  • Patent number: 4214325
Abstract: A collapsable frame for children's furniture, of the type which is formed of a rectangular enclosure with four independent side members. The side members are fixed together but detachable from each other and a base. In application to a playpen, the base is made up of two co-planar sections which on their two opposing edges have tongues on each in the continuous plane for support and abutt against their respective lower side beams of the two opposite side members. The lower side beams of the other two side members carry the support of the corresponding edges of the base panels, which edges abutt against the bars of the side members, thus providing rigidity of the entire frame.

  • Patent number: 4212090
Abstract: An ottoman convertible having a base, lower cushion and upper cushion. As an ottoman, the lower and upper cushions are stacked on top of the base. When the unit is assembled as a bed, the upper cushion is placed directly on the base while the lower cushion rests on the floor beside the stacked base and upper cushion. In this arrangement, the top surfaces of the upper and lower cushion are coplanar. A bolster may also be provided which may serve as a back rest on the ottoman to convert it to a chair, and which may also be placed on the floor in alignment with the base and upper cushion and with the lower cushion to form an inclined head rest for the bed.

  • Patent number: 4208748
Abstract: A fluid-containing mattress for reducing rapid fluid motion in the mattress is provided in one direction while permitting fluid flow in the opposite direction. The mattress comprises upper and lower sheets connected together in superposed relation. A number of thin, elongated members or strips are internally attached to the upper and lower sheets within the mattress. A strip attached to the upper sheet and a strip attached to the lower sheet are intermittently joined together at their longitudinal edge portions to form a one-way strip valve. A plurality of these strip valves are formed within the mattress to selectively direct fluid motion. Passages are also provided to bypass these strip valves so that the fluid eventually returns to all segments of the mattress and a uniform displacement of fluid is maintained in the mattress.

  • Patent number: 4207633
Abstract: An inflatable body support to facilitate bedpan use or treatment of pelvic or anal areas of a person confined to a hospital bed or a wheelchair, comprising a generally U-shaped inflatable hip-support cushion defining a space within the "U" thereof for receiving a bedpan or sanitary absorbent material when the hip-supporting cushion is inflated, and a separately inflatable, flexibly attached back support cushion. A flexible folding connection between the hip-support cushion and the back support cushion allows the body support of the invention to be used by persons in wheelchairs or in beds having tiltable or raised portions. A waterproof flexible sheet is attached to and extends under the hip-support cushion and prevents spilled matter from soiling bedding. Detachable flexible tubes interconnect the inflatable cushions, and an uninterrupted seam in the flexible connection between the cushions provides durability and complete separability of inflation between the cushions when desired.

  • Patent number: 4204287
Abstract: A sofa bed convertible from a sofa to a bed having a self-supporting stationary section, a first movable section slidably attached to the stationary section, and a second movable section slidably attached to the first movable section. Independently supported spaced arms are removably attached to the sides of the stationary section to serve as arm supports for persons seated on the sofa bed, but not as structural supports for the stationary section. A hollow furniture-type back is removably connected between the arms. A hinged mattress overlies the stationary and movable sections when the sofa bed is being utilized as a bed. The rearmost portion of the mattress may be doubled over so that the resulting double-thickness section may slide rearwardly and upwardly into the hollow back for storage, with the forward part of the mattress forming a resilient seating surface when the sofa bed is being utilized as a sofa.

  • Patent number: 4202064
Abstract: A coordinate-type hoist device for lifting a handicapped person and allowing the person to move throughout a room. The device consists of two fixed rails disposed parallel to each other and presumably near the ceiling of the room. Two transverse rails ride along the fixed rails, and a "crab" rides along the two parallel transverse rails. The crab contains a motor arrangement for raising and lowering at least two hoisting straps. By using the apparatus, a handicapped person can sit or lie in a device to which the hoisting straps can be attached. Thereafter the crab motor can raise the hoisting straps to lift the patient, who can then move about the room by moving the crab along the transverse rails, and/or moving the transverse rails along the fixed rails. Alternatively, these crab and rail mvoements can be motor controlled. Limit switches are provided to prevent jamming and overloads, and a low voltage control system is utilized of safety purposes.

  • Patent number: 4200941
Abstract: This pull out sofa bed is an improvement of the sofa bed disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 3,984,883, granted Oct. 12, 1976. The change over the disclosure in said patent involves essentially several links different in figuration, and addition of a rivet. Primarily the change reduces the cost of manufacturing the bed with less material to accomplish the resulting operation. Also the spring actuated mechanism to retain the present bed in fully folded condition, was modified and allows for better closure of the bed.
