  • Patent number: 11725146
Abstract: Embodiments of methods for improving mesophase pitch for carbon fiber production using supercritical carbon dioxide are described. The methods improve the relative amount and quality of mesophase pitch in feedstocks, such as coal tar, already having at least some mesophase pitch. One particular method includes performing a sCO2/toluene extraction on the coal tar to obtain a toluene insoluble fraction of the coal tar; mixing the toluene insoluble fraction with sCO2 to obtain a sCO2/toluene insoluble fraction mixture; and extruding the sCO2/toluene insoluble fraction mixture, thereby separating the sCO2 from the toluene insoluble fraction to obtain fibers of mesophase pitch.

  • Patent number: 11667870
Abstract: This disclosure provides a triglyceride oil possessing an extremely low cloud point and low viscosity concomitant with a higher than anticipated saturated fatty acid content, very low polyunsaturated fatty acid content, and low iodine value. While many naturally occurring triglyceride oils possess one or more of these properties, natural triglyceride oils lack one or more of these attributes, thus making them less than ideal in industrial applications, such as lubricants, fuels, or dielectric fluids. The combination of attributes possessed by a triglyceride oil described herein, achieved without the addition of any additives, is unique compared with natural counterparts and as such, can find wide applications in the aforementioned fields.

  • Patent number: 11661561
Abstract: A cardboard structure is foldable to form a consumable chimney. The cardboard structure comprises four side wall panels that are connected to each adjacent side wall panel by a longitudinal fold line. The cardboard structure further comprises four floor panels that are each connected to the one of the side wall panels by a lateral fold line. Two locking floor panels secure the floor panels in place to form a floor extending inward from the side wall panels and form a central opening in the floor. The cardboard structure may be formed into an assembled chimney by a few simple folding operations. The cardboard chimney then supports the burning of an accelerant, such as newsprint, which then ignites a solid fuel source, such as charcoal, that is received in the chimney.
