  • Patent number: 4796164
Abstract: A retractable headlamp mounting structure includes a fixed bracket mounted on an automobile frame for supporting a motor, a movable bracket pivotally supported on the fixed bracket for holding a headlamp, and a link having one end connected to the movable bracket and another end connected to the motor, the motor being energizable to cause the movable bracket to be angularly moved through the link between a position at which the headlamp projects out of the automobile hood and a position at which the headlamp is retracted within the hood. The fixed bracket is disposed on the side of a radiator support facing the rear of the automobile to shorten the distance between the radiator support and the front bumper of the automobile.

  • Patent number: 4794504
Abstract: This invention relates to a reflector for an automobile headlight comprising a reflecting quadric having substantially the surface of a paraboloid of revolution intersected by upper and lower truncation planes, an electric lamp filament being situated substantially at the focus of said quadric to provide full beam lighting by reflection on said quadric of the luminous beams emitted by said filament and traversed by an optical glass situated in front of said quadric. The reflector according to this invention is characterized by the fact that at least the lower truncation plane of the reflector is equipped, on its internal surface illuminated by the full beam filament of the electric lamp, with a plurality of reflecting spherical elements spaced in a concentric arrangement comparable with Fresnel echelons with respect to their common axis passing through the focus of the useful reflecting conic of the reflector, this focus being also their common center.

  • Patent number: 4790538
Abstract: A golf putting practice range apparatus includes a shooting area, a putting surface and a golf ball target area having a target hole at the down-range end of the putting surface. The golfer stands on the shooting area and hits a golf ball over the putting surface in an attempt to sink the golf ball into the target hole. The target hole is adapted to be selectively moved to present different target locations. Further, the putting surface is adapted to provide for selectively changing its contour. The shooting area is adapted to change its inclination with respect to the horizontal and the putting surface. The golf ball target area is also adapted to change its inclination with respect to the horizontal and the putting surface. Thus, the number of combinations and permutations of the inclination of the shootting area, contour of the putting surface, inclination of the target area, and position of the target hole provides for virtually an infinite number of golf putting conditions which can be practices.

  • Patent number: 4790744
Abstract: This invention relates to a burner with low emission of polluting gases, comprising, in a conduit, an injector of fluid fuel which creates in the conduit, supplied with combustion-supporting air heated in an exchanger, a fuel/air mixture. The latter burns, creating a flame which clings to a stabilizer constituted for example by a hollow piece, of V-section, obturating a central part of the cross-section of the conduit. Downstream of this stabilizer there is placed an obstacle causing a local reduction follwed by a sudden increase in the cross-section of the conduit in order to promote oxidation of the carbon monoxide.

  • Patent number: 4787364
Abstract: A frying oven is provided for cooking primarily meats under induced humidity conditions in a manner minimizing flame charring of the food. The frying oven includes an open-top body which supports an inclined grill rack spaced over a plurality of gas burners. The grill rack acts to collect grease falling from the food and thus prevent grease contact with the burners during the cooking process. The grill rack also channels the grease to a collection trough which, in turn, channels the grease to an exteriorly located grease collection pan. When cooking, a cover is placed over the body to define a substantially enclosed cooking chamber, and steam is introduced into the chamber to provide a humid cooking environment.

  • Patent number: 4784600
Abstract: In a low NO.sub.x stage combustor, the hot fuel rich combustion gases exit the primary combustion chamber through a constriction including a throat portion and pass into a secondary combustion chamber wherein burning is completed by injection of secondary air such as the exhaust from a turbine. Swirl is imparted to the primary gas stream in the primary combustion chamber so as to cause the primary gas stream to fill the entire primary combustion chamber and for increasing the residence time within the primary chamber for reducing fuel NO.sub.x emissions. Swirl suppression means are employed in the throat of the flow constrictor, between the primary and secondary combustion chambers, for suppressing swirl in the outermost regions of the primary gas stream so as to reduce turbulent mixing with the injected, secondary air thereby reducing the peak flame temperature in the secondary combustion chamber and for reducing thermal NO.sub.x emissions.

  • Patent number: 4784088
Abstract: A drive device for coolant pumps having a pump shaft, a boss having a bore in which the pump shaft is rotatably disposed and a driven gear made from synthetic resin to transmit the rotational power from the crankshaft to the impeller to move the coolant into circulation through the coolant jacket for engine cooling, is disclosed which comprises a pin, fixedly implanted in radial pattern in the circumference of the pump shaft, a couple of radially extending grooves outwardly from the center of the driven gear bore in that side of the driven gear facing the impeller to receive therein fittingly the pin, respectively, and a washer mounted about the pump shaft between the front end face of the bore and the pin so as to prevent the pump shaft from falling off from its bore. When the driven gear is driven by the crankshaft, the pin closely fitted in the grooves transmits the torque to the pump shaft, without any slip.

  • Patent number: 4780077
Abstract: A flame retention head assembly for use in a fuel burner having a fuel nozzle mounted coaxially within an air pipe. This assembly comprises a continuously contoured, outwardly diverging flame retention head mounted concentrically within the air pipe in front of the fuel nozzle. This head successively defines, starting from its inlet end: an air-and-fuel mixture chamber; a first expansion chamber; a throttle and a second expansion chamber. A spinner plate is mounted transversely across the inlet end of the head. This plate comprises a central ring provided with a central hole having a diameter substantially identical to the one of the fuel nozzle, and a plurality of blades regularly distributed around the ring to cause air to enter and swirl into the mixture chamber. A round-shaped deflector is also mounted concentrically transversally within the retention head, to cause the air and fuel entering the head through its inlet end to stay longer within the first or second expansion chamber.

  • Patent number: 4776392
Abstract: Sacrificial rods have been used in connection with shell and tube type heat exchangers to prevent corrosion of the cooling cores. These rods however have been employed with metallic heat exchanger components. The subject heat exchanger uses electrical non-conducting or plastic end covers which will not conduct a current flow. The end covers are provided with an electrical conducting metal sleeve, a metallic insert and an electrical conducting member which is connected in an electrical conducting relationship to the insert and at least one of the metallic sleeves. Thus, a grounded circuit is provided for the sacrificial rod. The reaction of the electrolyte and the rod prevents electrolytic damage to the core.

  • Patent number: 4775365
Abstract: An improved lipectomy device, or cannula, is disclosed having inner and outer tubes. The outer tube has an elongated aspiration aperture, and the inner tube has a spiral slot. A mechanism inside the handle of the device causes the inner tube to rotate, creating a traveling hole effect along the aspiration aperture. This obviates the necessity of the surgeon repeatedly pushing the cannula in and out. A valve system is also disclosed which allows the surgeon to maintain negative pressure in the vacuum line leading to the cannula while still allowing the cannula itself to be vented to ambient pressures.
