functionality and multimedia bitstream can be embedded in or associated with a second digital bitstream. Further, the functionality associated with an encoded multimedia stream can be used to instantiate a decoder or playback mechanism and the encoded multimedia stream decoded with the instantiated decoder or mechanism.

  • Patent number: 9357230
Abstract: Overlapped block disparity estimation and compensation is described. Compensating for images with overlapped block disparity compensation (OBDC) involves determining if OBDC is enabled in a video bit stream, and determining if OBDC is enabled for one or more macroblocks that neighbor a first macroblock within the video bit stream. The neighboring macroblocks may be transform coded. If OBDC is enabled in the video bit stream and for the one or more neighboring macroblocks, predictions may be made for a region of the first macroblock that has an edge adjacent with the neighboring macroblocks. OBDC can be causally applied. Disparity compensation parameters or modes may be shared amongst views or layers. A variety of predictions may be used with causally-applied OBDC.

  • Patent number: 9338425
Abstract: A rotation angle obtaining unit obtains an angle by which a stereoscopic image of a subject is to be rotated around a line-of-sight direction. A multi-viewpoint image accumulation unit accumulates a plurality of images of the subject obtained in one direction by changing capturing positions, as multi-viewpoint images. A selection unit selects base images for the stereoscopic image from the multi-viewpoint images accumulated in the multi-viewpoint image accumulation unit, based on the rotation angle. A rotation unit rotates the selected base images based on the rotation angle to generate images which are to form the stereoscopic image of the subject.

  • Patent number: 9323975
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of determining a representation of a fingerprint pattern. The method comprises the steps of acquiring a reference signal indicative of an electric coupling between a hand surface having friction ridges and a reference sensing structure extending across a plurality of the friction ridges; and determining the representation of the fingerprint pattern based on the reference signal and a capacitive coupling between the finger and each of a plurality of sensing elements. The acquired reference signal can, for example, be used for controlling the sensing elements so that the sensing performed by the sensing elements is carried out using favorable timing, when the signal quality is good. Alternatively, or in combination, the acquired reference signal may be used for post-processing, whereby the signals/signal values obtained by the sensing elements are modified depending on the corresponding values of the reference signal.

  • Patent number: 9292937
Abstract: A non-keyframe reconstruction technique is described for selecting and reconstructing keyframes that have not yet been included in a reconstruction of an input image sequence to provide a better reconstruction in a structure from motion (SFM) technique. The technique may, for example, be used in an adaptive reconstruction algorithm implemented by a general SFM technique. This technique may add and reconstruct non-keyframes to a set of keyframes already generated by an initialization technique and reconstructed by adaptive and optimization techniques for iteratively selecting and reconstructing additional keyframes. Camera motion and intrinsic parameters may be computed for non-keyframes by optimizing a cost function. Output of the non-keyframe reconstruction technique may include at least camera intrinsic parameters and Euclidean motion parameters for the images in the input image sequence.

  • Patent number: 9286720
Abstract: An exemplary system and method are disclosed for providing a combined video stream with geospatial information. Embodiments use a visualization tool to synchronize information in a virtual camera with attributes, such as video frames, from a physical camera. Once the camera position information is supplied to the visualization tool, the visualization tool retrieves geospatial data, such as terrain features, man made features, and time sensitive event data, and transforms the camera position information into a coordinate system of the virtual camera. The visualization tool uses the coordinate system of the virtual camera to generate geospatial snapshots. Embodiments use locative video software to combine the video frames from the physical camera with the geospatial snapshots from the virtual camera to generate a combined video stream, which provides a single view of multiple types of data to enhance an operator's ability to conduct surveillance and analysis missions.
