  • Patent number: 4759241
Abstract: In a screw driver with a turning tool placed at the front end of a shank which is torsionally connected with a handle, the turning tool can be reliably prevented from slipping off the head of the screw to be turned by the fact that the turning tool is embraced by a jaw chuck with at least two holding jaws in the form of spring arms of a shifter collar which can be moved in the axial direction on the shank, the spring arms being spreadable in the radial direction against their inherent elasticity by means of butting faces of the shank, and fixable against each other by means of a cooperating radial locking gear which can be released by butting faces of the shank. The shifter collar is fixable against the shank by means of a cooperating axial locking gear, and is connected with a control element which can be moved in the axial direction against the shank, has a limited relative movability against the shifter collar, and is provided with butting faces releasing the axial locking gear.

  • Patent number: 4757647
Abstract: Apparatus for deburring or other surface treatment of workpieces has a tubular housing with a set of axially parallel flexible, elastic or rigid rod- or wire-like components which define gaps and whose end portions are separately affixed to driven rotary end walls. The end walls wobble in synchronism with one another so as to move the components longitudinally while the components orbit about the axis of the receptacle. The workpieces which are admitted into one end of the receptacle are agitated and rotated as a result of rotation of the receptacle and move toward the other end of the receptacle due to reciprocation of components in parallelism with the axis of the receptacle. One or more nozzles admit jets of flames, solid, liquid and/or gaseous media which penetrate through the gaps between the components of the receptacle and treat the workpieces.

  • Patent number: 4754669
Abstract: In a portable motorized screwdriver, in order to provide for manual use of the screwdriver, to finish screwing in a screw, for example, or to start unscrewing a screw, a mechanism is provided for locking the spindle. This mechanism is coupled to the switch used to start and stop rotation of the spindle. This coupling is arranged so that operation of the switch to start rotation of the spindle is accompanied by unlocking of the spindle and so that returning the switch to the position to stop rotation of the spindle locks the spindle. The locking mechanism is arranged so that when the spindle is locked the screwdriver may be used as a ratchet type manual screwdriver.

  • Patent number: 4753138
Abstract: A handle cap designed for use on a tool handle is disclosed. The handle cap has a cavity which forms an annular rim portion and an inner face. The annular rim portion of the cap is sleeved over an end of the tool handle so that the tool handle protrudes into the cavity and is abutted by the inner face of the cavity. The handle cap includes a tapered, projecting end portion extending outwardly in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the tool handle. The end portion has a channel formed therein which extends through the end portion and within which is fixed an elongated, permanent magnet. By using a handle cap which includes a projecting end portion as described, it is possible to use a longer and more powerful magnet than was possible in previous devices.

  • Patent number: 4750388
Abstract: An oil filter gripping tool including a looped band, the ends of which are connected to scissors levers through a pair of double pivot hinges. The hinges allow movement of the levers to tighten the band to contract to closely fit and grip the oil filter. With the band tightened about the oil filter, turning the levers causes rotation of the oil filter. The hinges also allow the levers to be laterally moved to avoid engine and vehicle parts.

  • Patent number: 4748872
Abstract: This invention presents a flexible power tool in which a flexible drive is utilized to permit the power supplying end to be angularly displaced from the work performing and during powered drive without inherent wobble, which is achieved first by pivotally connecting the power supplying end to the work performing end through a spring biasing device which resists the angular movement of the two ends during powered drive and second by utilizing a unique differential drive shaft in which the two pivoting differential axes are intersecting and coplanar, and the shaft is mounted in the tool in such manner that the coplanar axes can float into alignment with the pivotal axis between the ends of the tool.

  • Patent number: 4747328
Abstract: Ratchet wrench composed of a head having a ratchet system for controlling or locking the shank of the ratchet wrench. Connected to the head of the wrench through a neck is a cylinder structure. The cylinder structure includes circumferentially spaced longitudinal grooves and is connected to an arm by casing means. The arm has a central bore and a locking pin therethrough for locking or unlocking the arm to the cylinder. In the locked position, where the locking pin is engaged with a groove of the cylinder, the wrench can be used in a conventional manner. In the unlocked position, when the locking pin end is retracted from a groove the arm of the wrench is capable of being manipulated to rapidly rotate a bolt or a nut or to conveniently position the arm when a tight or close quarter area is encountered.

  • Patent number: 4741229
Abstract: A stud insertion and mounting device with a threaded bore formed axially through a tubular body. The bore has an open end and a closed end in which an abutting and locking means is positioned at the closed end to abut the stud for rotatably threading said stud into a suitably tapped receiving hole. A means for releasing the abutting and locking means from the mounted stud is provided, upon which when the device is rotated, the device is unthreaded from the mounted stud. The abutting and locking means may be a cylinder with a chamfered end or other shape. The device may be rotatably driven by a conventional pneumatic source or by hand through a conventional socket or open-ended wrench.

  • Patent number: 4741228
Abstract: A stud extractor for removing a stud embedded in a structure includes a shaft having an end portion adapted to be grasped by a tool and a body having a plurality of longitudinally-extending, convex camming surfaces and a pin having a plurality of rod portions positioned adjacent to the camming surfaces and joined by bridge elements to form a pocket for receiving the body of the shaft. The pin and shaft are inserted into a bore formed in a stud to be extracted and the shaft is rotated relative to the pin and stud. This causes the camming surfaces to jam the rod portions of the pin against the wall of the bore to prevent further relative rotation and cause the stud to rotate with the shaft. In a preferred embodiment, the pin includes an upper lip which prevents the pin from sliding completely into the bore of the stud.
