Abstract: An image forming apparatus comprising a conveyance path of recording material comprises a door, when opened, the inside of the apparatus is exposed, and an interlock circuit which detects opening/closing state of the door. The detection unit of the door is arranged on the conveyance path. At the arranged position, the image forming apparatus comprises a registration sensor for detecting presence and absence of the recording material and delivery sensor. The CPU controls pressure to the recording material S passing the fixing nip portion formed by a pair of rollers arranged on the conveyance path. Also, the CPU decides whether the recording material exists at the fixing nip portion based on the respective detection result from the registration sensor and the delivery sensor.
Abstract: A method for producing printed products in a production plant, equipped with a digital printing press and at least one post-print processing machine arranged downstream of the digital printing press. The printed products are produced according to work orders for which the digital printing press prints on a print material web. The post-print processing machine processes the print material web into printed products. The production plant is converted for producing different printed products to be produced in a following work order, relative to a preceding work order. A time interval is initially determined for adjusting the post-print processing machine with the longest adjustment time. The post-print processing machine to be adjusted begins with the adjustment as soon as the last printed product of the preceding work order leaves this post-print processing machine.
Abstract: In an image forming apparatus, a sensor section includes a sheet path through which the sheet passes in a sheet feeding direction. In the sensor section, a light source unit emits light to an irradiation area set in the sheet path. Here, the light is elongated in a main-scanning direction and has quantities of light varying according to positions in the main-scanning direction and according to positions in a height direction perpendicular to a sheet feed surface. In addition, in the sensor section, a light-receiving section receives light diffused in a predetermined diffusing direction among the light emitted from the light source and then irradiated to the sheet passing in the sheet path and outputs information representing quantities of the received light. In the image forming apparatus, a control section extracts a parameter from the information and derives an amount of curl of the sheet.
Abstract: An image forming apparatus which uses a printing control technique for, even when a third-party finisher whose performance is unknown is connected to the image forming apparatus, realizing a sheet-feeding judgment with consideration given to the performance of the finisher and preventing degradation of working efficiency. When an error notification is received from a post-processing apparatus, a type of a sheet discharged to the post-processing apparatus is identified. The identified type is managed as a type of a prohibited sheet prohibited from being discharged to the post-processing apparatus.
Abstract: An apparatus and method of orienting and decorating container end closures is provided. More specifically, the present invention relates to apparatus and methods used to position container end closures in a predetermined orientation and then decorate a predetermined portion of the end closures.

Abstract: A decal printing paper for ceramic surfaces has a base paper coated with a water-soluble release layer, an image transfer layer made of liquid cover coat with glass/ceramic flux added, and a printed image layer. The glass/ceramic flux contains glass frit with a relatively low melting point to provide a one-step printing paper with a glass/ceramic flux that delivers the required adhesion, as well as reducing the firing temperature. The image transfer layer can also include a dye colorant to provide a visual indication of a functional characteristic of the decal printing paper.
Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a storage portion, an opening, a moving unit, and a pressing unit that can be moved between a pressing position where the pressing unit presses a surface of a sheet in a exposure state and a retreat position where the pressing unit retracts from the pressing position.
Abstract: A decorator assembly is provided. The decorator assembly includes a mandrel turret assembly. The mandrel turret assembly includes a rotatable turret, a number of mandrels, and a number of independent ink stations. Each mandrel is rotatably coupled to the turret. Each mandrel extends generally radially from the turret and are disposed generally in a plane about an axis of rotation. The turret is structured to rotate about an axis of rotation thereby moving each mandrel over a generally circular path of travel. Each independent ink station is disposed adjacent to the path of travel of the mandrels.
Abstract: A sheet conveying apparatus includes first and second conveyance roller pairs, a width-direction shifting unit, first and second drive units, and a control unit. The second conveyance roller pair is arranged downstream of the first conveyance roller pair to nip and convey the sheet conveyed by the first conveyance roller pair, and to bend the sheet. The width-direction shifting unit shifts the sheet nipped by the second conveyance roller pair in a width direction by shifting the second conveyance roller pair in the width direction. The control unit controls the first and second drive units so that a circumferential speed of the first conveyance roller pair is made higher than that of the second conveyance roller pair between when the second conveyance roller pair starts conveying the sheet and when the width-direction shifting unit completes shifting the second conveyance roller pair in the width direction.
Abstract: An image forming apparatus including an automatic document feeder (ADF) that transports a document is provided. The ADF unit includes a subtray that is openable and closable. When transporting a document, the subtray is opened and a document to be transported is fed into a space below a guide member. At this time, surfaces of the subtray and a main tray are used as a feed tray. The document that has been transported is discharged onto a guide member and is further transported onto the surface of the second tray. At this time, the surface of the second tray and the surface of the guide member are used as a discharge tray.
Abstract: A variable lithographic printing process includes absorbing a release agent into an imaging member; forming a later image by evaporating the release agent from selective locations on an imaging member surface; developing the latent image; and transferring the developed image to a receiving substrate. The release agent diffuses through the imaging member surface.
Abstract: A printing apparatus notifies a user of a message that jamming may be attributed to a protective member yet to be removed, without providing any sensor for detecting the protective member. A method for controlling a printing apparatus that conveys a sheet includes detecting sheet jamming, determining a number of discharged sheets, and notifying the user to remove the protective member present on a conveyance path if the sheet jamming is detected and the number of discharged sheets is determined to be less than a predetermined number, and notifying the user of the sheet jamming if the sheet jamming is detected and the number of discharged sheets is determined to be equal to or greater than the predetermined number.
Abstract: A method of achieving precision registration in a roll to roll process by simultaneously depositing multiple inks onto a printing roll. One of these inks prints a pattern of fiducial marks onto a substrate while another ink prints a predetermined pattern on the same substrate such that the predetermined pattern bears a predictable spatial relationship to the pattern of fiducial marks. Consequently, even if the ink forming the predetermined pattern is invisible, or has such low contrast with the substrate that it is effectively invisible, or even has been dissolved away in a subsequent processing step, it is still possible to know where the predetermined pattern is by referring to the pattern of fiducial marks.
