  • Patent number: 5117716
Abstract: A dual template assembly for permitting rough and finish cuts to be made on successive passes of a tracer lathe includes separate rough and finish templates. A pneumatic cylinder selectively causes sliding movement of the rough template relative to the finish template. The rough template is initially moved to an extended position, wherein an edge thereof is exposed over an edge of the finish template. A lathe tracing stylus is moved across the rough template edge, causing the lathe to remove material from a workpiece in accordance with the rough shaped defined thereby. A sensor generates a signal when the tracing stylus completes its movement across the rough template. In response thereto, the control circuit causes the rough template to be moved to a retracted position, wherein the finish template edge is exposed over the rough template edge.

  • Patent number: 5111622
Abstract: A grinding wheel is mounted coaxially of an internal diameter saw blade and rotates with the saw blade during operation. The grinding wheel includes a grinding disc and a center rod which is movably mounted within a central bore of the spindle of the slicing machine. Compressed fluid such as air is used to move the grinding wheel from a retracted position to an extended position against the bias of a spring secured to the center rod. The pressurized fluid is introduced into a chamber for moving an annular sleeve-like piston removably secured to the grinding disc. An adjustable stop ring is also mounted on an adaptor within the sleeve-like piston and has ears which can be deflected by screws from access openings in the grinding disc for fine running adjustments of the grinding disc. This stop ring can be accessed upon removal of the grinding disc from the center rod and sleeve-like piston in order to permit coarse initial adjustments in the positioning of the grinding disc.

  • Patent number: 5101700
Abstract: A rotatable tool head for a machine tool includes a tool slide and a mass balancing counter slide which are radially displaceable in opposite directions. The counter slide is mounted in a central recess of the tool slide such that the mass centers of the tool slide and the counter slide move along substantially the same radial line during tool adjustments. In this manner unbalanced masses present in an arrangement where the slides are positioned in axial or radial adjacent relationship, are substantial eliminated.

  • Patent number: 5086677
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for truncating tubes, comprising at least one knife, which cooperates at the end of the cut with a counter-knife positioned within the tube to be truncated and which is connected mechanically to a core of strong magnetic permeability. In one embodiment, a winding is wound in a framework around the tube to be truncated, to create a magnetic field in the core through the tube to be truncated so as to be able to act magnetically on the longitudinal position of the core and thus on that of the counter-knife. At least one pair of tubular sleeves are fitted at each of the ends of the framework and are formed of a material of strong magnetic permeability, to direct and form the lines of induction. In another embodiment, the winding is arranged around a core which is fixed with respect to said winding and whose axis is positioned parallel and at a distance from the longitudinal axis of the tube to be truncated.

  • Patent number: 5072550
Abstract: This invention provides a grinding method and a grinding machine therefor with controlled grinding force which detects the grinding force and grinding rate during operations, calculates in real time the threshold force and grinding wheel sharpness coefficient for each grinding cycle by an arithmetic operation unit, monitors the changes in sharpness of the grinding wheel, and properly changes values instructed by the grinding force commands based on the threshold force, the sharpness coefficient and the predetermined grinding rate value for controlling the feed of the grinding wheel. When the deflection of the grinding wheel shaft changes due to the changes in grinding force, the swivel angle of the grinding wheel shaft or a workpiece is adjusted to prevent the surface of the workpiece from tapering.

  • Patent number: 5065549
Abstract: A process and apparatus for grinding the proper taper and all of the flutes with the correct number of spirals simultaneously in a single cycle of the grinding machine. This is accomplished by passing a rotating stock to produce the correct number of spirals under a grinding wheel that is dressed with three or four properly formed ribs depending on how many flutes are being manufactured. These ribs are spaced so as to exactly match the lead distance of the rotating stock during 120.degree. or 90.degree. of revolution, depending on whether a three or four fluted instrument is being manufactured. The height of each individual rib on the grinding wheel varies in relationship with each other to exactly match the correct taper being created by moving either the rotating stock portion of the machine or the grinding wheel portion of the machine so as to increase the distance therebetween.
