  • Patent number: 9553752
Abstract: Estimating and compensating the frequency offset between a transmitter and a receiver is essential for reliable communication in wireless communication systems. Before a client terminal synchronizes with a base station, the initial frequency offset may be high. The frequency offset estimation may need to be performed even without having time synchronization with a base station. In case of cellular systems multiple base stations may be using the same RF channel to transmit their signals. The signals from different base stations may be superimposed at the receiver of the client terminal. A method and apparatus are disclosed for frequency offset estimation in presence of the signals from multiple base stations and with unknown timing of the base station.

  • Patent number: 9544091
Abstract: A network device includes a communication interface and a transmitter coupled to the communication interface. The transmitter is configured to determine to start an auto-negotiation page with a link partner, and transmit, through the communication interface, a start delimiter for the auto-negotiation page. The transmitter transmits the start delimiter by transmitting a first pulse comprising a first encoding violation, followed by a second pulse comprising a second encoding violation. The transmitter may shorten the first pulse and the second pulse relative to a different pre-defined start delimiter to define spectral content for the first pulse and the second pulse that passes different first and second receiver filters in the link partner for different first and second communication standards.

  • Patent number: 9544238
Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method for reducing congestion in a network stack that includes a series of components that send data packets through the network stack to a network. At a first component of the network stack, the method receives a data packet from a second component of the network stack. The method identifies a usage indicator value for a flow to which the data packet belongs. The usage indicator value is based on a comparison of a size of the flow to a size of a queue for a third component of the network stack. The method determines whether to send the data packet based on a comparison of the usage indicator value to a threshold usage value. The method sends the data packet to a next component of the network stack only when the usage indicator value is less than the threshold usage value.

  • Patent number: 9531563
Abstract: Transmission over a communication channel using carrier sense multiple access collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) may be performed by determining for each frame if the communication channel is busy after a backoff time proportional to a randomly generated number within a contention window (CW). When the channel is not busy, a frame of data may be transmitted. When the channel is busy, the device may periodically determine if the communication channel is busy after subsequent backoff times. The value of CW is adjusted for each subsequent backoff time using a fairness protocol, in which the value of CW is increased until the value of CW reaches a maximum CW value; and then the value of CW is held until a fairness number of backoff repetitions reaches a fairness threshold; then the value of CW is reduced incrementally until the value of CW reaches a minimum CW value.

  • Patent number: 9521076
Abstract: Various disclosed embodiments include methods, systems, and computer-readable media for named data network (NDN) inter/intra-domain mobility. A complete de-coupling of identity and addressing space is established. This provides separation of control and forwarding allowing rich policy based routing, using SDN principles, as well as policy based global resolution. In one embodiment, the de-coupling of identity from location is achieved by a changeable forwarding label field in a header that can have nodal/domain/global scope. This disclosure provides content routing/mobility to be handled with a high degree of flexibility. This disclosure also provides mobility as a service for a component of a name space.

  • Patent number: 9521650
Abstract: In transmission of paging information from a mobile network to a terminal device (200), the terminal device applies a discontinuous reception cycle to enter a sleep mode. Further, the terminal device determines an advance wakeup time (AW) for leaving the sleep mode. The advance wakeup time (AW) is advanced by an advancement time interval (?A) with respect to a start of an active time of the discontinuous reception cycle. At the determined advance wakeup time (AW), the terminal device leaves the sleep mode and starts monitoring the downlink control channel with respect to paging configuration information transmitted by the mobile network. The paging configuration information defines a paging occasion for transmission of the paging information. On the basis of the paging configuration information, the terminal device monitors the paging occasion to receive the paging information from the mobile network.

Abstract: System(s) and method(s) are provided for transmitting data code symbols and control code symbols spanning disparate transmission time intervals in the uplink. Data and control symbols that overlap in time-domain within a transmission time interval are multiplexed and transmitted employing resources scheduled for data transmission, whereas data and control code symbols that are not multiplexed are transmitted in respective allocated resources. Multiplexing in conjunction with localized and distributed resource scheduling preserves the single-carrier characteristics of a single-carrier frequency division multiple access system.

  • Patent number: 9503923
Abstract: Multiuser classification of the modulation schemes of simultaneous multiple unknown transmitters is disclosed. Cooperation among multiple cognitive radio receivers for modulation classification offers improvements in classification performance and overcomes detrimental channel effects that degrade single cognitive radio classifier performance. A centralized soft-combining data fusion algorithm based on the joint probability distribution of fourth order cumulants is presented for cooperative modulation classification. Fourth order cumulants of received signals are calculated as discriminating features for different modulation schemes at each cognitive radio node and sent to a centralized data node. The data node chooses the modulation scheme that maximizes the joint probability of the estimated cumulants.
