Abstract: A system and method for communicating content data to an in-vehicle system includes the in-vehicle infotainment system detecting a home local area network and joining the home local area network. The home local area network comprises a set top box. The in-vehicle infotainment system communicates a data request to the set top box in response to joining the local area network. The set top box communicates data corresponding to the request to the in-vehicle infotainment system through the local area network. The in-vehicle system stores the data at the in-vehicle infotainment system.

Abstract: The present invention relates generally to video communication systems, and more specifically to a method and device for adjusting properties of a graphical overlay for a video stream, the adjusted properties being at least one of a position, a degree of animation and a color composition of the graphical overlay and the adjustment is based on a scene depicted by the time period of the video stream. The adjustment is performed if an estimated bitrate for transmitting an encoded bitstream comprising the time period of the video stream and the graphical overlay exceeds a predetermined upper threshold bitrate for transmitting an encoded single bitstream comprising the time period of the video stream and the graphical overlay.

Abstract: A system and method are provided that allow the presentation of content to multiple users while some or all of the users communicate with one another through a network. In some embodiments, a content item such as a movie is viewed synchronously by multiple users while the users interact through, e.g., instant messaging. A viewing event may be arranged with users receiving invitations, responding to the invitations, and receiving reminders about the viewing event. The viewing event allows for contests to be conducted between the users. The users may be charged fees to participate in the viewing event. Items for sale may be offered to the users, such as a copy of the content item.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing a supervisor such as a parent or guardian with a way to monitor and control the delivery of content, e.g., video and audio programs, to users of devices within a home. Exemplary embodiments include methods and apparatus for operating a home network monitoring device located in a home including detecting delivery of content to one or more users in the home, storing, in the home, portions of content delivered to a first user, presenting some of the stored portions of content to a person responsible for setting content restrictions applicable to the first user, and subjecting further content delivery to the first user via the home network to restrictions established by the person responsible for setting content restrictions applicable to the first user. Some embodiments also detect and report potential attacks, e.g., cyber attacks, on the home network.

The method includes: obtaining, according to the page address of a first video page, page source code of the first video page and video processing rules corresponding to the first video page, the first video page corresponding to the first video; obtaining from the page source code, according to the page source code of the first video page and the video processing rules corresponding to the first video page, video playback information of the first video. The method obtains, by using preset video processing rules, video playback information from a video playback page and associated with a video. Further, video can be played directly without entering a video playback page.

Abstract: Techniques to coordinate ambient media detection are disclosed. A request to become active in performing media detection processing with respect to the audio environment is received from a first ambient media detection agent associated with an audio environment. A response denying the request is sent to the first ambient media detection agent if it is determined that a second ambient media detection agent associated with the audio environment currently is active in performing media detection processing with respect to the audio environment.

Abstract: Methods and systems to release network bandwidth for a new video stream. One method includes the following steps: receiving, by a first real-time video encoder (RT-VE), a first incoming high-definition uncompressed video (HD-UV), compressing it into a first compressed video using a first low compression ratio, and sending it over a first network path to a first real-time video decoder (RT-VD). Extracting, by the first RT-VD, an outgoing HD-UV from the first compressed video. Inferring that after establishing the first network path, and as a result of insufficient bandwidth on a common link comprised in the first network path, a second RT-VE cannot send a second compressed video to a second RT-VD over a second network path that includes the common link. And Increasing on-the-fly the first compression ratio in proportion to the insufficient bandwidth, in a manner that is visually lossless for a human viewing the outgoing HD-UV.

Abstract: Techniques for generating multimedia feed based on customer specific application software running on customer datacenters and/or cloud are described. In one example embodiment, a request to dynamically render multimedia feed associated with the customer specific application software is received via a user's multimedia device. The user's privileges are then verified by mapping the user to a defined one of roles. The customer relevant data is then obtained using news feed plug-ins based on the outcome of verified user's privileges. A three-dimensional (3D) multimedia feed is then generated by compiling the obtained customer relevant data. The three-dimensional (3D) multimedia feed is then dynamically rendered to the user's multimedia device.

Abstract: Determining audience engagement may be provided. First, an image may be received and a plurality of faces may be identified in the received image. Then position data and head pose data for each of the plurality of faces in the received image may be determined. Next, the plurality of faces may be separated into a plurality of clusters based upon the determined position data for each of the plurality of faces in the received image. For each of the plurality of clusters, a plurality of bins may be created where each bin corresponds to a non-overlapping range between a maximum pose data value and a minimum pose data value. Next, a bin count may be determined for each of the plurality of bins in each of the plurality of clusters and then an engagement value may be determined for each of the plurality of clusters based on the bin count.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for displaying recommendations that are temporally relevant to activities of a user and are contextually relevant to a portion of viewed media. This may be accomplished by a media guidance application identifying activities a user has planned, as well as respective times for which each of the plurality of activities was planned to be performed by the user. The media guidance application may filter the activities by determining which of the first plurality of activities has a corresponding respective time that is within a threshold period of time. The media guidance application may then identify characteristics of each filtered activity and of a media asset that the user is consuming at the present moment, and may compute whether the characteristics match. If the characteristics match, the media guidance application may generate for display a recommendation relating to the respective activity.

Abstract: A method of managing the processing of a digital broadcast transport stream by a multimedia unit identified by a personal identifier. The multimedia unit being connectable to a security module associated to the multimedia unit and/or a server through an IP-connection with a return path. The transport stream comprising scrambled content packets and conditional access messages that are necessary for descrambling the content packets. The method comprises: sending the conditional access messages from the multimedia unit to either the server or the security module; verifying the authentication of the multimedia unit and/or the validity of access rights allocated to the multimedia unit; if the authentication fails, preventing any further processing of the conditional access message; securely obtaining, at the multimedia unit, the control data corresponding to the conditional access messages; and descrambling the audio/video/data content packets using the control data at the multimedia unit.

Abstract: The present disclosure discloses an information release method, apparatus, and system, and relates to the field of Internet technologies. The method includes: receiving, by a server, a release request sent by a first terminal that is playing a live video, where the release request carries audio information; determining, by the server, at least one second terminal that is currently playing the live video; and sending, by the server, a release notification that carries the audio information to the second terminal. The present disclosure can reduce an impact on acquisition of information in a live video.

Abstract: An interactive television program guide system is provided. An interactive television program guide provides users with an opportunity to select programs for recording on a remote media server. Programs may also be recorded on a local media server. The program guide provides users with VCR-like control over programs that are played back from the media servers and over real-time cached copies of the programs. The program guide also provides users with an opportunity to designate gift recipients for whom programs may be recorded.

Abstract: A first portion of programming aired prior to a first time is obtained via a unicast session with a server, the first portion including previously aired programming. When the programming data being sent via the unicast session catches up to a multicast broadcast of the programming, the unicast session is terminated and a switch is made to obtaining a remaining portion of the programming from a different source other than the server. This different source can be, for example, a local storage device or a multicast broadcast of the programming.

Abstract: A system includes a user receiving device that receives content broadcast from a service provider, presents the received content on a display to be viewed by a user, receives a bookmark request signal generated in response to input from the user, generates a bookmark based on the bookmark request signal, and transmits the bookmark from the user receiving device. A storage device remotely located from the user receiving device receives the bookmark from the user receiving device and stores the bookmark with a plurality of bookmarks associated with the user. The plurality of bookmarks stored in the storage device are accessible by the user using a second screen device.

Abstract: An UPnP communication system and method for supporting an active standby mode is provided. A media system according to exemplary embodiments includes: a player configured to play back media in an active mode; and a processor configured to provide device information of the player to a controller in a standby mode, and activate the player when the controller requests playback of media. Accordingly, the fewest renderers excluding media playback are operated, so that media can be played back according to a request from the controller even when a media renderer enters a low-power mode.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing parental control support in video mosaic environment are disclosed. Upon receiving a request for a video mosaic page, screen data, which may include parental control information, is received. The screen data may identify the video assets in the video mosaic page. A determination is made whether the video assets in the video mosaic page are locked or unlocked by parental controls in force on the user equipment. Locked assets may be masked and individually unlocked upon verification of a parental control access code or PIN. Unlocked assets may be presented in cells, or windows, in the video mosaic page and may also be individually locked and subsequently masked. A separate set of parental control settings may be maintained for video mosaic pages or the mosaic parental control commands may be resolved with system parental control settings.

A content supply device according to the present disclosure includes: a fragment stream generating portion that generates a fragment stream on the basis of source data of content; a FLUTE-stream generating portion that generates a FLUTE stream from the generated fragment stream; an SDP creation portion that creates an SDP including a reception mode in the case of a reception side receiving a FLUTE session including the FLUTE stream; and a multicast delivery portion that delivers the FLUTE stream over FLUTE multicast and, prior to delivery of the FLUTE stream over FLUTE multicast, delivers the SDP over FLUTE multicast. The present disclosure can be applied to a system that delivers content over FLUTE multicast.
