  • Patent number: 4679527
Abstract: A magnetic brush developer includes a magnetic brush roll having a magnet assembly which includes a development magnet, positioned at the nip between the magnetic brush roll and a photoconductive surface, at least one transport magnet and a pre-nip magnet arranged between the development magnet and the transport magnet adjacent the development magnet and so spaced from the transport magnet so as to create a tangential field therebetween. A mix barrier is arranged between the transport magnet and the pre-nip magnet to limit the flow of developer mix from a supply source to the developer nip. This combination enables the maintenance of stable flow rates and pressures of the developer mix at the development zone with non-critical tolerancing of the mix barrier.

  • Patent number: 4678682
Abstract: The perpendicular magnetic orientation of a magnetic layer containing platelet-form ferromagnetic particles coated on a web support is effectively performed by passing a web having thereon the coated magnetic layer in an undried state through a magnetic field formed by plural pairs of opposite pole type magnets disposed in the travelling direction of the web with a gap between adjacent pairs of magnets, while supplying drying air through each gap onto the surface of the travelling web to substantially complete the drying of the coated layer while the web is in the magnetic field. A partition may be inserted in each gap so that the lower end of the partition is close to the upper surface of the travelling web to divide the gap into a front section and a back section, and the drying air may be passed through these sections.

  • Patent number: 4678680
Abstract: An aperture plate for an ink jet printer of the continuous stream type is made corrosion resistant to the ink for long printer operating times. The aperture plate is made corrosion resistant by ion implantation, preferably of chromium ions by an ion beam implanting device. The walls of the aperture plate nozzles are substantially uniformly implanted by rotating and concurrently angling the aperture plate relative to the ion beam direction. The ion beam density and ion potential are regulated to predetermined ranges to assure effective corrosion protection while preventing overheating which will warp or embrittle the aperture plate.

  • Patent number: 4678681
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for preparing a water-proof sheet by forming a polymer coating on both the surfaces of a fibrous substrate fabric. At first, the fibrous substrate fabric is treated with a water repellant, and both the surfaces are subjected to the low temperature plasma treatment or corona discharge treatment. Then, a polymer coating is formed on both the surfaces. According to this process, the peel strength of the polymer coating is improved and the water absorbing property is reduced substantially to zero. If an inorganic fiber substrate fabric is treated according to this process, the bending resistance is highly improved in the resulting water-proof sheet.

  • Patent number: 4676194
Abstract: A method for forming a thin film on a substrate, which comprises aligning an evaporation means for an evaporating material to be deposited on the substrate, a plasma generating zone for dissociating an ion-forming gas into ions and electrons, an ion beam accelerating zone for accelerating the resulting ions and irradiating them onto the substrate, and said substrate on a substantially straight line in the order stated, and depositing a vapor of the evaporating material on the substrate through the plasma generating zone and the ion beam accelerating zone. According to this method, surface irradiation can be carried out uniformly because the ion species and the vapor atoms are irradiated in quite the same direction. Furthermore, the vapor atoms can be activated to a high degree, and the by-product electrons can be effectively utilized for the evaporation of the evaporant.

  • Patent number: 4674441
Abstract: A developing apparatus is provided with a developing roll for carrying a toner thereon and an elastic blade pressed against the surface of the developing roll to apply the toner thereto. The toner is thus applied to the surface of the developing roll by the elastic blade to form a thin layer of the toner on the surface of the developing roll. The thin layer is opposed to a photosensitive drum at a predetermined space to deposit the toner on an electrostatic latent image in the photosensitive drum. A pressing force changing mechanism is provided for selectively pressing the elastic blade with one of a first and second pressing force. The first pressing force is set to be enough to form the thin layer of the toner on the surface of the developing roll and the second pressing force is set lower than the first pressing force.

  • Patent number: 4675211
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for multiple-coat reverse coating using at least two different polyurethane coating solutions, all the coating solutions containing one and the same polar solvent, preferably substantially anhydrous dimethyl formamide. By choosing(A) surface-coat polyurethane solutions specially made up using high-melting diol chain-extending agents and by using(B) highly concentrated adhesive-coat polyurethane solutions containing at least 40% by weight of polyurethane,it is possible to effectively prevent the so-called "frostwork effect" when applying the adhesive coat to the surface coat (A) by the reverse coating process and the troublesome "overlamination" off the web-form textile during its lamination onto the PU-layers formed by reverse coating. In addition, recovery of the solvent from the coating solutions is simplified.
