  • Patent number: 6782268
Abstract: This invention provides a method and apparatus for associating call data with particular users instead of line ports. This call data includes the last incoming and outgoing calls associated with a particular number. This allows the services such as automatic callback, automatic recall, and customer originated trace to be implemented with dynamic line assignment allowing users to maintain the same level of subscribed services at different locations. For mobile users, automatic callback, automatic recall, and customer originated trace can be implemented at the home mobile switching center as well as roaming mobile switching centers. If the mobile user is roaming, updating the call history of the mobile station at the new mobile switching center allows the mobile user to experience seamless services across a large territory.

  • Patent number: 6782244
Abstract: An amplifier provides two or more selectively enabled amplifier segments allowing a source signal to be amplified with a selectable output power. A bias circuit responsive to a bias control signal enables selectable combinations of one or more amplifier segments, thus allowing selection of a desired output power. Selecting a desired output signal power via the bias control signal corresponds to selecting an overall amplifier quiescent current that decreases with decreasing output signal power. Thus, the amplifier permits a controlling system, such as a mobile terminal (e.g., cellular telephone) to amplify a transmit signal with a selectable transmit signal output power and corresponding level of amplifier quiescent power consumption. Preferably, each segment comprises one or more transistor amplification stages which, when enabled by the bias circuit, are biased to permit maximum power linear amplification for the transmit signal.

  • Patent number: 6775524
Abstract: When a transmission-line driver circuit that transmits a signal to a transmission line is supplied with a power-supply voltage from a power-supply circuit, the value of the power-supply voltage is controlled based upon the amplitude of a signal output from the transmission-line driver circuit. For example, the maximum value of a signal input to the transmission-line driver circuit in time units delimited at fixed time periods is detected, the target value of power-supply voltage supplied to the transmission-line driver circuit is decided based upon the maximum value, and the power-supply circuit is controlled in such a manner that the target value of power-supply voltage and actual value of power-supply voltage will agree.

  • Patent number: 6775548
Abstract: A method and apparatus for accessing a telecommunications system. A channel having a plurality of data rates and a plurality of frame sizes is utilized by a mobile station to gain access to the system. If channel conditions allow, a faster data rate of the available data rates and a smaller frame size of the available frame sizes may be used to request access over the channel. By dynamically determining the data rate based on channel conditions, overall access delays for mobile stations using packet data services and making many access attempts may be reduced.

  • Patent number: 6771961
Abstract: A communication device locates a wireless service provider in a multi-service provider environment using a frequency band search schedule. The frequency band search schedule has a first or home band and a several other frequency bands in a predetermined order. The order of the frequency bands may be programmed by the user or by a home service provider over the air. The communication device searches for an acceptable service provider by examining the home band and then the other bands listed in the frequency band search schedule. The bands are examined in the order specified by the frequency band search schedule. An acceptable service provider is identified by comparing the identity of a service provider specified by an identifier received from a band being examined with a list of acceptable service providers.

  • Patent number: 6771987
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods for performing uplink scheduling of packet data when using adaptive antennas. In the solution according to the invention the uplink scheduling information is transmitted in an antenna beam towards the mobile for which the scheduling information is intended and by allocating mobile stations with similar position to the same packet data channel. All other data packets are transmitted in an antenna beam towards the mobile station for which the data are intended. By adopting the proposed solution it is possible to efficiently use adaptive antennas in a system carrying e.g. GPRS/EGPRS traffic. The carrier to interference gain introduced by adaptive antennas produces a pronounced increase in system performance.

  • Patent number: 6771935
Abstract: In order to avoid mechanical assembly problems and transmission of undesired electrical currents among circuit cards or boards in a telecommunications switch or similar digital device, a conventional hard-wired midplane bus is replaced by a wireless bus. The wireless bus includes a radio frequency or light wave transceiver on each card. Antennas on respective cards can either be oriented within direct line-of-sight of each other, or can project into a waveguide which directs the transmitted signals past all the other antennas. For example, the waveguide may be a metal enclosure which surrounds all the cards. Alternatively, respective aligned apertures in the cards can define a continuous transmission path. A data rate exceeding 1 megabit per second and a transmission power on the order of 1 milliWatt are preferred, since the bus is intended for use within a single switch housing.

  • Patent number: 6766180
Abstract: A space efficient and cost effective hinge clutch mechanism for facilitating the rotational positioning of a lid member of a portable electronic device relative to the housing the device. The clutch mechanism includes an elongated cam-shaft extending through a plurality of aligned components including a face cam member, a cam follower, and a compression spring and partially through a hollow retaining member. Rotation of the retaining member prevents the cam-shaft from being inadvertently with drawn. The clutch mechanism may be manually or automatically pre-assembled before insertion into the housing. An idler positioned adjacent to the retaining member serves as conduit for wires extending from the rotating lid member and the housing of the portable electronic device. The interaction of the cam and cam follower retains the lid in its fully open or fully closed positions until sufficient rotational force is exerted on the lid to overcome the tangential force of the spring.

  • Patent number: 6751470
Abstract: A function-oriented manufacturing approach in RF front-end architecture for use in a multi-band mobile phone. Electronic components in a front-end module, such as low-noise amplifiers that require the demanding silicon bipolar process, are fabricated separately from those components in an RF-ASIC that require the less demanding, yet more costly, Bi-CMOS process. When the transmission frequency band and the receiving band overlap, separate receiving antenna and transmitting antenna are used, instead of an antenna switch module with a duplexer, connected to separate bandpass filters for band selection. Differential Rx antennas are used so that the whole Rx-chain can be made differential. Furthermore, different impedances for Tx out and Rx in can be realized.
