Abstract: A system for providing a distributed architecture for mobile streaming content delivery is disclosed. In particular, the system may include bypassing a master head end facility and its accompanying fiber distribution network to deliver a content stream directly to mobile cell sites. In order to do so, the system may receive, at a cell cite, a content stream directly from a content satellite and then format the content into a format suitable for delivery to a subscriber device. The system may receive, such as via a radio access network, a request from the subscriber device to access the content stream. In response to the request from the subscriber device, the system may deliver the formatted content stream to the subscriber device. The distributed architecture may also allow for delivering the content stream jointly with voice data services, such as those provided in a Long-Term Evolution network or other network.

Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a server having a controller configured to identify audio content of interest associated with an audio portion of a media program. Alternate audio content is identified. Responsive to a detection of the audio content of interest within a textual representation of the audio portion, an indicator including a pointer is inserted into the media program. The pointer points to the alternate audio content and is inserted at a start point of the occurrence of the audio content of interest within the media program. The alternate audio content is retrieved based on the pointer and substituted with the alternate audio content beginning at the start point. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: When an advertisement break is detected on a program channel stream, demographic data is obtained which is descriptive of the subscribers who are currently watching material from the program channel stream, and one or more streams containing substitute advertisements are generated based on the demographic data. The substitute advertisements in each stream, thus generated, are targeted at a different demographic group of the subscribers. The number of substitute advertisement streams corresponds to the number of unused transmission channels allocated for transmission of such streams. Groups of subscribers' set-top terminals (STTs) are directed to tune to the allocated transmission channels during the advertisement break to receive the substitute advertisement streams, respectively. Consequently, the subscribers are shown the substitute, targeted advertisements instead of the regularly-scheduled advertisements.

The display apparatus includes a receiver configured to receive content and metadata including genre information of the content, a controller configured to extract the genre information from the metadata, and calculate reliability of the genre information by analyzing the content and comparing the analyzed content with the genre information, and a video processor configured to process a video of the content according to the calculated reliability.

Abstract: A content stream caster can transfer playing of a content stream from the content stream caster to any of a plurality of stream receivers. The content stream caster wirelessly initiates contact with one of a plurality of stream receivers after which the content stream caster must authenticate with the receiver before the receiver permits the receiving of a URL identifying the location of the content source. A content stream caster, communicates with a stream receiver, an authentication software application residing on both devices and wired or wireless connections between the devices and between the devices and the stream source. The content stream caster may present the content stream or send the content source URL to the receiving device. The content stream caster authenticates with the receiver then sends the source content URL to the receiver.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method of providing contextual information during video buffering includes playing a video in response to a user input. The video includes metadata and tags. The computer-implemented method also includes extracting contextual information based on the metadata and the tags. Further, the computer-implemented method includes pausing the video for video buffering. Furthermore, the computer-implemented method includes displaying the contextual information during the video buffering. The computer-implemented method includes resuming the playing of the video subsequent to the video buffering.

According to one embodiment, the control device (30) is operable in multiple orientations. In response to detecting the change of orientation of the control device (30), a navigation menu (920) in relation to content (810, 820, 830) displayed by the display device (80) is generated in a processor (60) of the control device (30). The navigation menu (920) generated by the processor (60) is then displayed on a control device display (90) of the control device (30) to facilitate controlling the display device (80). In some embodiments, a profile is accessed, and a personalized lineup is determined based on the profile. The personalized lineup may comprise a corresponding media content identification assigned to each one of a plurality of sequential time slots, where each media content identification identifies media content for the corresponding time slot. A first interactive programming guide may be caused to be displayed on a first media content device associated with the profile, where the first interactive programming guide comprises the personalized lineup.

Abstract: A system may receive tag information, associated with media content, that includes a tag and a tag time. The system may generate, based on the tag information, clip information that includes a start time and an end time for a media content clip associated with the media content. The system may determine, based on the tag information, advertisement information that identifies an advertisement to be displayed with the media content clip, and indicates how the advertisement is to be displayed. The system may provide the tag information for display via a social media application, and may receive, via the social media application, an indication that the media content clip is to be provided for display to a user. The system may provide the advertisement information and the clip information such that the advertisement and the media content clip are provided for display to the user based on the advertisement information.

Abstract: Systems, devices and methods are provided to support efficient and secure delivery of a media stream or content file to a mobile phone, tablet, computer or other remote device. Most of the media stream's content is received directly from a content source for efficient bandwidth allocation, but at least a portion of the stream is delivered from a set top box, television receiver, or other home device that is located at the customer's premises to preserve the security of the stream. The portion that is delivered from the home device may be a key portion of the stream that is essential to the playback of media stream.

Abstract: For the negotiation of an operator of a media-on-demand platform with its content providers a method and system for efficiently compiling media content items for the media-on-demand platform is provided. The method makes use of a combination of a recommender system to select a suitable set of media content items to be offered for a next period of service and a number-of-rentals predictor for estimating how many videos individual users will rent the following period of service. Furthermore, the method and system can be executed for estimating profit or loss from rentals over the following period of service as well as estimate customer satisfaction.

An example method includes collecting media identification information corresponding to media presented at a location, changing an identifier of a base station local to the location to cause mobile devices located at the location to attempt to register with the base station, responding to a received request to register a mobile device with the base station by storing device identification information for the corresponding mobile device at the base station, determining a number of mobile devices located at the location based on the stored device identification information, and identifying a number of persons exposed to the media based on the mobile devices located at the location.
