  • Patent number: 8077651
Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods are described for formatting packets for downstream satellite links. The generation of a broadband wireless signal is described, the signal to be transmitted between a gateway and subscriber terminals via satellite. Respective data link layer addresses for the subscriber terminals may each be associated with one or more shortened identifiers for use in lieu of the associated data link layer addresses. This addressing may be included in a stream encapsulation header for an appended data packet. One or more such headers and their appended data packets may then be encapsulated in a baseband frame for transmission within a physical layer frame. Data packets may be fragmented across physical layer frames, and a range of novel formatting techniques may be used to implement the fragmentation.

  • Patent number: 8005042
Abstract: In a data communication system capable of variable rate transmission, high rate packet data transmission improves utilization of the forward link and decreases the transmission delay. Data transmission on the forward link is time multiplexed and the base station transmits at the highest data rate supported by the forward link at each time slot to one mobile station. The data rate is determined by the largest C/I measurement of the forward link signals as measured at the mobile station. Upon determination of a data packet received in error, the mobile station transmits a NACK message back to the base station. The NACK message results in retransmission of the data packet received in error. The data packets can be transmitted out of sequence by the use of sequence number to identify each data unit within the data packets.

  • Patent number: 7133394
Abstract: A code division multiple access base station is used in receiving a plurality of data signals over a shared spectrum. Each received data signal experiences a similar channel response. A combined signal of the received data signals is received over the shared spectrum. The combined signal is sampled at a multiple of the chip rate. A channel response is estimated. A cross correlation matrix is determined using the estimated channel response. The spread data vector is determined using order recursions by determining a first spread data estimate using an element from the cross correlation matrix and recursively determining further estimates using additional elements of the cross correlation matrix. Data of the data signals is estimated using the spread data vector.

  • Patent number: 7054263
Abstract: A change of switch plane operation is performed in a multi-plane cell switching node (20) which has a first switch plane (22); a second switch plane (24); and plural switch port interface units (26). In response to detection of a fault in the active switch plane, the passive switch plane sends a plane change cell to the plural switch port interface units, and stops egress traffic flow from the second switch plane. Upon receiving the plane change cell, each switch port interface unit redirects traffic cells sent from the active plane to the passive switch plane. Each switch port interface unit then determines when traffic cells destined thereto have been flushed from the first switch plane, and changes its active switch plane designation (so that the formerly passive switch plane becomes the active switch plane) so that egress traffic flow can begin from the formerly passive (now active) plane to the respective switch port interface units.

  • Patent number: 7054303
Abstract: An information terminal incorporates a network interface and an extension interface, and in the case of outside call, an audio send signal is modulated into an audio signal frequency band, and sent to the exchange through a private telephone line and a subscriber's line by way of the network interface. An audio receive signal sent from the exchange through the subscriber's line and private telephone line is demodulated into an ordinary audio frequency band through the network interface. On the other hand, in the case of extension service, an audio send signal is converted into a packetized digital signal by an extension interface circuit, and is further modulated into a higher frequency band so as not to overlap with the audio signal frequency band, and is transmitted through the private telephone line.

  • Patent number: 7035211
Abstract: In a broadband switching system for the switching of asynchronously transferred cells of data, a dynamic bandwidth controller (DBC) controls the application of data cells at an input port of the system, the data cells being supplied by a number of transmitting end-stations. The DBC detects incoming cells, identifies the source of the cells, provides buffering for the cells, and controls the output of the cells to the system switches according to a current cell rate (CR) assigned to the cells from the respective source. The system also includes a connection admission (CAC) module which determines bandwidth available in the system. The DBC and CAC operate together to maintain a permanent virtual path of a predetermined minimum bandwidth through the system and allocate additional bandwidth on demand up to a maximum. The additional bandwidth allocated to the path can be automatically removed or reduced of it is not used by the source.

  • Patent number: 7035206
Abstract: A loop network hub port with an automatic bypass feature. The automatic bypass feature causes the hub port to enter a bypass mode upon detection of a specified loop failure initialization sequence from a node port attached to the hub port. The hub port does not propagate loop failure initialization data generated by the attached node port upon the failure of a data channel from the hub port to the node port. The hub port replaces loop failure initialization data received from the node port with buffer data and conceals the node port failure from the remainder of the loop. Upon detection of the loop failure initialization sequence received from the attached node port, the hub port enters a bypass mode and maintains that bypass mode until a recovery sequence is received from the node port. At that point, the hub port reinserts the node port into the loop.

  • Patent number: 7027421
Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for increasing the performance of searcher by using the array antenna when the signal to interference plus noise ratio is low. The two-dimensional searcher performs the spatial-filtering to reduce the noise and interference components and then correlates the spatial-filtered signal with a pseudo noise (PN) code to thereby detect the incoming signals and acquire the corresponding code timings. Furthermore, the two-dimensional searcher can be used to increase the performance of a finger beamformer in two ways. One is to use searcher beamforming weight as initial finger beamforming weight to increase the convergence speed in the adaptive beamforming algorithms. The other is to reduce an amount of computation in the angle of arrival estimation algorithms by calculating the azimuth power spectrum only for the specific angle range.
