  • Patent number: 10657987
Abstract: This disclosure is related to systems, devices, processes, and methods to optimize a laser power boost amplitude, a laser power boost duration, or both in a heat-assisted data recording device, such as in heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR). The amplitude and duration for the laser power boost may be determined for a specific portion of a write operation, such as a first sector of the write operation. During operation of a data storage device, the laser power boost may provide additional power to the laser for the specific portion. Once the laser power boost duration has elapsed, the data storage device may continue providing power to the laser at the normal power input range of the laser. The laser power boost settings may be determined on a per head per zone basis, per track basis, or another configuration.

  • Patent number: 10631437
Abstract: An electronic device having a display assembly is disclosed. Several layers may combine to form the display assembly. For example, the display assembly may include a touch sensitive layer (or touch detection layer), a display layer that present visual information, and a force sensitive layer (or force detection layer). The display layer may include a bend or curve that allows a portion of the display layer to bend around the force sensitive layer. Also, the connectors (that provide electrical and mechanical connections) may be positioned at different locations of the layers. For example, the display layer may include a connector on a first edge region, and the force sensitive layer may include a connector on a second edge region that is perpendicular, or at least substantially perpendicular, to the first edge region. By positioning the connectors on perpendicular edge regions, the display assembly may reduce its footprint.

  • Patent number: 10599247
Abstract: Thermal compensation can be applied to force measurements of a force-sensitive button. A temperature differential between an object and the force-sensitive button can result in changes in the reconstructed force by the force sensor due to thermal effects rather than actual user force, which in turn can result in degraded performance of the force sensor (e.g., false positive or inconsistent activation force). In some examples, a force-sensitive button can include a force sensor configured to measure an amount of force applied to the force-sensitive button, and a temperature sensor configured to measure a temperature associated with the force sensor. The measured temperature can be used to compensate the amount of force measured by the force sensor based on the temperature associated with the force sensor. In some examples, the thermal compensation can be applied when an object is detected contacting the force-sensitive button (i.e., when rapid temperature differentials can occur).
