    Abstract: This disclosure presents a method and apparatus for mitigating interference arising from Device-to-Device, D2D, communications, in cases where the frequency band used for D2D transmissions is adjacent to an active cellular carrier or other frequency band carrying critical communications. Among the several mitigation techniques disclosed herein, a wireless device may reduce possible out-of-band interference arising from its D2D transmissions by adjusting transmit power and/or time/frequency resource allocations when it is determined that there is an interference risk. Such mitigations provide improved performance for the D2D transmissions and for the communications in the critical frequency band.

In one method, a clear channel assessment (CCA) may be performed at a base station to determine availability of an unlicensed spectrum. A first waveform may be transmitted to a set of user equipments (UEs) over the unlicensed spectrum when available. The first waveform may indicate a first time period and a second time period during which the base station has channel access over the unlicensed spectrum. A second waveform may be received from one or more UEs responsive to the first waveform. Each second waveform may be received over the unlicensed spectrum during the first time period and may indicate that the respective UE has channel access over the unlicensed spectrum to receive data from the base station during the second time period.

The UE-specific aperiodic SRS subframe includes a single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) symbol reserved for an aperiodic SRS. The aperiodic SRS is transmitted in the reserved SC-FDMA symbol when triggered by a base station. The uplink data is not mapped to the SC-FDMA symbol reserved for the aperiodic SRS regardless of whether the aperiodic SRS is transmitted in the reserved SC-FDMA symbol or not. The mapped uplink data is transmitted to the base station via the UE-specific aperiodic SRS subframe.
