  • Patent number: 5645412
Abstract: A burner provided for low NOx combustion of fuel with preheated combustion air in a combustion chamber of an industrial furnace and or a steam boiler has a plurality of fuel jets and at least a single air jet arranged to discharge the fuel and the preheated combustion air. The fuel jets and the air jet diverge from one another, provide dilution of fuel with combustion products, and generate multiple precombustion, combustion and post combustion reaction zones in the furnace. Thus, the burner provides the necessary process conditions and reaction zones required for minimizing the formation of prompt and thermal NOx in the precombustion and combustion reaction zones and for optimizing the decomposition of the formed NOx in the postcombustion reaction zones.

  • Patent number: 5641284
Abstract: An ultra high intensity flash cartridge is provided for light guns. The ultra high intensity of the flash is obtained by sealing fast burning filaments of magnesium inside a glass bulb containing pure oxygen gas under pressure. The flash is triggered by an electric current. The intensity is boosted by designing the rear surface of the bulb with a paraboloidal shape and coating it with a reflective surface so that all the light is projected and concentrated in the forward direction without requiring any external reflector. Guide flanges are built into the bulb to maintain proper orientation when loaded into a light gun. The cartridge is capable of generating a light flash several orders of magnitude brighter than the noon-day sun for temporarily blinding an assailant at a distance.

  • Patent number: 5640950
Abstract: A cradle and concentrator dish for solar powered high pressure steam generation is described. The cradle permits the dish to rotate around the declination axis to follow the sun through its seasonal motions. The cradle with the dish rotates around the polar axis to follow the sun through its daily motions. The cradle is formed from two tetrahedra. Both axes of rotation lie behind the reflective surface of the dish. The dish has declination axis bearings mounted well away from its rear surface on a separate structure designed to connect the dish to the bearings. The cradle and dish combination allow tubes carrying fluid to and from a receiver mounted over the dish to accommodate the rotation of the cradle and dish by elastic torsion of the tubes.

  • Patent number: 5640946
Abstract: Atmospheric convection type steamer apparatus includes at least one oven chamber and a discrete atmospheric steam generator operative to provide steam to the even chamber. A quiescent low fire power input to the steam generator maintains water in the steam generator at its boiling temperature during a non-cooking mode and provides a continuous steam flow into the oven chamber to maintain the chamber in a ready condition for substantially instantaneous steam heating when a cooking or high fire mode is initiated. In a stacked double oven embodiment, each oven chamber has a discrete atmospheric steam generator maintained at a quiescent low fire power input sufficient to maintain the water at its boiling temperature and effect a continuous ready condition within the corresponding oven chambers. Steam lines directly connect the oven chambers to their corresponding steam generators and enable introduction of cleaning and deliming agents directly into the steam generators from within the oven chambers.

  • Patent number: 5632614
Abstract: A gas fired appliance measures infrared emissions from a metal object heated in a combustion chamber to evaluate combustion. Associated circuitry uses the evaluation to control operational parameters of the appliance, including fuel and air fed to the appliance. A second metal object, prior to fuel ignition, is electrically heated to emit infrared radiation. Infrared emissions from the second metal object, indicative of the temperature thereof, are monitored to assure an ignition temperature to ignite a combustible air and fuel mixture. A fan directs a stream of ambient air upon the second metal object to cool the same and reduce the infrared emanating therefrom. The reduction in infrared from the second metal object is monitored to verify proper fan operation.
