    Abstract: In one embodiment, a file includes data that is divided into a plurality of sections, and each section may include metadata that includes the revision history for that section. A specific section of the file may be selected and its revision history queried. In response to such a query, the revision history for the selected section is extracted from the section metadata and may be displayed. If a portion of a section has been copied from a source section and pasted into a target section, the section metadata for the target section may be updated to include information about the source section. For each change to the section data, the section metadata may also include a version number, a revision date and time, a revision author and the actual insertion, deletion or other change to the section data.

    Abstract: A method and system for storage of unstructured data in external data storage uses low-cost, minimally-functional external data stores (EDS) to store immutable, unstructured content. An external storage layer (ESL) interposed between an e-discovery management application (EMA), and the EDS constitutes an intermediary allowing access to external storage from the EMA and adding functionality unavailable on EDSs, offsetting the functional sacrifice incurred by using the EDS and preserving cost advantage. Caching content on the ESL during propagation to the EDS eliminates latency during file propagation. The ESL creates metadata and maintains an index of the data, allowing the data owner to search and retrieve from the EDS. The ESL compresses, decompresses, encrypts and decrypts data. An ESL vendor can service a number of clients on a fee or subscription basis. The ESL can distribute client data across EDSs and mirror data stored on a first ESL on another ESL.

N data samples are partitioned into at least B memory banks, where B is equal to a largest radix of the R radix stages. Each input data sample to each radix-r(i) butterfly comes from r(i) different memory banks and the output data samples are written to the same memory locations in the r(i) memory banks. Determining from which memory bank the input data samples and output data samples of the butterflies are stored is done based on the radix size and sequential position of the radix stage. Determining the address of the input data samples and the output data samples within each memory bank is based on the radix size and sequential position of the radix stage.

For example, in some embodiments of the invention, the user may be permitted to select one or more results and “drag” the results, using the GUI, to another element of the GUI to make a change to the data, or may perform any other graphical operation with the results.

    Abstract: Instead of adding resources into a folder by specifying a list of identifiers, client applications add resources to a folder by specifying a search query that matches the resources to be added. The virtual folder is, therefore, a collection of search queries rather than a collection of resource identifiers. This allows the data archive systems to easily store folder information in a database. A client application can then search by specifying the folder as its search criteria to list all content associated with the folder. Additionally, to ensure that the list of results associated with a particular query does not change after the query is added into a folder, the data archive system also captures generation information associated with the particular query (i.e., the iteration of the search indexes at the time the query is received) and stores the generation information with the query as part of the folder.

    Abstract: The present invention provides techniques for managing ownership (i.e., control) of one or more memory buffer (mbuf) data structures within a network subsystem and a storage subsystem of a storage operating system implemented in a storage system. When the storage system receives data to be written to a storage medium, the network subsystem stores the received data in one or more variable-length chains of mbufs. Unlike conventional approaches, the received data is not subsequently copied out of the mbufs into fixed-sized data buffers for use by the storage subsystem. Instead, the storage subsystem can directly manipulate the received data stored in the mbufs. By eliminating the steps of copying data out of the mbufs and into fixed-sized data buffers, the invention reduces the amount of time and system resources consumed by the storage system when writing blocks of received data to disk storage.
