Abstract: A method for controlling the growth of undesired weeds is disclosed. The method includes applying a herbicidally effect amount of a herbicidal composition which contains as an essential active ingredient a compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein X is a hydroxyl group or a hydroxylamino group, R is a hydrogen atom, an inorganic counter cation, an an organic counter cation or an ester residue, and n is an integar of 1 to 3, and an inert carrier or diluent, to the area where the weeds grow or will grow.
Abstract: One or more plant growth stimulating compounds are obtained from plants by treating the plants with 1-triacontanol and extracting the treated plants with a suitable sufficiently polar liquid extractant.
Abstract: Cyclohexane-1,3-dione derivatives of the formula ##STR1## where R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 have the meanings given in the description, are used for controlling undesirable plant growth.
Abstract: The disclosure herein relates to a group of N-hydrocarbyloxymethyl-2-haloacetanilide compounds, herbicidal compositions containing said compounds as the active ingredient and herbicidal method of use in various crops, particularly, corn and soybeans and other crops including cotton, peanuts, rape and bush beans. The herbicides herein are particularly effective against hard-to-kill perennial weeds such as quackgrass and nutsedges and are also effective against annual weeds.
Abstract: A biological method for either controlling or eliminating yellow nutsedge in agricultural fields is disclosed. An agricultural field which contains yellow nutsedge is inoculated with a sufficient amount of an effective strain of rust fungus Puccinia canaliculata and a carrier to an epidemic. As a result of reducing competition from the yellow nutsedge and inhibiting reproduction, the yellow nutsedge is either controlled or eliminated. Best results occur when the agricultural field is inoculated in the spring of the year. Application methods include: spraying, granular, irrigation, wind-carried, or air-dropped.

Abstract: The new synergistic active compound combinations consisting of (1) a photosynthesis-inhibiting active compound (herbicide) and (2) a pyridinecarboxamide of the general formula (synergistic agent) ##STR1## in which R represents alkyl, halogen, nitro, cyano, alkoxy, optionally substituted phenyl or optionally substituted benzyloxy, and the index n represents the numbers 0, 1, 2 or 3, have a particularly high herbicidal activity. Abstract: Nitrogen containing fertilizers are combined with a plant growth regulator, of the type which retards gibberellin synthesis in plants, in a ratio of nitrogen to plant growth regulator of at least 40 to one. The resulting combination fertilizer composition, when applied to vegetation at the rate of 0.006 to 0.6 pounds per acre of plant growth regulator, delivers nutrients to plants in a fashion that more closely approximates their needs than any previously known plant nutrient compositions. Preferred plant growth regulators which operate by retarding gibberellin synthesis are paclobutrazol and flurprimidol which may be used as the only plant growth regulator in the combination fertilizer composition or together with a very small amount of a second plant growth regulator, such as mefluidide.
