  • Patent number: 4982474
Abstract: The present invention relates to an arrangement for a door intended, in conjunction with the closing of same, to prevent injury by crushing between the door leaf (4) and the case (2). The arrangement (1) comprises a body component (5) with a plane surface (7) intended to be mounted against the door leaf (4). A longitudinal locking component (6) is pivotally mounted in the body component (5). A spring (9) acts between the aforementioned body and locking components (5, 6), which have devices which define a relative angular position. This means essentially that the direction of longitudinal extension of the locking component (6) forms a normal to the plane surface (7) of the body component (5). The spring (9) forces the components (5, 6) to adopt the aforementioned angular position.

  • Patent number: 4982866
Abstract: A bi-stable hinge unit (10) of elastic material connects two inflexible end portions (12, 13) to take up two stable positions on either side of an intermediate unstable position. The hinge unit (10) comprises two equal elements (14, 15), each of which having two cantilever arms (18, 20), linked to each other by two folding lines (22) acting as a "living" hinge. A triangular rigid plate (16) is arranged between and defined by said folding lines (22). The elements (14, 15) are arranged substantially parallel to each other with a distance therebetween and forming the main hinge line between said end portions (12, 13). By swinging the end portions (12, 13) toward each other along the main hinge line, the four cantilever arms (18, 20) will start to deflect and act as springs and the two triangular plates (16) will rotate through approximately 180.degree. in a plane normal to the elements (14, 15).

  • Patent number: 4979263
Abstract: A swivel bearing for a door-holding rod of a door holder of a motor vehicle. The door-holding rod is swivelable by means of a hinge pin about an axis extending parallel to the hinge axis of the motor vehicle door. The door-holding rod extends through a holder housing arranged on another structural door component. The hinge pin is of solid material and is rigidly but releasably connected to an end of the door-holding rod. The hinge pin has axially extending portions which have a different diameter from the diameter of the middle portion of the hinge pin extending through the door-holding rod. The axial portions having the different diameter are in engagement with a running fit in two bearing openings of the bearing block which are arranged at a distance from each other.

  • Patent number: 4976008
Abstract: A multiple piece thrust bearing assembly for a hinge structure having two hinge members and a clamp member. The hinge members are rotatably joined along their adjacent longitudinally extending edges by intermeshing gear segments which are held together by the clamp member to permit smooth and uniform movement of the hinge members. The multi-piece thrust bearing assembly of the present invention comprises a thrust bearing member and bearing inserts arranged between the thrust bearing member and each of the hinge members for improving durability of the thrust bearing assembly and, thereby, the hinge structure. The thrust bearing member of the bearing assembly is formed from a non-metallic material which extends laterally across the hinge members to inhibit their longitudinal movement relative to each other.

  • Patent number: 4974285
Abstract: A device for assisting in the opening and closing of a pivotally mounted member comprising an elongated housing having a closed end and an open end and an inner annular cylindrical space. An annular cylindrical slide having an inner and an outer end is slidably mounted in the space for longitudinal movement into and out of the housing and a spring centrally mounted between the housing and the slide retains the slide in the housing in a retracted position. Braking devices are provided for retarding movement of the slide in either direction that include nozzle-shaped orifices communicating the inner space with the outside of the housing so that air has to flow into and out of said orifice as the slide moves relative to the housing. Locking devices hold the slide in an extended position, the locking devices being releaseable by pulling the slide out of the housing a short distance, and journal devices are at the outer end of the slide for connecting the slide to a pivotally mounted member.

  • Patent number: 4974289
Abstract: A hinge is made of two elements articulated to one another. One element constitutes at least one fork, supporting the hinge pin, and the other element constitutes at least one hub fitted on the hinge pin supported by the fork. Each bearing of the fork and each hub is connected by a tenon to a leaf of the hinge. The hubs and bearings of the two elements are accommodated in a housing of elastic material such as a metal or other appropriate material, such as a plastic or the like. The housing is rotationally connected with the bearings of each fork, with a longitudinal slot being provided in the housing, arranged parallel to the hinge pin. The slot is designed to allow tenons of both elements of the hinge to pass. The width of the slot is determined, at least by correspondence of the tenon of each hub, as a function of the maximum desired opening angle.

  • Patent number: 4970754
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved synthetic resinous formulation utilized to form a substrate for retention of carpet while securing tack and pre-nail elements in strip form, and with the pre-nails being adapted to secure the substrate in place along the edge surfaces of the floor and with the tack elements being adapted to retain the edge portions of a carpet in place thereon. The substrate is characterized in that it is formed essentially of a filled polyurethane compound which possesses unusual mechanical properties particularly desirable in the formation of carpet retaining strips. These properties include the flexibility to permit the strip to conform to an irregular floor surface, and furthermore can be readily cut and notched to allow it to be bent to conform to an inside or outside corner. Because of the excellent plastic memory, the carpet retaining tacks are held at a desired angle even when subjected to substantial lateral tension caused by the stretched in-place carpet.

  • Patent number: 4969230
Abstract: A detachable front wheel assembly for a pushcart including a sleeve being engagable onto a front leg of a pushcart. A dovetail slot is formed in the sleeve, and two openings communicate with the dovetail slot. A coupling shaft has a vertical dovetail and a protuberance formed on the vertical dovetail. The coupling shaft is insertable into the sleeve with the vertical dovetail slidably engaged within the dovetail slot of the sleeve. The front leg of the pushcart is insertable through the sleeve and then into the coupling shaft so that the coupling shaft and the front leg can be fixed together. Two guides are formed on the coupling shaft. The protuberance of the coupling shaft is engagable within either opening for determining the relative positions between the coupling shaft and the sleeve. A wheel seat with a front wheel is engagable onto the coupling shaft. An annular notch is formed at an intermediate position of the wheel seat so that the guides are limited and rotatable along the annular notch.

  • Patent number: 4953256
Abstract: A counterbalance mechanism for negating the force of gravity when moving a display cabinet shelf up or down. The mechanism has a torsion spring counterbalance on a shaft extending the width of the shelf and gears at each end of the shaft which engage travelling rack gears attached beneath each end of the shelf. The shelf includes integral guide rails rolling on four bearings attached to the stationary frame of the cabinet. The use of spiral gears compensates for the spring torque variation and provides constant tangential gear force on the shelf regardless of the vertical position of the shelf. Having gears at each side of the moving shelf joined by a common shaft minimizes side-to-side tilting.
