  • Patent number: 4159048
Abstract: The actuator assembly is a unitary structure comprising a self-braking rotary power unit and a spring clutch mounted on a frame and interconnected so that the spring clutch transmits the rotary driving force of the power unit to a load to thereby effect its movement in one direction, the power unit and spring clutch co-acting when the power unit is inoperative to hold the load in a selected position. An electro-magnetic device coacts with the spring clutch to cause the spring to disengage and allow the load to move in a direction opposite of the one direction.

  • Patent number: 4157044
Abstract: A five speed motorcycle transmission with coaxial input and output drives. The transmission includes a driveshaft and a countershaft rotatably mounted in a gear housing for supporting transmission system components and gear arrangements. Input torque is applied in a conventional manner to one end of the driveshaft and transmitted through the transmission components in the selected gear ratio to an output sprocket which is freely rotatably mounted on the drive shaft. Torque shifting means in the form of axially displaceable drive dogs splined to the driveshaft and countershaft can be shifted axially by conventional shifter means for selectively transmitting torque from the driveshaft through various gear arrangements to the output sprocket. The gear arrangements include a high speed overdrive gear arrangement, a high speed direct drive gear arrangement, and three low speed drive gear arrangements.

  • Patent number: 4157128
Abstract: A self-locking hinge for use as a pivotal connector between two pivoted members and adapted to lock the members in a fixed angular relation. The hinge comprises a pair of circular plates that are rigidly affixed to opposite faces of one member and rotatably connected to the other member. The circular plates are used to laterally support both of the members and to guide the other member as it is rotated from a folded position to a fully extended position. The hinge is locked in the fully extended position by means of a locking ring that is slidably engaged with the other member. When such other member is fully extended, the ring engages corresponding locking indentations at the periphery of the circular plates and thereby blocks the movement of the other member in one angular direction. The movement of the other member is blocked in the opposite angular direction due to the abutting of the hinge ends of the members.
