Abstract: There are provided measures for detection and inhibition of multiple consecutive inter-RAT ping-pong handovers (also called handover bounces). Such measures exemplarily include detecting multiple consecutive ping-pong handovers of a communication endpoint between two radio access technologies, wherein a ping-pong handover includes a handover from one of said two radio access technologies to the other of said two radio access technologies and a handover from the other of said two radio access technologies to the one of said two radio access technologies, and causing immediate inhibition of certain handovers of said communication endpoint.
Abstract: A disclosed service for managing mobile and wireless communication devices (MWCDs) includes enabling a server to generate a standard remote configuration command (RCC) and enabling a transmitter coupled to the server to transmit the RCC wirelessly. The RCC configures a feature on a first MWCD of a first supplier and a second MWCD of a second supplier. The RCC may disable one or more of a set of selected MWCD peripheral devices. For example, the RCC may disable an MWCD camera, an MWCD microphone, and/or an MWCD speaker. In some embodiments, the RCC transitions the MWCD to a restricted state in which the MWCD is unable to record multimedia content including audio and video content. In these embodiments, the RCC may configure one or more of the features on each of a set of MWCDs within a defined geographic region.

Abstract: A system for measuring the quality of a wireless communications network includes a measurement module coupled to a mobile device, such as a cell phone. The mobile device is provisioned for typical use on the wireless communications network. The measurement module receives measurement data from the mobile device over a first interface. The measurement module organizes the measurement data into a second format and transmits that data back to the mobile device over a second interface. The measurement module includes a real-time clock so that the data is transmitted back to the mobile device in order to be joined with other measurement data concurrently gathered by the mobile device.
Abstract: A device may receive, from a mobile device and via a first radio access network, a request for a service. The device may receive a mobile device identifier that identifies the mobile device on a second radio access network. The second radio access network may be a different type of radio access network than the first radio access network. The device may provide the mobile device identifier to an equipment identity register. The device may receive, from the equipment identity register, an authentication indicator that indicates whether to permit or deny access to the service by the mobile device and via the first radio access network. The device may selectively permit or deny the mobile device access to the service, via the first radio access network, based on the authentication indicator.

Abstract: Improved systems for locating and positioning using broadcast frequency modulation signals is provided for previous U.S. Pat. No. 7,990,314. In addition, three or more LPFM local broadcasting stations are used for determination for indoor and/or outdoor 2-D or 3-D locating and positioning system.
Abstract: Systems and methods may provide for obtaining a seed value from a location on a beacon device, using the seed value to initiate generation of a pseudo random number (PRN) tree having time-dependent branches, and sending a beacon signal based on the PRN tree and a timing schedule that corresponds to the time-dependent branches. Additionally, a PRN may be received, via an out-of-band link, at an observation device, wherein the PRN is associated with a particular time period. In one example, the PRN may be used by the observation device to generate a subset of a PRN number tree that corresponds to the particular time period. The observation device may also conduct a proximity determination of whether a detected beacon signal corresponds to one or more time-dependent branches of the subset of the PRN tree.

Abstract: When the operator of a mobile communication system applies one of: “dynamic Tracking Area List” or “smart paging” for more efficient paging, the “real” size of the Tracking Area, i. e., the number of cells over which a S1AP-paging is broadcasted on average, becomes difficult to calculate in real time; A method of determining tracking area size information is therefore proposed comprising: obtaining the average number of paging records per cell, and dividing it by average number of RRC-Connection-Setup, for terminated calls, per cell; the result is proportional to the real TA size; the obtained value is proposed as a new KPI, Key Performance Indicator.
Abstract: The present invention concerns a femtocell device and method at a femtocell device comprising a first interface for communicating to a macrocell and a second interface for communicating to a broadband network, the method comprising the steps of, when communication to the broadband network is inactive, receiving a paging message from the macrocell destined to a mobile device connected to the femtocell device, and notifying the mobile device to redirect to the macrocell.
Abstract: A method of enabling a first wireless information device to access absolute location data in which the first wireless information device does not possess its own absolute location finding system but is instead able to receive, over a wireless network, absolute location data from a second wireless information device that does have its own absolute location finding system. The present invention hence enables wireless information devices to share absolute location data: for example, a mobile telephone with GPS capability can be used as a local “beacon” to broadcast its absolute location to any nearby devices over a personal area wireless network (e.g. a Bluetooth network) so that those nearby devices can use that location data. Hence, a camera with no location finding system of its own could obtain location data from a nearby GPS equipped mobile telephone over a Bluetooth PAN and watermark its images with location data.
Abstract: Described are techniques for determining an emergency event and associating label data with emergency communications to ensure that the emergency communications are provided with a greater quality and priority than non-emergency communications. When a quantity of communications associated with a network exceeds a threshold value, policy data may be generated and provided to network devices. The policy data may be configured to cause the network devices to transit communications associated with label data with high quality and connectivity. Correspondence between communications from the network and stored values indicative of emergency communications may be used to determine emergency communications from other data. Label data may be associated with the determined emergency communications to cause network devices to transit the communications in the manner indicated by the policy data.
