  • Patent number: 6853634
Abstract: A presence management system allows connections between watching parties and watched parties in a multiple access communications network to be managed. When the presence management system receives a contact request from a watching party it determines whether the required watched party is available for contact. The system then provides information about this to the watching party who made the request. The presence management system chooses the best mode of communication (e.g. email or fax) taking into account the watched parties preferences and details about the facilities available to the watching party.

  • Patent number: 6826389
Abstract: The invention relates to a transmitter and a method of generating a transmission signal. A first modulation device 12 generates an uncompensated transmission signal Y(t) by modulating at least one baseband signal I, Q with a respective oscillation signal LOQ, LOI. The invention improves a transmitter with such a modulation device so as to reduce the expenditure for the filtering at a later stage that is necessary to attenuate undesirable components in the uncompensated transmission signal Y(t). This is achieved in that a compensation signal C(t) is formed on the output of a second modulation device (14), the compensation signal representing essentially the components to be compensated in the uncompensated transmission signal Y(t).

  • Patent number: 6819938
Abstract: A technique for calibrating the open-loop transmit power of a wireless communication device overcomes the inherent nonlinearities in the gain control input of a variable gain amplifier (VGA). In one embodiment, a feedback circuit generates a signal indicative of the transmit power. This signal is compared with a desired transmit power level, which comprises an open-loop gain component and a closed-loop gain component. The desired transmit power level is compared with the actual transmit power level and an error signal is generated. The error signal is used to alter the gain of the VGA in the transmitter to thereby adjust the actual transmit power level to correspond with the desired transmit power level. In alternative embodiment, the receiver portion, which also contains a VGA, is pre-calibrated in a conventional manner. During a transmitter calibration process, the transmitter is coupled to the receiver input through a mixer and filter. The pre-calibrated receiver determines the actual transmit power level.

  • Patent number: 6813482
Abstract: An amount-of-correction extracting unit detects a deviation angle from a phase of a reference signal point of phase information contained in a received signal, and determines an amount of correction based on the deviation angle. On a transmission side, transmission data is converted into a pair of amplitude data corresponding to a signal point of the transmission data. The amount of correction is added to the phase of the signal point indicated by the pair of amplitude data. A carrier wave for transmission is modulated by the pair of amplitude data after correction, and is then transmitted. Thus, it is possible to transmit the modulated wave which varies in accordance with the frequency precision of the other communication party.

  • Patent number: 6791964
Abstract: A receiving device in a multi-carrier CDMA communication system. In the receiving device, a time compensation means has a time tracker for each of signals received on multi-carriers and generates a time delay compensation signal by combining time errors of the carriers received from the time trackers. A first PN sequence generator generates a first PN sequence whose time delay is compensated for by the time delay compensation signal. A plurality of PN despreaders PN-despread the signals received on the multi-carriers by the first PN sequence. A frequency compensation means detects pilot signals corresponding to the PN-despread signals, generates frequency error signals for the carriers by the detected pilot signals, and compensates for frequency errors of the signals received on the multi-carriers. A phase compensation means compensates for phases for the carriers using the PN-despread signals and the pilot signals. A multiplexer multiplexes the phase-compensated signals.
