Patent number: 4672545Abstract: Method and apparatus are disclosed for converting seismic data obtained at known points to synthesized seismic traces obtainable at arbitrarily selected points. Two dimensional seismic data are converted to three dimensional data with the aid of a programmed computer to permit generation of arbitrary views of a particular geologic structure as well as a mathematical representation of the structure. In order to provide accurate interpolation from the known data, both apparent and true dip characteristics are obtained for the surveyed structure, and seismic trace data for a desired point are synthesized as a function of the dip of the surveyed structure. The dip characteristics are obtained from partial derivatives of the two dimensional data in specified coordinate directions. A three dimensional surface corresponding to the dip characteristics is obtained by a least squares fitting technique.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1984Date of Patent: June 9, 1987Assignee: Pennzoil CompanyInventors: Jia-Wen Lin, Tom C. Patent number: 4665485Abstract: A method and an apparatus are disclosed for characterizing the unknown state of a physical system having a time varying history, the characterization being made with reference to a known state of like physical systems. A response signature representative of the unknown system state is compared to a standard signature representative of the known system state. The standard signature includes a primary signature comprising a multi-dimensional region within a pre-defined, transformed coordinate system having an inner and outer boundary, and a secondary signature comprising at least one, but preferably two or more isoclines situated within the bounded region. If the response signature lies wholly within the bounded region and does not cross any of the region's isoclines, the system being characterized is deemed to be in the known state.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 1984Date of Patent: May 12, 1987Assignee: Lundy Research Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Joseph R. Patent number: 4658358Abstract: An apparatus for carrying by a diver while under water (and at the surface between dives) provides information useful for enabling the diver to ascend therefrom both expeditiously and safely in order to avoid decompression sickness. A corrosion-resistant ceramic transducer (60) provides an electrical capacitance responsive to the pressure of the water thereon, in an electronic circuit (52), comprising also a resistance (61), for providing a signal (at 53) responsive to the time constant therein and substantially unaffected by normally encountered variations in supply voltage. Electronic data processing means (40-51), responsive to the signal, computes the water pressure, the depth of the transducer (60) in the water, the minimum depth to which the diver can from there ascend safely, the minimum time within which the diver then can ascend safely to the surface of the water, and the elapsed time since the beginning of the dive. Displays (48, 49) provide indications to the diver of the computed values.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1984Date of Patent: April 14, 1987Assignee: Battelle Memorial InstituteInventors: Eugene R. Patent number: 4641242Abstract: A stimulable phosphor is exposed to a radiation passing through an object to have a radiation image stored therein, and then exposed to stimulating rays to read out the radiation image and obtain an electric image signal. The image signal is processed under conditions suitable for the type of image recording and used to reproduce a visible image. The conditions of exposure to the radiation and the image processing conditions are adjusted by a single action of selecting the setting conditions predetermined according to the type of image recording. Also, read-out of an identification code provided on the stimulable phosphor and the exposure of the radiation are started by a single action. Or, the read-out of the identification code is conducted in response to memorizing of information on the object.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 1984Date of Patent: February 3, 1987Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventor: Tsutomu Kimura

Patent number: 4633400Abstract: A computer implemented method for representation and recognition of waveforms uses information derived from several groups of such waveforms of general similarity. Each signal is considered as an additive combination of the common signal of the respective group and a noise term. The common signals of the groups of waveforms are extracted using a set of data-derived orthonormal basis waveforms, and a criterion is developed to evaluate the combination of individual basis waveforms used for the common signal extraction. The estimated common signals then represent a template pattern of the waveform or signal groups that can be used in waveform recognition.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1984Date of Patent: December 30, 1986Assignee: Conoco Inc.Inventor: Chittibabu Chittineni

Patent number: 4631694Abstract: A sine wave synthesizer is employed in an analog signal processing integrated circuit. The circuit includes an integrator driven from a plurality of integration constant capacitors which are sequentially selected by a clocked decoder. Each capacitor is selected by coupling it between the integrator and a switched reference source. The capacitors are selected so that their sequential selection produces a sine wave approximating current in four increments. A first increment of a sine wave is produced according to an ascending selection of integration constant capacitors. Thereafter, the capacitors are selected in reverse in a descending manner to produce a second increment of the sine wave. The switched capacitor phasing circuit is then operated to invert the sine wave signal to produce the third and fourth increments having a negative instead of a positive excursion. The frequency of the sine wave is controlled by the decoder clock input.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1984Date of Patent: December 23, 1986Assignee: National Semiconductor CorporationInventor: Peter S.
