Abstract: A graphical input and display system having a user interface for selecting object(s) to be operated on by the system includes input devices permitting a user to select and establish image object(s) received from various image input sources. A processor, connected to the system, receives requests for various image element selection operations and also accesses a memory structure. The system memory structure includes a user interaction module, which allows a user to select image elements without pre-selecting an element selection mode, as well as data memory.

Abstract: A map display method, a map display device and a map display system which improve visibility by changing its display mode when a map is to be displayed on the screen. A predetermined map is displayed on the screen, a route is specified on the map displayed on the screen, the area having a predetermined width of this specified route is displayed clearly, and the other area is displayed less clearly.

Abstract: A method is directed to managing data and navigation panes in a windowed environment. The method provides for displaying a plurality of panes within the single window, receiving a user input, displaying at least one pivot point input location in response to the user input, receiving a twist input, and modifiying the plurality of panes in response to the twist input.

Abstract: A treemap generation engine enables a user of a treemap generation application to design a treemap display page by providing inputs that define the format of the treemap display page, as well as inputs that define the data to be represented by the treemap display page. Based on the inputs, the treemap generation application generates treemap display data that can be processed by a browser application to draw a treemap display page on a computer.

Abstract: A method and mechanism for configuring a programmable device are described. The method includes displaying a graphical user interface, which presents a graphical depiction of the programmable device, selecting a functional user module in the graphical user interface, placing the functional user module in the graphical depiction of the programmable device, and automatically generating configuration code to implement the functional user module in the programmable device in accordance with its graphical placement. The functional user module to be implemented can be selected from either a graphically depicted library of functional user modules or a tabular list. Parameter registers and settings options for the user module can be displayed and edited in pop-up windows or drop-down lists.

Abstract: A system, method and computer program product are afforded for providing a transcription graphical user interface. Initially, an utterance icon is displayed for prompting the emission of an utterance via a speaker upon the selection thereof. Further, a transcription field is depicted for allowing entry of a transcription of the utterance utilizing a keyboard. In use, the present transcription graphical user interface is displayed using hypertext markup language (HTML).

Abstract: An information processing device and method, and a recording medium for enabling several users to participate as respective avatars in a virtual space constructed on a network and to have conversations with other users. The data regarding the feeling expressions of an avatar, which correspond to a user's conditions, are managed. Then, the image displays of the avatar are controlled based on the storage of data on the image displays.

Abstract: A computer implemented enterprise resource planning system comprising a recipe database contained within computer readable media and a graphical user interface for navigation, viewing and maintenance of recipes is disclosed. The database links all elements of a recipe. A recipe navigator view displays recipe lists and other recipe information in a tree structure. A recipe summary view displays information on a recipe element indicated in the recipe navigator tree view. A recipe detail view is operable to edit components of a recipe element indicated in the recipe navigator tree view. Namely, the recipe detail view allows the editing of routings and formulas associated with a selected recipe.

Abstract: A method for the easy input and operation of miniature computing devices which allows for a plurality of input functions using only two buttons in a method of contextual navigation. The two buttons provide four different input functions which are continually graphically displayed upon the computing device display such that the user can always discern the action that will occur when one or both buttons are depressed. Different functions occur with the pressing of each one of the buttons yielding two functions whereas pressing both buttons for a short period yields a third function and both buttons for a longer period a fourth function. Additional utility is provided through the use of voice commands that may be communicated and stored in the computing device with associated data which will be displayed upon subsequent communication of the same voice command. A third button facilitates the entering and retrieval of voice command related data.

A determination is made as to which user interface devices are currently available, and a particular user interface device is selected to present the data. Abstract controls for the selected user interface device are provided to the application program, which are then used to present the data to the user using the selected user interface device.

Abstract: Every Chinese character belongs to a small graphic form group which is created with respect to the radical of the character instead of character components. Every small graphic form group is incorporated into higher-level groups, i.e. medium graphic form groups, in turn every medium graphic form group is incorporated into higher-level groups, i.e. large graphic form groups. Input guidance is provided according to this hierarchy concerning graphic form. More specifically, the large groups are presented and one of them is selected by the first keystroke, the medium groups are presented and one of them is selected by the second keystroke, and the small groups are presented and one of them to which the desired character for input belongs is selected by the third keystroke. In this fashion, three keystrokes to a numeric keypad efficiently narrows down the alternative characters for conversion.

The method comprises receiving user instruction regarding information displayed on the interface, wherein the interface is represented in the contextualized interaction environment by a node map, updating the internal node map in accordance with the user instruction and displaying the interface in accordance with the updated internal node map. The node map is arranged to represent the user information in a particular context on the interface.

Abstract: A method for navigating a web page with directional keys is provided where the page is scanned for a next closest element along a predetermined search path in the direction of a selected arrow key. In this regard, the search path can be defined as a tunnel or a cone. If the next closest element is not found, the search path is enlarged by a certain increment and scanning is repeated. This process repeats until a next closest element is found. If a next closest element does not exist in the direction of the selected arrow key, scanning will wrap around the page and continue to the opposite side of the page in the direction of the originally selected arrow key.

Abstract: A file management method prohibits a thumbnail image of an arbitrary file. The method displays files as thumbnail images on a display each of which show contents of the file, and detects a drag and drop operation between a specific thumbnail image and the arbitrary thumbnail image. The thumbnail image subject to the drag and drop operation is prohibited from displaying on the display.

Abstract: A method for engineering management and planning for the design of a communications network in three dimensions (3-D) combines computerized organization, database fusion, and site-specific communication system performance prediction models. The method enables a designer to keep track of communication system performance through the process of pre-bid, design, installation and maintenance of a communication system. Automated selection, placement and configuration of communication component equipment can be performed using desired performance criteria identified at finite locations within the environment along with a finite set of communication component models and suitable locations and configurations in the environment.

Abstract: A system and method for merging scenes in a video sequence and constructing a keyframe to represent the underlying merged video content includes decomposing a video sequence into a series of component scenes, merging component scene pairs until a predetermined number of scene sets remain, extracting a keyframe from each scene set containing a single component scene, and constructing a new keyframe for each scene set containing a plurality of component scenes.

Abstract: In a computer employing a graphical user interface (GUI), a method for displaying controls in command bars, which replace conventional menu bars and toolbars. Command bars employ a unified data structure that allows all types of controls to be included in both menu-like command bars and toolbar-like command bars. Command bars may be customized by dragging controls from a list of available commands or from another command bar. By not restricting the types of controls that can appear in each command bar, controls may be grouped to associate drop down menu controls with pushbutton controls. Menu-like command bars and toolbar-like command bars may be merged in a way that provides an intuitive and advantageous listing of commands. Menu popups may be torn off using a clearly indicated drag handle.

Abstract: In a control and management system for automobiles, a central processor in the system connects traditionally unrelated vehicle subsystems together to realize synergistic functions such as smart driving, automatic parking, etc. A master interface having a display is employed in the system to help a user control and manage the vehicle functions.
