  • Patent number: 9967860
Abstract: A system and method for network-wide broadcasting, including identifying interference dependencies between base stations (eNBs) to generate one or more single frequency network (SFN) clusters for one or more broadcast sessions. The generating of SFN clusters includes performing a controlled decrease in transmit diversity gain for each of the sessions by progressively creating smaller SFN clusters, iteratively creating the smaller SFN clusters until a target modulation and coding scheme (MCS) threshold is met to generate a plurality of SFN clusters, and selecting an SFN cluster with a maximum common MCS for all SFN clusters in a set. Resource block (RB) allocation is integrated with the generating of the SFN clusters to determine maximum system utility, and the system utility considers the sum of the utilities of broadcast and unicast flows. Network-wide broadcasting is controlled based on the determined maximum system utility.

  • Patent number: 9954594
Abstract: A method of channel estimation enhancement is provided. In a wireless communications system, a transmitting device transmits a long preamble frame comprising a first training field, a signal field, and a second training field. The signal field has a beam-change indicator bit indicates whether there is beam change between the first training field and the second training field. A receiving device receives the long preamble frame, performs a first channel estimation based on the first training field, and performs a second channel estimation based on the second training field. If the beam-change indicator bit indicates negative beam change, then the receiving device performs channel estimation enhancement by combining the first channel estimation and the second channel estimation. As a result, channel estimation performance is improved.

  • Patent number: 9936450
Abstract: A communication system includes a base station configuring an energy saving cell (ES cell) and a base station configuring a compensation cell (Comp cell). The ES cell is switchable between a switch-on state and a switch-off state. The Comp cell compensates for the coverage of the ES cell when the ES cell is in the switch-off state. Before the Comp cell starts compensating for the coverage, for example, before the ES cell decides to switch itself off in Step ST2101, in Step ST2201 for example, the base station configuring the ES cell notifies the UE being connected with the ES cell of the information about a Comp cell, for example, a Comp cell list.

  • Patent number: 9930691
Abstract: A system and method of Random-Access Response, RAR, messaging when a base station employs narrow beamforming. Multiple RAR messages are successively transmitted from the base station to a User Equipment, UE, before any response to a RAR message is received from the UE. Thus, despite any calibration mismatch between Uplink, UL, and Downlink, DL, beams in the beamformed system, a RAR message is not only received by the UE, but is received over the most-suitable DL beam for that UE. Each RAR message may contain a message-specific scheduling-delay indicator in the UL grant carried in the RAR message to provide an adjustable time delay for the UE's uplink transmission scheduled by the UL grant. Multiple RAR transmissions can schedule a single UL transmission at a specific time instance or different UL transmissions at different time intervals. The UE may report to the base station the best DL RAR transmission detected by the UE.

  • Patent number: 9930662
Abstract: Communication operations are optimally conducted by applying space-division multiple access in which wireless resources on a spatial axis are shared among a plurality of users. By applying an RD protocol to a communication system that conducts space-division multiple access, spatially multiplexed frames in a TXOP are made more efficient. By specifying a frame length for reverse direction frames with reverse direction permission information and having respective transmitters of reverse direction frames make their frame lengths uniform while respecting the specification, AGC operation stabilizes. Also, a transmit start time for reverse direction frames can be specified by reverse direction permission information, and respective transmitters of reverse direction frames can transmit frames at the same time while respecting the specification.

  • Patent number: 9907004
Abstract: A method and system for dynamically controlling transition of a UE between operating modes based on a consideration of air interface congestion and interruption-sensitivity of communication. The UE operates by default in a first mode such as a circuit-switched-fallback (CSFB) mode. While so operating, a determination is made that the UE's serving air interface is threshold highly congested. In response, if the UE is not engaged in interruption-sensitive communication, the UE then transitions from operating in the first mode to operating in a second mode such as a non-CSFB mode (e.g., a single-radio LTE (SRLTE) mode).
