  • Patent number: 4004958
Abstract: A method and apparatus for fabricating a laminated band of vulcanizable elastomeric material to be shaped and molded into a pneumatic tire. After the tire carcass is formed a specially prepared extruded strip of tread material of predetermined length is applied and lap spliced at its ends. Prior to its application to the carcass, the strip is longitudinally foreshortened or shrunk to form a slightly thickened portion midway between its ends. After the tire is vulcanized the thickened portion is located approximately 180.degree. circumferentially from the zone of the splice to counterbalance the weight at the zone of the lap splice.

  • Patent number: 4003775
Abstract: A method for automatically producing bib aprons from a continuous web of nonwoven fibrous material. The web is unwound from a supply roll, and beads of adhesive are applied adjacent its longitudinal edges as it is advanced along a feed path. The edges are then folded over the adhesive to provide longitudinal reinforcements, and the web is cut in a direction transverse to its direction of movement to form rectangular blanks. As the blanks continue along the feed path, additional beads of adhesive are applied to each blank in spaced areas adjacent a pair of opposed corners. To produce the neck loop and tie elements for the apron, a single narrow strip of nonwoven fibrous material is positioned over the blank in a direction transverse to its direction of movement, and the center of this strip is pulled in the direction of movement such that the strip forms both the neck loop and the tie elements. The opposed corners of the blank are folded over the adhesive areas to hold the strip in place.

  • Patent number: 4002519
Abstract: Successive pouches are formed from a web of plastic film by advancing the web through a folding station and folding the web along a longitudinal fold line to form a two-ply portion and a single ply portion adjacent thereto. At a sealing station, confronting surfaces of the two-ply folded portion of the web are sealed together along longitudinally spaced apart seal areas extending transversely across the two-ply portion to define a series of successive pouches interconnected by the seal areas. At a flap forming station predetermined waste areas are severed and removed from the single ply portion of the web to form the same into a series of successive flaps extending alongside each of the pouches and adapted for being folded over the pouches to close the same.

  • Patent number: 3997384
Abstract: The color-coded index tab is produced automatically by passing a tape through a label applying machine which is programmed by a computer to apply color-coded labels at precise locations of the tape. The tape is afterwards severed to produce the individual index tab for subsequent application to a file holder. The index tabs can be folded or not about the longitudinal center line so that the block of color on each label can be exposed around the edge of the file holder or on a flat edge surface of the file holder for viewing purposes. The individual index tabs and labels can be sized to present any number of different color coded blocks.

  • Patent number: 3953266
Abstract: A method of fabricating a semiconductor composite comprises providing a semiconductor substrate having a platinum layer, masking the platinum layer with a chromium mask layer, applying a patterned photoresist layer over the chromium mask layer, etching away portions of the chromium mask layer in accordance with the pattern of the photoresist layer to accordingly pattern the chromium mask layer, then etching away portions of the platinum layer in accordance with the etched chromium layer, and finally removing the remaining portions of the chromium mask layer. The chromium layer is interposed between the platinum and photoresist layers due to its excellent adhesive compatibility with both the platinum and the photoresist layers and the presence of the chromium layer effectively prevents the etching solution for the platinum from penetrating between the platinum and photoresist layers.
