Abstract: A method for modifying a data field is described, illustrated and claimed. The novel system and method allows for quick and efficient modification of all or a portion of a plurality of data fields, while preserving the ability to modify individual areas. An action is associated with a rule for modification of objects in a specific manner. When that action is performed, every object defined by the rule is modified. The method allows for modification of multiple groups in the same manner, and also allows for modification of individual areas.

Abstract: A group of toolbar tools may be configured by direct user manipulation. Groups of tools on a toolbar may be directly expanded or compressed by user manipulation to optimize toolbar configuration. These operations may be accomplished modelessly. Tools or groups of tools may be automatically rearranged based upon usage frequency to optimize toolbar configuration. A toolbar may be made to wrap around to avoid disappearance resultant from window resizing.

Abstract: A industrial equipment can easily change display contents and setting contents. In the industrial equipment, a display setting unit which makes a screen display does not hold data for the screen display. According to an operation instruction from an operator, the display setting unit reads a corresponding display data file, generates screen data based on the display data file, and displays the data. The display contents and the setting contents can be changed by changing a corresponding display data file only.

Abstract: A method and system is provided for allowing a user to selectively display tabular data on a display screen of a mobile device wherein an operating system of the mobile device does not provide a low memory solution to display tabular data. After selecting at least one set of tabular data stored on a remote database to be displayed on the display screen of the mobile device, the tabular data is downloaded to the mobile device. One or more columns of the tabular data are selected to be displayed, and the selected columns of the tabular data are displayed on the limited display screen of the mobile device. A master column can be specified so that it will remain unchanged when the user scrolls the tabular data around.

Abstract: A user interface and method for viewing short messages on a wireless device includes a viewing screen, a processor, a memory device and a message software interface module. The memory device stores electronic messages that have been transmitted or received by the wireless device. The message software interface module is executed by the processor and (a) displays a current electronic message on the viewing screen, (b) filters each of the electronic messages stored in the memory device to identify one or more select messages meeting a pre-set criteria, and (c) displays the one or more select messages on the viewing screen along with the current electronic message.

Abstract: The invention provides a user interface, such as used by an electronic trading hub. The interface includes a representation that describes instances in which a participant has won some units, but less than the number of items initially bid on. The representation of this partial win is displayed on web pages that present information to a user. Another representation shows start and end times for at least some of the markets in which the user is currently participating, and the start and end times for future markets. Color-coding of temporal events may also be included in the graphical representation. A representation of activities occurring in markets owned by a user is generated and displayed. Such representations useful to commercial entities which take positions as both buyers and sellers. Another representation identifies which type of market is referred to such as English auctions, RFBs (request for bids), Dutch auctions and others.

Abstract: In a cell based EUI, existing display container cells nested within a “host” display container cell are automatically shifted and/or downsized, if necessary, to increase available space to facilitate the creation of another display container cell nested within the “host” display container cell, in response to a request to perform the creation. Similar shifting and/or downsizing are performed to facilitate expansion of one of the nested display container cells; and shifting and upsizing are performed to facilitate contraction of one of the nested display container cells. Like kind of shifting and/or downsizing/upsizing are performed on existing display container cell to facilitate creation, expansion or contraction of a display action cell. The hierarchical relationship of the display container and action cells, and the automatic relative resizing of the container and action cells enable user interactions otherwise unavailable under prior art EUI.

Abstract: A video system comprises a screen. Interactive linking is provided based on a representative set of region-based templates. Each template can be associated with said screen. The template comprises a set of active areas (usually non-intersecting), that can be actuated by moving a cursor to those areas, to thereby invoke a process or link. The link can be to a web page or other information source. In addition to template usage for surfing of active screen areas, templates can be used for secure link (process) activation. Each region can be considered as a symbol (“letter”) in the password. By using mouse or similar device user can click (“type”) a sequence of symbols to follow an existing password.

Abstract: A system and method for setting up a user interface of a remote control. The remote control displays a logical group of function keys the activation of which will cause the remote control to transmit a command to a target device and a plurality of indicators representative of devices. A user input functions to select one of the plurality of indicators and the device represented by the selected indicator is assigned as the target device for the logical group of function keys.

Abstract: In order to enable communication in which information is exchanged with friends and acquaintances, and a plurality of messages can be listed as on a bulletin board without being aware of electronic mail functions, an electronic mail transmission/reception system comprises a communication mean to transmit and receive electronic mail; a display mean to display transmitted and received electronic mail on a display screen; a message input mean to input messages to the display screen; a message storage mean to store input messages; and a control mean to cause the above display means to display input messages in a message-board format. The control mean divides the above display screen into a plurality of message display regions, and associates each message with a message display region for display.

Abstract: A method for real time display of maintenance device location in an internal space includes a real time location display. An inspection window includes the real time location display, an observations spreadsheet, and a distance display. If the maintenance device is a video camera, a video screen is also included in the inspection window. The inspection window is displayed on a computer monitor. As a video camera is moved through an internal space, a video signal and distance signal are sent to a computer. Location display software on the computer receives the distance signal and provides a real time location display of the distance that the video camera has traveled. The observations spreadsheet enables an operator to enter information concerning a particular distance measurement of interest and which is also shown on the real time location display. The video screen displays real time video camera feed.

Abstract: A search expression is received. A first plurality of values is determined for a corresponding plurality of purchasable items. Each of the first plurality of values is based on a similarity between the search expression and its corresponding one of the purchasable items. A second plurality of values is determined for a corresponding plurality of pairs of the purchasable items. Each of the second plurality of values is based on a similarity between two purchasable items in a corresponding one of the pairs. A corresponding optimum path between the search expression and each of a subset of the purchasable items is determined based on at least one of the first plurality of similarity values and at least one of the second plurality of similarity values.

Abstract: A method and system for generating a user interface for controlling software components through a user control point device. The user interface system provides multiple software components that each can provide a user interface component. Each user interface component provides a user interface for the corresponding software component. A user control point component requests each software component to provide its user interface component. The user control point component then displays an indication of each software component. In response to the selection of a software component, the user control point component requests the user interface component for that software component to display its user interface through the control point device. When a user interacts with that user interface, the user interface component notifies the corresponding software component of the interaction.

Abstract: A setup process for a video system enables various operational settings of the video system to be selected and input to the video system using a personal computer. According to an exemplary embodiment, a video system, comprises an interface operatively coupled to a remote computing device through a data communications network for transmitting and receiving setup data representing at least one user selected operational setting of the video system, and a memory operative to store the received setup data.

Abstract: A system and method for delivering advertising messages to a person accessing a banner web site from a terminal having a display upon which the content of the web site is visually perceived. Initial signals are provided from a web site when the web site is accessed by the user to establish a banner area including banner information that is visually perceivable by the person and plural sub-areas of the banner area. When the cursor is moved to a position on one of the sub-areas the person is automatically provided with respective additional visually perceivable information associated with the sub-area. The additional visually perceivable information remains perceivable to the person as long as the cursor remains on the selected sub-area. The initial signals carry the instructions necessary for the terminal to establish the additional visually perceivable information.

Abstract: A method for organizing visual digital objects and for selecting one or more of such visual digital objects for viewing includes developing a histogram timeline which identifies a number of visual digital objects organized according to predetermined time periods and providing thumbnail representations thereof; selecting a portion of the histogram timeline for viewing such thumbnail representations of visual digital objects corresponding to such selected portion; and determining if one or more of the viewed such thumbnail representations is of interest and then viewing the corresponding digital visual object(s).

Abstract: In an output setup to a device apparatus, when the contents of a plurality of setting items are changed in a lump by using a compound setup consisting of a plurality of setting items, a mismatching of the set contents and a function of the device apparatus is avoided. For this purpose, according to the invention, when the compound setup can be used for a plurality of device apparatuses, the compound setup which is used for the designated device apparatus is selected, and in case of performing the output setup to the designated device apparatus by using the selected compound setup, whether the output can be performed by the contents of each setting item of the compound setup in the device apparatus or not is discriminated in accordance with the function of the device apparatus.
