Patent number: 5029418Abstract: A technique for sawing substrates on a chuck wherein the substrate is secured to a layer of a first sawing tape, and is placed on the major surface of a chuck with a second tape therebetween. The second tape comprises both a first major surface with a low surface tension effect that is in contact with the major surface of the chuck, and a multitude of perforations or pinholes therein. Vacuum is applied to both the channels in the major surface of the chuck and the pinholes in the second tape, to securely hole the substrate to the chuck during the sawing of the substrate. When the sawing is completed, the vacuum is removed and either atmospheric pressure or pressurized air is applied to the channels of the chuck, and the combination of the substrate, first sawing tape and second tape are easily removable because of the low surface tension effect of the first major surface of the second tape with the major surface of the chuck.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1990Date of Patent: July 9, 1991Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventor: David N. Patent number: 5018318Abstract: Apparatus for surface treatment of workpieces has a rotary horizontal cage with inclined end walls and a set of elongated rod-shaped or bar-shaped components between the end walls. The end walls are rotatable in inclined carriers which cause them to act not unlike swash plates and to cause the components to reciprocate in response to rotation of the cage about its axis. The end portions of the components are tensioned by springs which react against the end walls and bear against axially adjustable nuts at the free ends of the components at the outer sides of the end walls. The end walls have relatively large holes to ensure that the components are not flexed during reciprocation in response to rotation of the cage. Workpieces to be treated, e.g., by sprays of solid particles, are introduced through one of the end walls and advance toward the other end wall at a speed which is determined by the extent of reciprocatory movement of the components and the rotational speed of the cage.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1989Date of Patent: May 28, 1991Inventor: Werner Hunziker

Patent number: 5016402Abstract: A kit including a plurality of sandpaper supporting devices, each of differing length and/or width dimension whereby areas of varying size and contour may more readily be finished in an abrading process. Each of the devices includes a plate member of a predetermined length and width dimension, the plate being sufficiently flexible to conform to the contour of the surface being finished. One or more handle members of varying types are releasibly attached to one major surface of the plate. A knobby elastomeric pad is removably attached to the other major surface of the plate, preferably using Velcro.RTM. strips. The knobby pad serves as a backing or support for an abrasive sheet (e.g. sandpaper) of a width and length corresponding to the dimensions of the plate member. When the supporting devices are to be used with an airfile, a special adapter is used which is coupled to the supporting device and permits flexure of the supporting devices.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1989Date of Patent: May 21, 1991Inventor: John P.
