Abstract: A method of producing a lignin by-product of the black liquor residue of a kraft pulping process having improved water-solubility in amine salt form wherein the lignin precipitate of the black liquor residue is water-wash purified and maintained at moderately acid pH of no lower than about 5. The lignin may then be combined in aqueous slurry with an organic amine, such as monoethanolamine, to provide a highly stable aqueous solution of the amine salt of the lignin. The water-soluble lignin salt is particularly suited for use as an additive in water-based pigment printing compositions. The lignin amine salt functions as a grinding agent for the pigment in formulating and as a binder for the pigment in the printing process.

C.) of 5.0 to 15.0 cSt (10.sup.-2 cm.sup.2 /sec). This fluid has a high traction coefficient and a good oxidation stability.

Abstract: In a process for producing a composite TiO.sub.2 pigment which contains a white inert extender, the neutralization is simplified and the need for washing processes is eliminated in that a metatitanic acid suspension, which contains free and combined sulfuric acid and has been purified for the removal of chromophoric elements, is neutralized by an addition of calcium oxide and/or barium oxide in quantities which are stoichiometric with respect to total sulfate, the calcium sulfate and/or barium sulfate is precipitated in an intimate mixture with the metatitanic acid, and the coprecipitate is separated and dried. The precipitated calcium sulfate and/or barium sulfate is contained in the coprecipitate in an amount from 1 to 25% by weight.
Abstract: Polyamines based on derivatives of 1,3-bissubstituted 2-propanol containing a multiplicity of amino groups, the latter containing at least one primary amino group and additionally further N-basic groupings, prepared by reacting 1,2,3-trisubstituted propane compounds with bis(primary amines or with monoamines and bis(primary amines). The polyamines according to the invention are clear to yellowish or yellow products which, at room temperature, form viscous to highly viscous liquids or may be paste-like or wax-like. They may be used, inter alia, advantageously as starting products for the preparation of thermosetting, in particular water-dispersible and cataphoretically depositable binders based on aminourethanes for coating solid substrates, in particular metals.
